Simple camping and comfortable glamping amongst organic fruit trees, wild flowers and woodland, bordering an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with some of the darkest night skies in Europe. In the beautiful High Weald of Kent, Tash and Nick have been running May Tree Orchard's low-impact, nature-friendly, seasonal campsite, Plum Camping, for the last 5 years.
The Soil Association certified organic land is full of wild flowers and surrounded by woodland and other orchards. Electricity and hot water for showers and washing up is solar generated. So you can charge your phone if necessary, but we'd recommend stargazing and enjoying the quiet warmth of friends and family around an evening fire instead.
Bring your own tent, stay in the delightful hand-made shepherd’s hut or stylish caravan, or hire the whole May Tree Orchard space. Numbers are kept low here so that there is always plenty of room for everyone, as well as peace and quiet.
The campsite is an hour and a half drive from London and a 20 min walk to the sleepy and pretty village of Goudhurst, with pubs selling great food and two local shops for self-catering. There are also two excellent farm shops within walking distance.
Close to May Tree Orchard, there are walks via Sissinghurst, Scotney and Bodiam Castle, and water activities on the River Rother and at Bewl Water. Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest is a ten-minute drive from the campsite and the coast around Hastings and Rye is just over 30 minutes.
An amazing independent food business, Growing Communities, sells pears, apples and plums grown at the orchard in their box scheme serving North and South London, and you can also buy them from the Pear Necessities stall at Stoke Newington Farmers Market. Delicious apple juice and tasty chutney made from the organic apples grown in the orchard are available to purchase on site, as well as plum preserve and orchard plums.

Weekend Trip to The Nut Plat Retreat
We had such a lovely stay here and would definitely recommend it. The accommodation was comfortable , well equipped, and had everything we needed for a relaxing break. It was peaceful, private, and the perfect place to switch off for a couple of days.
The hot tub was a real highlight, especially in the evening, and the whole setting felt really well looked after. Communication from the host was excellent, with clear instructions and a smooth check-in process.
We had a fantastic experience from start to finish and would definitely recommend staying here. Thank you again!

Our only problem was getting in the access gate as it was jammed closed, but we were met quickly to help get us in.

Lovely ‘wild Glamping’ set up. Off grid.
Each bell tent was equipped so that all you need to bring is bedding, food and a tea towel.
We stayed on a very hot evening so the tree cover was welcome. Plenty of shade and protected from elements. There is a little field if you want to get out from the woods (and play a little badminton). Bucket shower was great.
I also over stayed by an hour or so (thanks!) and saw just how much effort was put into the cleaning of the cooking equipment etc by the staff who were wonderful.
I did take a camping stove as I wasn’t sure I wanted to cook over a fire during the heatwave but actually I made a fire anyway as it is always fun and could have coped without.
If going in wet weather I would make sure you take decent footwear - that’s all! Thanks for a lovely stay

Lovely pod ,well presented and clean ,beautiful views and only one other pod and a shepherds hut on the sit ,very peaceful and quiet, would happily go back again and recommend to friends and family.

Lovely big pitch, great, clean facilities (both compost and flushing loos available), and beautiful tree edged site with a distant soundscape of peacocks! Being able to visit the animals each morning was a real highlight, especially meeting a day old baby goat! Log delivery available each teatime but we missed it one night and the owners were still able to arrange for us to have logs when we texted them. Thank you.

What a superb camping site! We have stayed on lots of sites and this was one of our favourites- huge pitches, clean and plenty of toilets/showers.
The local walks and ideas were fab and I can definitely say that I have never stayed on a site with a camel before!
The owners and staff were all amazing and nothing was too much trouble for them. Thank you for creating a space and experience for all to enjoy!

I loved camping at Tomkin's farm. The site is surrounded by beautiful countryside and there were lots of interesting meadow flowers, insects, birds, and animals to be seen in the area. The llamas, alpacas and bactrian camel were fascinating for the children and the llama behaviour in particular was of deep interest to the girl in our group.
The showers and toilet facilities were in good shape and water was good and hot. Signage for drinking water and women's only toilet could be clearer.
The footpath to the local pub was easy to follow and the pub itself was good.

The campsite is lovely and situated in beautiful countryside. Facilities are good, although signage around the women's only toilet and the drinking water tap, could be better. The showers are very hot, and the one cold shower was very welcome on the hottest days. It was lovely to walk to see the alpacas, llamas and camel - the latter of whom was very sensibly staying in the shade. The walk to the nearest pub is very pleasant!

Wonderful stay! Such a lovely & peaceful setting with the main sound all weekend being the amazing birdsong! Small and relaxed site with lots of space between pitches and limited number of campers. We had such a friendly and helpful welcome from Natasha and Nick and lovely chats throughout our stay about their orchard and local places to visit etc. The outdoor shower was a highlight especially as we were there during a heatwave! Also the apple juice and jam. Great to be able to re-freeze ice blocks too. The surrounding area is also beautiful. Would definitely recommend.

This was a great campsite, they were very friendly. The facilities were basic but clean and functional. The cafe was great and the option of pizzas on Saturday and Sunday night was brilliant. The location was lovely and seeing the alpacas and camels was fantastic.

Cute, back to basics campsite with super friendly hosts. Really peaceful setting, lots of birds around, and we loved being able to buy fresh apple juice on site. We stayed over a very hot bank holiday weekend in May, and the shower was properly hot by the end of the day!
It's a car-free site (parking at the top of the field) but they're happy to host small campervans!

May Tree Orchard is a wonderful campsite; mega tranquil, beautiful and so so lush and green! I really loved the scenery of the valley from our pitch and the hosts Natasha and Nick were absolutely wonderful too!
P.s. It's dog friendly!
