The Chickadee Cabin is completely off-grid. There is no electricity, no indoor running water, and no internet. The cabin is an ongoing project; however, it is well equipped for a comfortable and relaxing stay for adventure seekers and peace-and-quiet lovers who don’t mind roughing it just a little. Lighting is provided by three propane lights (two in the kitchen area and one in the downstairs bedroom). An assortment of quality LED rechargeable lamps is also available for lighting the upstairs bedroom. A full solar system is planned for spring/summer 2026. In the meantime, several battery-operated options help make the cabin feel almost like it has electricity. A Bluetti AC70 power station is available to power and charge low-draw devices such as cell phones, tablets, portable DVD players, AC lamps, and a Nintendo Switch. The cabin also has an AM/FM radio that receives several clear stations. There is a 16-inch portable DVD player with a small collection of classic movies. The cabin is heated with a wood stove, and all firewood for indoor heating is provided. Guests are kindly asked to bring their own bagged firewood if they plan to use the outdoor fire pit. Bagged firewood is available at local general stores. Cooking is done on a propane stove with four burners and an oven. The kitchen is stocked with basic essentials, including utensils, pots and pans, and dishes. There is currently no refrigerator (planned with the solar system), but a cooler is provided for keeping food cold. During winter, frozen items can also be stored outdoors. An outdoor outhouse serves as the toilet. The cabin is located at the end of a roughly 300-foot laneway. Winter access is by walking or snowshoeing. Multiple pairs of snowshoes are available to borrow, and a toboggan is provided for hauling gear. Parking is available at the beginning of the laneway, just off the road. The cottage is at the edge of a large wilderness area. We supply an ultra-safe large canoe with paddles and lifejackets. It's an easy and fun 15 minute paddle to reach the cottage. The cottage is an artistic gem on a safe and quiet lake with beavers and loons and numerous bird species -- owls, herons, hawks, ospreys, and many migratory songbirds. In over 20 years of experience on the lake, we've seen no bears. It's a cosy three-room place with a small bedroom (8x12) with an antique double bed; a main room (16 x12) with a single bed; and a kitchen (8X12). Sleeps 3, max. Access to the cottage is up a short set of irregular stone stairs from the lake. This could be an impediment for elderly or frail people. The lake is not a private lake. There are other cottages. But it's a very quiet lake and often there's no one else there. The landscape is very similar to Algonquin Park's. North Kawartha is famous as the birthplace of the canoe. This is a thinly-populated landscape of rugged granite bluffs, thickly-forested hills and valleys, and gorgeous lakes that remain quiet and peaceful even during the hottest summer weeks. This place was made by and for lovers, artists, poets, musicians, dreamers, writers, environmentalists, ecologists, escapists...and their children. Enjoy!

An absolutely private site of a former hunting camp above a peaceful lake surrounded by a quiet forest. Three comfortable cabins on site, each with a screened porch, kitchenette, running water, and a tree-house-like sleeping loft, can accommodate up to six guests double occupancy. This completely private property has many trails to explore, comes with a canoe and a rowboat, and is perfect for people of all ages seeking adventure or a tranquil atmosphere to relax and rejuvenate. A cozy adventure retreat in the woods perched above a peaceful paddling lake that is environmentally protected. Many trails throughout the property have diverse character and back onto hundreds of acres of crown land with an abundance of wildlife. This wilderness escape is just a 2-hour drive from Toronto yet completely secluded. There are no people or houses in sight, no cars, no lights – only the whispering of the towering pines and the sounds of nature. There are three comfortable cabins on-site, Pine Ridge, Vista, and Brooks, each uniquely positioned for maximum privacy and unobstructed views. The cabins are accessible by a short walk from the parking lot and come equipped with a kitchenette, a fully screened porch, and a tree-house-like sleeping loft. Vista and Brooks have a wood-burning stove and can be used in winter. Pine Ridge is a 3 season cabin with no heating source. Come here and enjoy nothing but silence - the serenity makes you feel that you are the only one on Earth. Stroll down to the lake to canoe, paddle, swim, fish, or grab your backpack and head down to the QE II Provincial park to explore extensive canoe routes and hiking trails. In the evening, relax with your favourite drink and enjoy the sounds of wildlife around you. In less perfect weather you will find many board games at the cabin or just curl up with a book by a large window on the main floor. The kitchenette provides basic amenities, including coffee maker, kettle, microwave and air fryer/convection/toaster oven. A 2-burner cooktop is available, however there is no oven. Tap water is drinkable, however may taste different to those accustomed to town or city water. The kitchen opens up to an open living space featuring a spacious sofa and a large screen Smart TV and high-speed Starlink internet. Enjoy a restful sleep, with each bedroom featuring a queen bed and dresser. The modern 3-piece bathroom is both comfortable and highly functional, complete with stand-up shower, vanity, towels, and basic toiletries. The cabin is perfect for a weekend getaway, it's beautifully designed and maintained and is tucked away in the woods which gives you your privacy and lots of trails to explore. I went in early October so got to see beautiful fall colors. Yvonne and Glenn were wonderful hosts, very friendly and lovely people. I'd definitely recommend this place.

My Husband and I went here for our 2nd wedding anniversary. We loved Paul’s cabin! Paul had everything we needed for a weekend getaway. A real artists retreat, the perfect place for us to unwind and connect. The only thing to keep in mind is that the steps getting up to the cabin are a little steep so if you have any health or mobility issues that is something to be aware of. 1000/10 would definitely recommend, and we for sure will be back.
