This property was settled by the Irish in the mid 1800’s. Originally inhabited by Algonquin peoples the land was cleared for farming and they erected several building including a large German style hand hewn timber frame barn which still stands and is used today. The farm house was built in the 1910 and the original log cabins have been reframed into artistic buildings. It is wild to look around and imagine what life was like before now in a time when the land had no boundry lines and was traversed by indigenous peoples of this area. We have a great respect for those who have walked before us and a deep sense of gratitude for being here today. The cottage is at the edge of a large wilderness area. We supply an ultra-safe large canoe with paddles and lifejackets. It's an easy and fun 15 minute paddle to reach the cottage. The cottage is an artistic gem on a safe and quiet lake with beavers and loons and numerous bird species -- owls, herons, hawks, ospreys, and many migratory songbirds. In over 20 years of experience on the lake, we've seen no bears. It's a cosy three-room place with a small bedroom (8x12) with an antique double bed; a main room (16 x12) with a single bed; and a kitchen (8X12). Sleeps 3, max. Access to the cottage is up a short set of irregular stone stairs from the lake. This could be an impediment for elderly or frail people. The lake is not a private lake. There are other cottages. But it's a very quiet lake and often there's no one else there. The landscape is very similar to Algonquin Park's. North Kawartha is famous as the birthplace of the canoe. This is a thinly-populated landscape of rugged granite bluffs, thickly-forested hills and valleys, and gorgeous lakes that remain quiet and peaceful even during the hottest summer weeks. This place was made by and for lovers, artists, poets, musicians, dreamers, writers, environmentalists, ecologists, escapists...and their children. Enjoy!

Learn more about this land: Rustic bunkie located on 2 acres, is nestled among the trees beside a small, crystal clear lake. With 700 ft of untouched shoreline, privacy is second to none. From this lake, you can access 3 other lakes by provided canoe/kayak without portage. The site is 35 min. from Algonquin Park and 11 km from MKC, the world-famous white water paddling centre. 10x10 main floor with sleeping loft. Solar power provides lighting & a propane furnace for cool nights. Solar lights outside provide ambient lighting-may be turned off if preferred. The call of the loons & the barred owl will be your lullaby as you drift off to sleep after a day of hiking, paddling, or swimming.  There is no running water, you will have to bring your own drinking water. You will need to bring everything you require for cooking, eating and washing dishes. There is no sink, stove, or BBQ on site. As the site is off-grid, there are no appliances. There is a split log bench beside the self-contained fire pit.  Please bring your own firewood, matches/lighter,  and/or firestarter materials. Small fires only please, as this is a well-treed location. Fires must be extinguished prior to going to bed — there is a bucket by the firepit. If you are wondering if something is there, I suggest you reach out to check with me before arrival. There is a new private outhouse on site. The outhouse is past the bunkie along the path. Solar lights work with the flick of a switch — one switch by the door, one by the bed. You have access to 2 kayaks and 1 canoe, 2 adult lifejackets. These are located on the waterfront between the bunkie and the house @260 Matcheski Road. Please return these as you found them after each use. They are shared with the guests at the house. It is a natural shoreline at the bunkie, with a sandy bottom — pretty good swimming, actually! Absolutely no harsh chemicals/detergents in the water! Please leave the site tidy and as you found it. Take your garbage and recycling. This is a small lakeside community —  no loud music, please. Respect the solitude!  Please respect the natural setting — leave it as you found it, do not cut live growth.

The cabin has minimal cooking items for your use, Coleman stove, percolator for coffee, and campfire tripod are available. You will need to bring your own bedding, toiletries, and utensils for cooking. Please leave the cabin exactly as you found it. You will need to bring your own propane for the Coleman stove and Martin heater. In the winter you can ice fish, cross country ski, hike on Baptiste lake or hop on the nearby snowmobile trail for days of riding. It is a beautiful place surrounded by pure wilderness. Staying in the treehouse was an amazing experience — peaceful, quiet, and perfect for two people. We really enjoyed sitting outside and just taking in nature.Pedja is an amazing host, and you won’t find many like him. He made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. We even went fishing together, which was completely unexpected but ended up being the best part of our stay. He was friendly, easy to talk to, and genuinely made the experience special.There’s also a beautiful trail nearby if you enjoy walking and exploring. We had a great time overall and would definitely come back again. He even allowed us to stay a couple of extra hours, and there was plenty of firewood for a perfect campfire.

We enjoyed our stay at Choleena’s so much! It’s a beautiful and comfortable place, very private and enjoyable for anyone who loves spending time in forests and lakes. The cabin is super cozy and there’s plenty of lawn games to occupy yourselves with or just taking it easy in a hammock. I wholeheartedly recommend it :)

We are long time tenters, but this year we decided to try something different and we found this campground with the mini cabins. I will stay here at the outset that we enjoyed this place very much and we stayed for six nights. The cabins are very well kept and clean and also very private. Fortunately for us, there were no other campers on site when we were there but even if the campsite were full you would still have plenty of privacy. The owners are also super friendly and helpful. We felt that the location was very Central to all of the other day activities that we carried out. We were able to visit several provincial parks during our stay and used this campsite as our base. We earlier had purchased a season pass for the provincial parks which paid for itself after just a few days. You can drive in several directions from this campsite and enjoy wonderful scenery, as well as several provincial parks. A brief ride into Bancroft if you want to re-enter civilization for a while and grab a quick coffee. Bancroft also has a wonderful little park right in the middle of town. Maynooth itself has several nice little shops that you can pick up some souvenirs or other essential items. Locals are warm and friendly. Bring extra water with you or pick it up at the entrance on the way into the campsite. Also, the mattress in the bed area may not be to everyone's liking and you may need some extra padding,so keep that in mind. We highly recommend this place.

Weekend Trip to Perth Boho Chic Vintage Caravan

I would recommend to a friend if I knew my friend was into this kind of camp site. The site is tranquil and beautiful, tucked away in the woods. 2 minute drive from a nice walking/biking trail. 20 minute drive from Perth, which is a nice little town to visit with lots of shops, cafes and restaurants and places to walk. The camper is comfortable for 2 adults, would be squishy for four. Enjoyed the fire pit at night. The outhouse is clean and very pleasant all things considered.

A nice and cozy spot to stay. The bunkie is comfortable and bigger than you'd expect, it really is a good base for adventures in the region. Quiet and private as well. We'll be coming back I'm sure!

Such a beautiful cabin and gorgeous land. We had such a great time building campfires, eating smores and walking around the property. The sky at night was amazing. Jason was very helpful and answered any questions we had in a timely manner. Bonus points: Rocky the dog is extremely cute. Would definitely return!

3 nights at Backwoods Cabins

Corey's cabin exceeded every expectation. From the moment we walked in, the space felt warm and intentional; the shiplap walls, wood-burning stove, and beautiful macramé décor gave it a cozy, curated feel without losing that true cabin charm. The kitchen was surprisingly well-equipped. The property itself is absolutely stunning. The river views through the trees were like something out of a painting ; we sat by the water for hours. Even on a foggy day it felt magical, with the string lights strung between the pines adding a fairytale touch. We even celebrated my birthday here and it felt like the perfect setting for it. Peaceful, private, and surrounded by nature. The wood stove kept things cozy all night, and the firewood was ready to go. If you're looking for a place to truly unplug and reset, this is it. Highly recommend!
