Slader’s Rest sits right at the heart of the Mendips’ best walking and cycling country. Step out the gate and you’re moments from the Mendip Way - the 50-mile trail that runs the length of the Mendips - and onto the Strawberry Line, the traffic-free path that runs all the way to the sea. We also border Slader’s Leigh, a protected nature reserve and wildflower meadow, and sit beside King’s Wood, a National Trust ancient woodland. It’s about as good a base as you’ll find for exploring on foot or by bike - and you’re a 5-minute walk from a shop and 15-minute walk from a pub. This is a small, owner-run site. Each pitch is private and named, set in our own wildflower meadow - not a flat, mown field, but ground with real character: it sits on an old Saxon boundary, with the natural dips and rises that come with it. We’ve found the flat spots and tucked a pitch into each one. One thing worth knowing before you book: our eastern boundary runs alongside a main road, so if you’re looking for a site that’s totally silent, Slader's Rest might not be the best fit. The local area is a popular spot during the day, particularly at weekends and during school holidays - with so many walking and cycling routes converging nearby, there’s usually a steady flow of visitors to the surrounding woods and trails, though it quietens down in the evening. We offer two furnished bell tents - Hawthorn and Apple - each with its own cooking area, plus a tent pitch for those bringing their own kit. Facilities are shared: two composting toilets, a hot shower, and a washing-up area. At weekends, walk over to our self-service coffee hut for a proper barista-style coffee. Pause. Recharge. Explore.

Bell tent · Sleeps 4 · 2 beds

Apple sits in its own private spot in our meadow, named after the old cider apple tree alongside it. It’s a 5-metre bell tent, comfortably furnished and ready for you on arrival. Inside you’ll find a king-size memory foam mattress, a double fold-out sofabed (sleeping up to four), rugs, and battery-powered tea lights and flameless pillar candles. Outside, there’s a picnic table, outdoor rug, and your own fire pit and BBQ combo - a firewood starter bundle is available to add when you book, and additional firewood is available to buy on site (fire policy varies with weather and wildfire risk - we’ll let you know the current rules (wood, charcoal, or fires paused) when you book). A few metres from the tent, the shared camping kitchen gazebo houses your own dedicated gas stove, kettle, pans, and basic crockery and cutlery, plus a cool box stocked with ice packs, which we’ll refresh daily. Cold water is available from the tap in the stable, just a short walk away. Shared facilities include two composting toilets and a hot outdoor shower. We’re fully off-grid, so we’d recommend bringing your own portable charger, but if you forget, we can lend you one. Fitted sheets are provided for all stays. To keep costs flexible, bedding is an optional extra - bring your own sleeping bags and pillows, or add a full bedding set (linens, pillows and duvet) when you book. If you add the bedding set, the kingsize bed will be made up on arrival and bedding for the double sofabed will be provided in a storage bag. At weekends, our self-service coffee hut is a short walk away for a barista-style coffee.

We loved Slader’s Rest! We stayed for one night on the way down to Devon with our two young children. It’s a new site so everything was in great condition and had everything we needed. Easy to find, helpful instructions, Ed was lovely. We’d definitely stay again and would recommend to others.

We loved camping at Slader’s rest! The campsite was really well thought out, clean, tidy and had everything we needed. The location was great, with a really nice pub a short walk away, and the cycling routes were good, meaning we didn’t have to go on the main road. Ed the owner was friendly and very helpful, bringing us new freezer packs every day. The facilities were good with a lovely hot shower. We booked both tents so we had the whole site to ourselves which was great but it would also be ideal for 2 families going away together. The coffee hut was an added bonus too. All in all, a great stay! Would recommend.

We would definitely recommend staying here! The campsite was a great getaway, simple, but has everything you need - a really comfortable bed, a fire pit and also a cooking area with a stove and all you need to cook. The campsite is near a main road but this didn’t bother us at all, and it felt like a great escape, with lots to explore around the campsite and areas beyond. There are toilets and a great shower very close to the tents too. There is lots to explore along the old railway line that runs under the campsite, now footpath/ cycle track, with two villages a short walk in opposite directions. Ed, the host, was very friendly and accommodating, and we would certainly come back!
