We live on a small paradise covering 2 acres. We have plenty of space for 33' foot campers, tents, vans, etc. Our backyard has been designed to accommodate families and the single nomads. We are a small hobby farm with a dog, chickens, a small fruit orchard, vineyard, and garden!! On the north end of the property we created a playground with a jungle gym, swings, trampoline, playhouses, outside polyjohn/toilet, and a 16' pool. This property is pet friendly but be warned we do have a large dog (very friendly)! We have power to support smaller 20amp campers with water and a dump station. An outdoo shower will be available in July 2024.

The pasture is quite visible from Old Route 66, nearly adjoining it. Therefore people traveling “the Mother Road” find it convenient to stay with us. Grass is the best forage for horses, especially older ones, so we take care of our pastures, making for beautiful scenery for campers, too. Plus the entire back mile is bordered by old forest. And there is a swimming hole not a half mile away. This is a quiet and private site, bordered by a neighbor's old forest on back, other neighbor's cattle pasture on side, and you're in one of the pastures used by the Horse Sanctuary. (You are camping about 1/4 mile, more or less, from our house.) We regularly see coyote, wild turkeys, deer, fireflies, and the like.   We are just 1/2 mile off Old Route 66, therefore there are quirky little museums and great restaurants (for such a rural area!).   Plus we are only about an hour's drive from Branson. MO. which is a known tourist attraction.

Learn more about this land: Situated atop a ridge in SW MO, on the eastern edge of the great plains just west of the Ozark Mountain foothills, you’ll have beautiful farmland views to the east, south and west, including incredible sunsets over the water of our pond (fish all you want, pull out crappie slabs for dinner). Expect peace and quiet here, with the exception of the occasional mama cow calling to her calf. Great spot to spend the night near the junction of I-49 & I-44. Ride bicycles, kayak on the ponds, take a walk in peace. Small town of Jasper is a few miles away, with RoadHouse Grocery and Liquor store, RV dump stations on both sides of the highway, and 4 fuel stops. Lamar (birthplace of Harry S Truman) is 8 miles north. If you're traveling with horses, there is a 1-acre pen available for holding them overnight. It is 6-strand electrified high-tensile wire with a pipe swing gate and a galvanized water tank. There's also a worked arena with small pens to keep horses separate but adjacent to one another upon request. Negative Coggins required. Prairie hay small squares available for purchase. Riding is not allowed. We have 2 horses on site that are vaccinated and Coggins negative. We have friendly medium-sized dogs. Yours are welcome to run free with the pack. Expect the usual sniffing around and getting to know one another behavior.

The Couple's Cabin is a part of the rustic Cabins of Lakeview by Sue Barn Venue. With its own lake-view porch too, it holds a maximum of 3 guests (including the ladder-accessible loft for one). All the kitchen accessories you may need, comfy bedding, and plush towels, for the full bathroom with shower, have been provided. The little lake is steps from your front door where you can enjoy a little fishing too. The space Along with a well-appointed inside, we have chairs on the front porch for lake viewing and a grill for outdoor cooking too. There is also the Rustic Duck, a wonderful restaurant and art gallery, just a short walk away. Enjoy our little lake! This peaceful countryside cabin has a nice little lake just right for fishing just steps from the front door from which folks have caught catfish, bluegill, crappie, and bass. The Appleton City Lake does not allow swimming. It does not allow boats with motors. However, you could bring a kayak if you wanted. We have a community fire pit and picnic tables too. The grill is electric with pellets. We provide firewood for the pit and pellets for the grill. Guest access We are a little over one mile down a level gravel road and just 3.5 miles total from the small town of Appleton City where we have a little restaurant, Caseys, a very nice little grocery store (closes 7 pm), coffee house (mon-sat 8 am-11 am), and Dollar General (closes 9 pm). I live nearby on the property and am available to greet you when you arrive. Other things to note Appleton City is a small town. If you are coming in late, you may want to stop on the way to pick up food. We have a few stores in town, but some folks are caught off guard to find out the stores close early. But Caseys has sandwiches and assorted quick items and is open until 11 pm.

Clean, private, and spacious. The host was great and accommodating, the property and views were beautiful, and there was even some wildlife. Note that the ground is quite rocky when hammering in stakes. You do hear animals at night (coyotes, dogs, and a rooster) and planes fly overhead (I guess the site is near an airport), but I slept well with earplugs. I had good mobile service in some spots.

Five trails for hiking and mountain biking offer lake views. A fully stocked marina offers watercraft rentals or you can bring your own and depart from one of the park’s boat launches. RV and tent campsites, as well as cabin rentals, are available.

Notable campgrounds

Best for serenity: The walk-in tent sites in the West Campground provide the best privacy, as they are tucked away from the road in a wooded setting.
Best for big rigs: The West Campground has several sites with 50-amp hookups.
Best for long stays: The dump station, laundry facilities, and woodlot are located in the East Campground.

Tips for snagging a campsite

Reservations may be made up to 12 months in advance through the Missouri State Park website or by phone.
Advanced reservations are recommended during the summer peak season, especially for weekends and holidays.
Both campgrounds are open year round, with showers and water available April 1 through October 31.
A two-night stay is required on weekends, either Friday and Saturday or Saturday and Sunday.

When to go

Summer is the busy season, as lake activities abound under the full sun. Expect high temperatures topping 90°F, with high humidity. The lake waters are refreshing. Spring and fall are cooler, with less activity in the water, though boating is possible through much of the year. Fall is a popular camping time in the Ozarks, due to the pleasant weather and the colorful leaves filling the hills. If camping during the winter, come prepared for potential freezing temperatures and occasional snows.

Cell signals may be limited.
Water is not available at individual campsites.
During the off season, potable water is available at the camp office’s frost-free spigot.
An onsite restaurant offers simple fares at the marina, accessible from land or water.
The marina is open seasonally, April through October, with extended hours between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
