We acquired the property in 2015, out-competing a logger who wanted to cut the grove for timber. We want the redwood grove to show the value of trees preserved in their natural state. You are helping us do that by staying in our woods!Halfway back in a 100-year-old grove of redwood trees stands the Redwood Cathedral Treehouse inside a “cathedral tree”– a circle of trees sprouted from an old-growth stump. Built using treehouse attachment bolts, this two-story platform is accessed via a redwood and madrone spiral staircase leading to the first deck. Constructed from salvaged, old-growth redwood from the local mill, it blends in perfectly with the surrounding forest. There you'll find a redwood slab table under a chandelier. A steel spiral staircase takes you to the upper deck, 22’ above the forest floor. Nestled among the branches, this large space features two cantilevered wings supported by cables. The first has a 12’ bar table atop decoratively etched tempered glass panels from which to overlook the grove, The other wing features an 8’ geodesic dome for reclining and relaxing. The dome has a storage compartment, two full-length pads and two opening windows. Bring your sleeping bags. You’ll find a swing for your inner child, a dumbwaiter for easy movement of belongings and a composting toilet and simple sink under the lower deck. The tree house provides space for two guests. For parties over 2 guests, an additional tent platform and picnic table can be added on for extra sleeping space. Because our neighbors have a rooster and other farm animals, you may hear crowing in the early hours. Inside the dome you will find disposable earplugs if this proves to be a problem for you. We are located on 1.25 acres approximately six miles north of Crescent City, California, halfway between Portland, Oregon and San Francisco, California—a comfortable day's drive (350 miles) from each city. We are three miles from the old growth redwoods at Jedidiah Smith State Park, part of the Redwoods National Park jointly managed by the state and federal governments. The tallest coastal redwoods in the world are within 10 miles of us. Two miles separate us from the ocean as the crow flies, about four miles by road. The nearest beach is Tolowa Dunes State Park where you are likely to see elk herds and porcupines. The beach is lightly used and on a weekday morning you can walk for miles north or south without seeing another person, though you are likely to see seals staring at you from the surf.

The treehouse was lovely and the pictures are what to expect. The property is well kept and welcoming. The grove is in the middle of a suburban neighborhood in north crescent city. Unfortunately, it wasn't as secluded as I had imagined. There are several neighbors with farm animals, a particular barking dog and lots of children. Ear plugs were a must for me to get sleep. The sound of birds in the morning and the presence of banana slugs were pleasant :) Watch your steps!

Redwood Cathedral Treehouse
This is a signature architecture of a redwood treehouse experience! It is like a yurt in a tree. The land is sculpted pretty well for immersion. The rating for the experience is 4.5. Yet, as a business it is a 3. After payment the owner responded about 6 hours later when asked specific questions about the site and with a short response stating read the description. This caused about a four hour delay because we were not sure of what to bring. Was thiss truly glamping or more camping. Definitely camping. There is no electricity. You will need flashlights, lanterns, sleeping bag, blankets, etc. Also the water jugs and sink on site did not look like they had been cleaned in many months. So we did not use the water on site. We used the water we brought. Additionally, the cooking /dining area is architecturally well designed for the tree house experience but note - no electricity- thus you need a propane type of grill and any foods should be kept in an ice chest or other cooling method to remain safe for eating if perishable. The bathroom is compost style. We did not use it. But that area actaully looked the cleanest out of all the areas on site. Thus, if the owners spend a little extra time to clean out the yurt of cobwebs, the jugs of water ans sink to look potable, and ensure the solar lights in the areas are still working and improve response time, the rating as a paying customer would be higher. Redwood Cathedral Treehouse
The tree-dome is truly magical! The property feels like such a special escape and everywhere you look there’s something to notice. So much thought has been put into the space, I felt so lucky to stay here! Going to sleep under the trees was so peaceful and we loved having our morning coffee in the provided chairs on the upper deck. I wish we had more time to spend here, I would definitely visit again!

Honestly what we thought was going to be a fantastic spot to end our roadtrip was the complete opposite. We arrived late and finding the location was easy enough. Pulled up and began setting up. Zero lights guiding the path or near the treehouse. We had our phones and headlamps illuminating the way, not that big of a deal but could be a potential issue for other visitors. Once we got to the top of the treehouse we were greeted by multiple spiders. Bunch of little ones, but one huge, quarter sized brown spider within the treehouse. Listen, I understand it’s outdoors, bugs aren’t the issue but the very little precaution was. There are candles that can be lit to keep certain critters at bay, webbing that can be put up or even a more secure door. The treehouse could definitely have used a cleaning before we arrived. We all forfeited the treehouse because it seemed worn down and uninviting and just camped on the additionally charged wooden platform.

Ted and Emily’s hip camp was perfect . I arrived in the evening and the lights of the cabin were really welcoming . All the amenities were wonderfully from the wood stove to the shower .i had a great night sleep and would have loved to linger there longer than a night .

My only regret was arriving late. The roosters sure enough did start their hollering early but I was prepared for that. I missed out on meeting the resident cat but hope to stay again. Would definitely recommend. I had a great night’s sleep!

Beautiful treehouse. Amazing set up. It was so peaceful being in the woods and I also felt safe being in a neighborhood. It was such an experience being so close to the redwoods. The dome stayed warm at night. I also got to see some banana slugs wish me farewell in the morning. Magical experience.

Redwood Cathedral Treehouse
This was a magical stay. We got there after dark and it was a bit challenging to find at first, but once we did, it was incredible! Banana slugs were EVERYWHERE and the camp felt pretty private despite being close to some houses. In the morning, a wonderful melody of animal sounds helped us greet the day. We will definitely be back in the future!

We loved the treehouse dome!! We spent two nights there. The ground was covered with clover and the cathedral trees were majestic protectors. Even though there were properties close by, we felt we had a lot of privacy. The roosters were loud in the morning, but we loved them! Bring ear plugs if you're a light sleeper. Also recommend bringing flashlights, lamps and phone chargers. Absolutely recommend if you want to disconnect a bit while still having quick access to Crescent City.

Redwood Cathedral Treehouse
The treehouse is in a beautiful redwood forest, and is a fabulous experience to say you slept in a treehouse in the Redwoods. You must supply your own bedding and carry it up some wide wooden steps and then a very narrow, steep metal spiral staircase to the top. There is a small bucket at the bottom on a pulley system to the top, but I found it was too small to fit my sleeping bag, pillow, and blanket. David was a wonderful host and helped me haul my sleeping bag up, so that helped a lot. Just keep in mind that anything bulky is fairly difficult to get up the stairs. Also, the supplied camping mattress was too thin for my preference; I’m on the heavy side and sleep on my side, so that may have been why. It’s very clean and in excellent condition (the camp mattress) but bring more padding if you are one who needs it. The compost toilet/sink area was very clean and pleasant. Overall a great stay!

This was an amazing and unique experience. David is an excellent and gracious host. I arrived late and had trouble finding the exact location in the dark, and David promptly came out to meet me and show me the way. The treehouse is visually impressive and spending a night there is great for the soul. Highly recommend this place!

The directions that David sent were great and even easy to follow in the dark and rain :) The sleeping area was cozy (think tent size) and dry, and the amount of animal and rain sounds made it really feel you had stepped away from it all. Instructions for the bathroom use and local directions were easy to find and waterproof. It was so close to the National Park and Crescent City coastline and lighthouse that we had a really enjoyable stay.

Epic treehouse stay

The tree house was EPIC. So clean and cozy and had everything you needed (drinking water, clean bathroom, even a sleeping pad for your sleeping bags). Loved the little swing, the dining area and the stained glass in the dome. The roosters nearby got us up early to begin our hike 45ins away. Would strongly recommend :)

We loved the treehouse and surrounding area! We stopped through for only one night and the accommodation was great, and David was very helpful. We made good use of the kitchen area and found it fun to eat our breakfast up in the tree.
