We purchased 40 acres several years ago and built our home on the west side. We wished we could better access and appreciate the amazing views on the east side so we built two off grid cabins and a campsite. We have been encouraged to share this very special location with others.

Lights Out-The Shed & Pasture

5 sites ¡ RVs, Tents4 acres ¡ Cheyenne, WY
My homestead is located on 4 1/2 acres of pastureland that currently have no animals. The camping spots are located on the back part of the property and along a refurbished shed that includes a 20amp plug, interior electric, clean well water delivery or hose filling in warmer months as well as a separately fenced area for visiting canines (Please only non-aggressive breeds unless leashed at your camp). My Golden has an invisible fence and is not allowed to visit campers unless permitted. Fires are only permitted and shared on the back patio of my home. Activities for fun on site include corn hole, firepit on upper patio along with a propane weber grill. Only 1 mile from Frontier Park and an electric bike ride to downtown to tour the museums, restaurants & shops. Currently, new to hip camp and refurbishing the house and exterior so The Shed will be a working/congregating space with refrigerator/freezer, electric cooktop and indoor space with electric heater so folks can escape their cars/vans. Wi-Fi will eventually be in The Shed but is currently available on my back patio. This was my dream come true property and I'm looking forward to sharing it with road warriors like me. Weather is forever changing here and clouds roll by fast leaving the most fabulous rainbows. I just ask that no fires of any kind be set at your site because the field is a fire hazard in the dry plains.

The best camping near Curt Gowdy State Park guide

Overview

About

Wyoming's Highway 210 is locally known as Happy Jack Road—with a natural playground like Curt Gowdy State Park along the way, we have a hunch why this Jack character was so darn giddy. This is one of the state's most versatile parks, with fantastic opportunities for both land and water-centric recreation. Lace up those hiking boots or buckle your bike helmet and spend some time in the foothills of the Laramie Mountains, named an “epic trail system” by the International Mountain Bicycling Association. Afterward, take a boat out for a spin on one of the park's reservoirs: Granite is ideal for water sports, while Crystal is a utopia for fishermen in search of seclusion (and a wealth of kokanee salmon and rainbow trout). The water is sourced by the nearby towns of Laramie and Cheyenne, so no swimming is allowed—but the close proximity to city limits means that Curt Gowdy State Park is super convenient from any direction.

When to go

The ideal time to visit Curt Gowdy State Park is from late spring to early fall, when the weather is warm and the park's full splendor is on display. Winter months can be harsh, with snow and cold temperatures limiting access to certain areas and activities.

Know before you go

  • Check the park's official website for updates on trail conditions and closures before your visit.
  • Always pack sufficient water and sun protection, as the park's elevation can lead to rapid weather changes.
  • Be mindful of wildlife; store food securely and maintain a safe distance from animals.
  • Accessibility varies across the park; some areas may not be suitable for visitors with mobility challenges.
  • Facilities such as restrooms and picnic areas are available, but it's wise to bring essential supplies in case they are busy.
