Both Susan and Tony were amazing hosts. They were always quick to answer any questions and were incredibly kind! We did end up booking a tour with them of their place which was truly spectacular and original. Me and my parter have already discussed when we will return next. We will be forever thinking about our conversations with them both sharing our love for the environment and dogs:) Looking forward to our next visit!

Susan was an excellent host. When we first showed up we were a little lost and she guided us right to our campsite. We were camping on Thanksgiving and she invited us into her home and gave us a slice of homemade pumpkin pie (it was amazing). We left in a hurry but we would definitely go back again.

We had a very cosy stay at the Portal retreat with our pooch. It was pretty rainy but that made the stay even more cosy. The bed was really comfortable , and it’s such a close walk to Sproat lake. We enjoyed swimming and paddling , very peaceful. We hope to be back again soon :)

Had a lovely little getaway at the Portal Retreat. Close to town, beautiful view of nature from inside and outside the cabin and minutes from one of the nicest lakes I’ve swam in. Excellent hosts as well. Would definitely stay again.

We loved this little glamping cabin as the launching point for our Vancouver island adventure! The lake is spectacular for swimming and just relaxing, and not busy at all even on a holiday weekend. Andrew was so helpful, accommodating, and provided everything we could need!

The campsite is nice, it’s small and right between ucluelet and Tofino. Each rv site is walled by trees so you get a bit of privacy.
The RV site has a socket (large appliance socket, for for RV, but you need an adapter to plug a household appliance into it). It also has a water hookup, but it’s low to the ground so you can’t just use it as a spigot: you need a short hose. The ground is hard rocks of course, so if you put a tent there, bring padding or a mat. It has a picnic table on site, which is nice.
The bathrooms are portable potties, inside a little wooden shelter. No water in them. Across the street is the visitor center, and it has a men’s, a women’s, and a special needs washroom open 24 hours.
There’s leopard slugs all over the place, so be careful where you step. You do hear highway noises, but only during the day: at night the traffic dies, so it’s quiet.

About
If you’re looking for a lake beach, Kennedy Lake Provincial Park is a nice spot between Port Alberni and Tofino. Come for a day of swimming, wildlife viewing, fishing, kayaking, or windsurfing in summer—just keep in mind that wind can whip up with little warning here so extreme caution is recommended. In fall, you can see the annual beach spawning of sockeye salmon and perhaps glimpse black bears. The park comprises two sites along the south shore of the lake, adjacent to Pacific Rim National Park Reserve on the west coast of Vancouver Island.Facilities are limited, with just a small picnic area, pit toilets, and a rustic boat launch.
When to go
The prime time to visit Kennedy Lake Provincial Park is during the summer months, from June to August, when the weather is warm and the park is in full bloom. Conversely, the off-peak season, particularly from November to February, can present challenges with cooler temperatures and limited access to some areas of the park.
