We are a family run farm situated in the beautiful Frome valley. The farm has a range of interests from the traditional Jersey milking cows to a community of workshops used by local craftsmen. The cafe serves cream teas from Easter to the end of September and pizzas are sold in evenings during the summer months. Ours is a small family run camp site with the River Frome on one side, next to the medieval buildings of Stowford Farm. The river is suitable for fishing, boating, swimming and paddling. Historic Bradford-on-Avon is only a 5 minute drive and the City of Bath 15 minutes. For those who enjoy more rural pleasures, 200 metres from the campsite Farleigh Hungerford boasts the only river swimming club in the country, and you can become an instant member for a very small fee.

Off the beaten track on top of the Mendips in an area of outstanding natural beauty. A mixture of four acres of wild woodland, orchard and field set on a hillside. Our Yurt is set up in the trees giving you peaceful seclusion and a clear view across the sea to Wales and the mountains of the Brecon Beacons. A huge range of activities are possible or you can lie in the hammock with a good book. We have very friendly dogs and rescue chickens who may come and visit. Wild deer wander past in the early morning mist and the odd buzzard picks an argument with a bunch of crows but nothing much else should disturb you. We moved here after an 18 month search 8 years ago. It was close to everything we wanted and we've spent some time getting a bit closer.

The views across the valley from the front of The Pods are stunning - guests will love a morning coffee or an evening glass of wine sat out on the patio taking in the country air and far-reaching views. Sleeping four people in two bedrooms, The Pods are also the ideal location for families and couples to explore the Fosse Way and the Somerset countryside from. The Roman city of Bath and the seaside towns of Western Super Mare and Burnham on Sea are also only a short drive away. The main pod consists of a double bedroom, small lounge, kitchenette and shower room. The kitchenette has a microwave, portable stove top, toaster, kettle and fridge so guests can still cook up a meal if staying in. Wi-Fi is available in the main pod and included during your stay, plus access to a washing machine, ironing board and iron through a private entrance into the downstairs cloakroom of the farmhouse. The second bedroom - the twin - is located in a separate pod, located approx 15 meters away and separated by a path through the trees. It's the perfect solution for children wanting to escape the parents and feel like they're having their own adventure (or is that parents wanting to escape from the kids!) Please note, as the second bedroom pod is a short walk from the main pod, parents should be confident that their children (and they!) will be happy to sleep separately and will enjoy the seclusion of an independent sleeping area. During the winter months, we have converted the outdoor porch of the main pod into an upgraded, insulated dining area equipped with a table and chairs, comfortably accommodating four guests. This addition provides a weatherproof social space, complete with a fully glazed external door to allow you to fully enjoy the surrounding views. Updated photos arriving in Spring 2024. Off-street parking is provided a few meters away from the pods. Please note that the pods are in the curtilage of the owner's country farmhouse.

Had an amazing time at Alison and Bear’s shepherds hut. Such a beautiful, peaceful location and a very cosy hut. Alison and Bear were very kind and helpful, guiding us to the hut when we arrived and they’d already lit the log burner and hot tub fire.

2 nights at The Yellow Submarine!

My 2 boys (13 and 9) and I stayed 2 nights in the Yellow Submarine and it was great fun! The controls and labels and various flashing lights were hilarious and the hatches and portholes were brilliant, all very authentic. My boys were convinced it had been a real sub once and totally loved the ‘history’ section of the welcome pack. The beds and sofa bed had comfy mattresses and it was good to have a little sink, fridge and hob inside. Really well stocked with sheets and duvets, plates, cutlery and pan and there was a lovely care package including tea coffee cereal boxes and marshmallows for the fire. There was even a heater/cooler so we didn’t get cold at night. Toilets are in the nearby wash block which was kept nice and clean and the showers were great. We didn’t use the BBQ and instead grilled over the top of our fire drum (tip - bring a grill if you have one, or they sell them in the excellently stocked campsite shop). The bunk bed was a bit too small for my tall 9-year old so he slept in the big bed with me and the sofa bed was comfy but narrow for my 13 yr old so 2 nights was about right. Sleeping would’ve been tricky if there’d been another person. The site was excellent and we’d love to come back - maybe to check out the school bus! Cheddar village is in easy walking distance and the site itself has lots of room for playing and football. Loved it!

2 nights at Wydale Farm Tipis

We had the most wonderful few days Glamping at Sam and Matt’s, there’s nothing you need or want that hasn’t already been thought of and provided with care. We had the absolute pleasure of learning all about Matt’s bees (with fashionable bee suits) and kayaking down the river with our pooch Dudley. Honestly couldn’t recommend this place enough, just perfect to get out of the City and enjoy this hidden oasis of calm.

5 nights at Wydale Farm Tipis

We had the best time glamping! The location is absolutely stunning, and we were lucky enough to have perfect weather, which made it even more special. The tipi tent was cosy and beautifully set up with everything we could possibly need for a comfortable stay. We also loved having our own private bathroom and kitchen – so well equipped and such a lovely touch. Sam and Matt were amazing hosts – warm, welcoming, and always happy to help with anything. We borrowed the kayaks, which was such a fun experience, and my dog happily sat between my legs while we paddled around. There’s also the option to rent paddle boards if you fancy mixing it up. On top of that, Matt has a few bee bays, so you can even enjoy a fascinating bee experience while you’re there – such a unique and memorable activity! It was the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation, and we came away feeling refreshed and happy. We honestly couldn’t recommend this place enough and can’t wait to come back again!

This is a lovely place to stay. The railway carriage was very comfortable and very well laid out, packing a lot of functionality into a cozy space. The grounds are beautiful and quiet. It’s just a short drive to several must see places like Bath and Avebury henge.

3 nights at Wydale Farm Tipis

We stayed in one of Sam and Matt’s three tipis which are set in a peaceful location with a river running by and spectacular views of the countryside and local wildlife. The tipis have plenty of room and the bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in. The facilities are excellent, a separate building several steps away from each tipi offers a private kitchen and a spotless bathroom with large shower and fluffy towels. The tipis are set back from the farm and fresh eggs from the free range hens and honey from the bees at the farm were given to us on arrival. They were so good that we bought some to take home with us. Also milk, cider and some delicious homemade cake were a great welcoming after our journey. Sam and Matt are excellent hosts, giving great recommendations on places to eat out and walks with our dog. We had a wonderful few days celebrating my husband’s birthday and later, our wedding anniversary. This place is a hidden gem. It offers a warm welcome, great facilities, is dog friendly and in a beautiful location. You don’t need to wait for a special occasion, this place is a real treat and shouldn’t be missed.

Weekend Trip to Steam and Stars Luxury Glamping

Absolutely magical stay! From the moment we arrived at Steam and Stars, everything was perfect. The hot tub was preheated and ready for us, which was very much needed after the Friday traffic. Nothing was too much trouble for our wonderful hosts, who truly went above and beyond. Our dogs were safe and free to roam, which made the stay even more relaxing. The property was spotless, with incredible attention to detail. We were delighted by the thoughtful extras, like cookies and cake on arrival. The facilities were easy to access and had everything we needed for a comfortable break. The views were stunning — we were lucky enough to see a steam train pass by, adding to the charm! Amazing wildlife all around made it feel like a true retreat. We can’t thank the hosts enough for their hospitality. A fantastic experience that we’ll definitely be recommending! Communication was brilliant throughout!

Weekend Trip to Barley Hill Pod

We have just come back from a wonderful 2 nights at the Barley Hill Pod a peaceful private space in the Somerset countryside. The Pod had everything you need to make it comfortable, including a double bed, proper toilet and shower, fridge with freezer box and under floor heating! The real bonus is the completely private electric hot tub overlooking the stream and fields where we saw Deer and birds and squirrels. Even has a little duck pond opposite to have a wonder round with 4 friendly ducks. You do need to walk across a grass field to get to the Pod but it’s only about 200m from where you park the car and it’s totally worth it for the privacy you get! We just used a trolley to pull our stuff over. I would 100% recommend and we will definitely go back!

Beautiful location, we loved staying in the Shepherds Hut. Loads of thought has been put into the space, lovely individual garden with seating, hammocks, so nice to eat outside in the sunshine & to be able to use the outdoor hot tub after a swim. The spa was fab & swimming in the pond was tonic for the soul. Amanda & Rob were great hosts, & they have definitely achieved what they have set out to do - provide people with an incredible place to slow down, appreciate nature & reset. Thank you

Where to go

Exmoor National Park

In the county’s west and crossing the border into Devon, the Exmoor National Park is an area of hilly open moorland that also encompasses woodlands, valleys, and farmland. The River Exe originates in the area. There are designated glamping sites across the park—including well-equipped glamping tents, tiny houses, and yurts—but to camp outside of these places, you’ll always need landowner permission. Exmoor National Park glamping gives visitors access to hiking and horse riding trails, including rugged and cliffy coastal paths.

Bristol Channel Coast

The northwestern edge of Somerset faces the Bristol Channel, and forms the county’s only coastline. The towns of Weston-super-Mare, Clevedon, Burnham-on-Sea, and Portishead are on this stretch of coast and are convenient starting points for beachside glamping adventures. As well as spending time on the beach, glampers on the Bristol Channel Coast can enjoy hiking and cycling, including the Clevedon Coastal Path to Portishead.

Quantock Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

England’s first AONB, Quantock Hills is a lovely area of heathland, oak woodlands, ancient parklands, and agricultural land in the county’s north. Both Taunton and Bridgwater provide handy bases for glampers who want to hike and go wildlife spotting in the area. Most of the Quantock Hills AONB is privately owned with no wild camping, but there are many good glamping sites at the base of the hills that provide easy foot or bicycle access deeper into the hills without the need of a car.

Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

The Mendip Hills AONB is a range of limestone hills in the county’s northeast, near the cities of Bath and Bristol. Hidden within the hills are deep gorges, rocky outcrops, and the pretty lakes of the Chew Valley. Glampers staying in or around Bath and Bristol can visit on day trips, but there are glamping sites dotted around the AONB. The village of Cheddar—famous for its cheese and the Cheddar Gorge—offers a peaceful, rural alternative to other nearby cities.

Glamping accommodation in Somerset

Choosing your glamping accommodation in Somerset is not an easy task. Do you want to go all-out for luxury and book the family in to a safari lodge with a wood-burning stove, its own kitchen and a hot tub? Or would you prefer something a little closer to classic camping like a bell tent (with the added comfort of a real bed of course)? Do you fancy going it alone in a Somerset shepherd’s hut that’s tucked away on its own? Or would you prefer to be at the heart of the action on a sociable camping and glamping site?

Today’s glamping options provide something for every glamping whim—the difficulty is in choosing which accommodation suits you best. There are fairy-tale style tree houses which are the stuff of dreams for kids (and some adults too), and Mongolian-style yurts to bring out the nomad in you. There are tipis, log cabins, shepherd’s huts, vintage caravans and modern geodesic domes. Some are traditionally styled, some have a vintage theme and others are complete one-offs.

Top things to do while glamping in Somerset

1. Dive underground at Wookey Hole. Join a tour of this famous cave system to discover the underground cavern and lakes. Wookey Hole also has a range of family-friendly attractions included in the ticket price which makes it good value if you’ve got kids.

2. Check out Cheddar Gorge. More subterranean adventures await at Cheddar Gorge—perhaps the more mature option of the two best-known cave experiences. But at Cheddar you can go up as well as down with a three-mile cliff-top walk as well as the chance to go underground in to Gough’s cave.

3. Go to Glastonbury! Festival or not, Glastonbury is well worth a visit. Head up to Glastonbury Tor for the views and to see if you feel the power of this place that’s held spiritual significance for a thousand years. You might also like to pop in to Glastonbury Abbey, the legendary resting place of King Arthur.

4. Explore Exmoor National Park. Head out for a hike, picnic or bike ride in the glorious surroundings of the national park where ponies run wild and heather carpets the ground.

5. Eat cheese! Britain’s most popular cheese is named after the Somerset village of Cheddar—so there can’t be a better place to try it. Tuck in to a Ploughman’s lunch in a local pub for your fix.

6. Drink cider—or perhaps just a juice made from the fruits of Somerset orchards. Somerset is famous for its apple drinks and there are plenty of varieties from cloudy scrumpy to new-breed craft ciders.

7. Head to the seaside. Get the bucket and spade out and head to Weston-super-Mare for traditional fun or get off the main drag and seek out the smaller coves and beaches further west.

8. Get a history fix at The Bishops Palace. Home of the Bishop of Bath and Wells, the medieval Bishop’s Palace is in the heart of historic Wells. It has 14 acres of gardens to explore too.

9. Take a walk on the South West Coast Path. The start of this 630-mile, long-distance footpath is in Somerset’s Minehead. You might not get it all under the belt on your holiday, but there’s no harm in making a start!

10. Go wild at Longleat. Okay, so it’s technically in Wiltshire, but if you’re glamping in Somerset, it’s not too far to go to visit the safari-style drive-through wild animal park in the grounds of the Longleat estate. Just remember to wind the windows up.
