We are a small, friendly, family-run campsite set in the High Weald area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a perfect base from which to explore the beaches, castles, ancient woodlands and towns like Rye, Battle and Hastings.
Dogwood is in the pretty village of Brede, and is walking distance from two fine country pubs.
We are surrounded by stunning countryside where you can take your dog for a short stroll across the fields or go for a long romp through the woods and valleys. Or just sit and relax, listen to the birds and soak up the peace and quiet.
We are fortunate to be in a 'dark sky' area, perfect for long, relaxing summer nights around the campfie, sipping hot chocolate, toasting marshmallows and spotting shooting stars!
During the summer our site is a popular spot for families and campers visiting nearby Camber Sands sandy beach and year round we welcome all different types of campervan, motorhome and caravan.
We look forward to welcome you to our little slice of paradise.
Please note our strict 'no group' policy - we only accept single families, single couple and single campers. No more than 2 adults in any group, even on separate pitches.
Please bring your acoustic guitar or similar but, as this is a quiet site, please no radios, stereos or videos unless you're using headphones. The birdsong here is incredible by the way!
Very wet weather and winter – please note in the off-season, and if very wet, the camping field is closed to vehicles, replaced instead by semi-hardstanding areas or our summer car-park area. Facilities are open but please be prepared for the vagaries of the weather, leaves, puddles and mud. To change pitch please let us know asap so that we can try if possible to find you another. Apart from the car-park, pitches can get very muddy in prolonged, heavy rain. If you are not prepared for these eventualities please do not book.

That’s because this dog-friendly site is in Ditchling – a village in the splendid South Downs National Park and a rather excellent location for all sorts of days out.
Good news if the whole family is tagging along: there’s plenty to play with around the site, including an adventure trail through the woodlands, a swing tree and places for kids to fashion their own little dens.
The site is only a five-minute drive (or a 30-minute walk) from the traditional Jack and Jill windmills and the neighbouring family-run pub, which serves both grub and good ales. A vineyard is 15 minutes’ walk away from the site if you'd like to include a wine-tasting tour on your break. Otherwise, simply pedal along country lanes on the surrounding cycling routes (it’s easy enough to hire a bike locally).
On your route, you might want to stop by in characterful Ditchling, home to local craftspeople and winemakers. There’s a nice selection of independent shops here, plus cosy cafés and pubs that will serve you a good spread of Sussex food, all within a 5-minute walk.
Back on site, end the day with a cosy evening beside the fire-pits. The site facilities are nicely straightforward otherwise and include warm showers and a separate dishwashing area and of course our newly installed Composting Toilets.

Chill out in and around your secluded hut, or there’s plenty to entertain in a leisurely fashion: paths wind around the lakes and through copses/shaws (as this is the High Weald) plus through the local countryside. There are spectacular views towards the South Downs National Park from the top lakes. A spring-fed lake is also on site to cool off in with some wild swimming. Lots of bird life around, with feeders outside each hut and waterfowl visitors to the lakes.When it comes to eats, pick up or have supplies delivered from supermarkets or takeaways in Uckfield, Heathfield or Crowborough or take a drive to Buxted Park for some posh food or pubs in Blackboys, Crowborough, Ringles Cross, 5 Ash Down, Rotherfield, or Buxted (it'll take about 10 minutes to drive to any of these). Chill out in and around your secluded hut, or there’s plenty to entertain in a leisurely fashion: paths wind around the lakes and through copses/shaws (as this is the High Weald) plus through the local countryside. There are spectacular views towards the South Downs National Park from the top lakes. A spring-fed lake is also on site to cool off in with some wild swimming. Lots of bird life around, with feeders outside each hut and waterfowl visitors to the lakes.When it comes to eats, pick up or have supplies delivered from supermarkets or takeaways in Uckfield, Heathfield or Crowborough or take a drive to Buxted Park for some posh food or pubs in Blackboys, Crowborough, Ringles Cross, 5 Ash Down, Rotherfield, or Buxted (it'll take about 10 minutes to drive to any of these). Barefoot Yurts has 2 yurts booked together. One a bedroom and the other a sitting room that has sofa beds. There is a log cabin kitchen and shower room which is fully fitted and equipped for most cooking needs with electricity. The compost loo is next to the kitchen exclusive to the yurt guests.
Barefoot safari tent is for 2 adults only. All under one roof is the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. Off Grid.

Me and my partner stayed at Chalky downs for 2 nights for a little get away ✨. Sharen’s land is beautiful, everyone is so friendly and we even got to order a sausage bacon and egg bap with tea and coffee in the morning! ☀️. We went into Brighton town for a bit of shopping and to see the sea, only a 14 minute drive and we parked in the station car park 👏🏼. Would 100% recommend and will definitely be going back! We loved visiting Dogwood.
We visited on a whim one Sunday evening in early September, needing a break from the city. We were pleased to be welcomed warmly by Phil, who was accommodating and available, despite the random timing !
We had the site to ourselves, and loved the peace and quiet - only accompanied by the animals who were roaming the site.
The toilet and shower facilities were close by and clean, well maintained for the end of season, beginning of off-season.
The site is well positioned and sign posted, a short walk from two pubs and a small shop, easily drivable into Rye, Hastings or Camber for whatever your stay is for!

Phil, family, and staff made us all feel extremely welcome (especially the kids). The showers and facilities were great 😅. The breakfast rolls and the pizzas were really tasty and very handy as we had a lot of rain on one day 😋. Having a forest play area for kids as well as llamas nearby makes it an ideal family camp site.

Lovely sheltered meadow with 6 or 7 bell tents nicely spaced out. You can have basic or comfort tent and a variety of extras can be provided by Kelly on request.
Excellent shower/loo facilities cleverly sited in a converted horsebox beside a little kitchen area - all with loads of instant hot water.
Each tent has its own area for dining/camp fires but there is also a communal campfire and bbq.
Set in the heart of the countryside but within a 5/10 min drive of some pubs, Hastings and the coast, with something for everyone in the surrounding area.
We loved it!! Signed 'young at heart' Granny, daughter + 4 grandchildren.

Beautiful little spot with plenty to do in the surrounding areas. Whether it’s walking trails, pubs, wineries or even a medieval town.
There’s no water on the block but the local morrison’s is happy for you to bring water from there to the camp.
Highly recommend and gorgeous spot to set up camp.

Really well organised from logs to food, good facilities including the open air showers. staff all really friendly. space is perfectly located for walk (to lots of well placed pubs)
pitches are large and no space is very far from the facilities. if i had one request for next time it would be better coffee but that’s a bit picky!

Very hilly but this was a great thing for us as it’s adds to the privacy you have from other campers. Showers were great but toilets needed some work (a couple of the doors were broken).
Huge woods surrounding the campsite for lovely walks. Would definitely recommend.

We had a really nice stay at Charles’s campsite. It was well organised with facilities for showering, proper flushing toilets and washing dishes as well as access to a fridge. We rented a fire pit and logs which makes the camping experience even better. It was a relaxed campsite with kids able to run around and make friends. We would stay here again.

Our second time here, we love the space, great facilities with clean toilets and showers, a huge fridge to store any food/drinks in. We were lucky to have some great people around us also staying there and plenty of place for the kids to run around and play. Extra bonus now it is dog friendly! The sky at night is so clear, I sat and watched the stars for hours with a fire pit cackling. We will be back again next year.
