Really nice site and well-described in other reviews and by Jack. The camping area is on a slight incline, but not bad. A few essential cooking items - two grill grates, a Dutch oven and large skillet with plenty of rocks around the fire pit to set up as you like. Jack was kind enough to text us offering answers to questions.
The trek down to the river is pretty steep and rocky, but not too long. The courtesy railing is helpful but some is detaching from the posts, so watch out where you put weight on it. The trip up is more taxing. I'd recommend staging some things at the base of the trail to the waterfront. There's enough elevation at the base of the trail and it's back far enough you could stage gear without having to worry too much about people seeing it. Critters might visit if you store food or scented bait. We had the pleasure of hiking up and down during and after moderate rain and it wasn't much more slippery nor was there a lot of water taking that path. That could change seasonally.
The path to the canoe is about a couple hundred feet southward. Most of the water in the are is shallow at around two to three feet, with some deeper pools around the rock bar just south of the canoe and more south of that. A couple bigger fish there. To the north near the island it gets shallower and the water moves faster. We didn't go any further north past the island.
The canoe comes with a paddle and several life jackets. Be sure to check them for spiders and other critters.

This campsite was awesome! It was very private while still having plenty of space for everything and then some. It also was stocked with everything you could need for a successful camping trip! Would definitely recommend!

Absolutely amazing spot. Beautiful area. Had everything we need. Love the little touches that have been added for more comfort. We did use the canoe and enjoyed floating the river. Thank you for sharing. We do hope to return at some point in the future.

We loved it. A quiet pocket of woods that feels worlds away. The campsite is old-school and unfussy—just everything you need :) —it’s thoughtfully stocked and surprisingly cozy. We went during late summer and the trees produce a flood of green, and companioned by the nearby river, it was all entirely refreshing. We loved the privacy, the walkways, a home for a fire & a canoe at the ready. If you want seclusion with a touch of trust and care, this spot is a pure woodland balm.

Jack is a great host, when I asked about the vehicle length he extended the road enough so I could drive my van in, and I definitely wouldn't have been able to get down into the site if he didn't do that. It's a real cozy spot that's far away enough from the river so you don't have to worry about the rain flooding you out. Me and the boys were able to get good fishing done (catch and release) and boy there was a lot of crawfish in that river. Managed to even see some otters on one of the sand bars. Jack was very responsive if we needed anything, and the site had a good amount of amenities that we highly appreciated during our time there. The site itself is slanted in most spots, so definitely make sure you choose your tent spot well and whatever you're sleeping on doesn't slide around your tarp. It rained for most of our time there, but like I said earlier, it's in a good spot so you should have no issues besides a little mud. Very secluded and private, was able to make plenty of noise with the boys without bothering anyone. If we needed any last minute supplies, town was just 5 minutes away.

I’ve been camping all over the states & for this one to be just right outside of town is a perfect escape! Jack provided all the basic needs (bathroom area, fire pit, cooking utensils, hiking trail, wood, & more) but still left us feeling away from society! Highly recommend Jack’s Land to anyone who is looking for a good campsite!

This was our second time here. We are calling it our second annual anniversary camping trip. We love the river and the privacy and had to return! This really is a special place: forest canopy, short hike down to the river, canoeing on the river, camp fires... so peaceful and beautiful!

It was a nice camp ground. Very open, clean, nice areas for a fire and bathroom. The drive down the road is a bit sketchy but once down there everything went great.
We didn't feel comfortable using the canoe because it was really heavy and there wasn't really a gravel bar to push off from, just a few rocks that looked slippery. That was a little disappointing but we still had a good time even without the river.
The stars were very beautiful at night and we heard a few owls too!

Great campsite for privacy and seclusion and only minutes from town. Jack had it set up with potable water, pre-split wood (and more to split), a toilet with more empty buckets and a trash can area. We had room to put up 5 large tents and had 5 vehicles. Peaceful campsite that we all enjoyed. The grandkids asked if we could live there. 💕

Great camping site! Would definitely revisit. Road down to site is a bit rough as advertised and wouldn't have been traversable if it rained but the walk is manageable anyway so not a show stopper. Good host as well

If you are looking for a peaceful remote camping in the woods with no one around, this is perfect. The campsite has all the basics, and the canoe access is great. You can canoe up or downstream anytime for a swim and never come across any other people. Also having a toilet, water, firewood, and a table at the campsite make it a perfect getaway.

I loved Jack’s campsite! All I wanted to do for my birthday is not be bothered and to be in water. Mission accomplished! Campsite is secluded, there is a short hike down to the water, plenty of firewood and non potable water for us to use. I LOVED staying here. The hike down to the river is a little steep, but with the right shoes there should be no issues getting up and down. Jack was easy to communicate with and super accommodating. Cell service was spotty, but some of our people didn’t have any issues. I loved it so much I didn’t want to leave! We will definitely be coming back!

Perfect, private spot. I’m a solo, female camper with a highly reactive dog so this is a rare find for me. Jack was super friendly and came to check in after a storm to make sure I was ok. Will definitely return and recommend!

I never leave google reviews, but this place deserves one!! This was a very thoughtful camp, had all the necessities we need for our family! My daughter personally wanted to tell you this was an amazing camp site and she had so so so much fun. We have a family of 9 and I felt so comfortable letting my kids run free and explore. I love love love how isolated it is, it felt like home. We are very excited for our next camping trip and to come here. Has plenty of shade too! The water was so helpful with all dirty kids. Great job Jack, this has got to be the best camping trip I’ve ever had.

I always love coming here. Jack the host is awesome. It’s a great place for a large group. Or even for solo camping. Very secluded. And it’s a beautiful stretch of river! It’s a little tricky to get the kayaks down and up but once your there it’s a slice of heaven. I set up a hammock on the river and laid in the sun for a day. Or you can try your luck at fishing the Niangua. There’s plenty to do at the site. Also the town has everything you need and it’s only 10 minutes away. You can get some service on the trail to the campsite. All in all it’s my favorite site on hipcamp. The host is a really cool dude and it’s beautiful scenery. He’s done a couple upgrades since I’ve last been like a new camp sink and cleared out some more land as well as a nice pile of wood and a decent Latrine. I HIGHLY Recommend!!!!!

The campsite is deep enough in the woods that is it well away from the road. It has a bit of a slant, but was fine once we got used to it. It comes with wood, a toilet, and a trail to the river. We had a blast fishing in the river and exploring with the canoe. But what topped it all was having Banjo Jack come and play for us at night. He was well worth the $50 and played much longer than an hour.

Jack was a great host! The site was secluded and clean. Enjoyed having a private bathroom area and the 55 gallon water drum that was available for use. It is a good hike down to the river. We would recommend using the canoe that is provided. We are very glad we didn't bring our kayaks. No poison ivy/oak so that was an added bonus that we didn't have to worry about. There is a slight incline where the tent area is but we also had 3 tents so one.od them had pretty much no noticeable tilt. We will for sure be back.

We loved tent camping on Jack's land. The composting toilet was so convenient with kiddos and grownups alike. It's a nice piece of property off the road so you're not hearing traffic sounds. Plenty of great hammock trees and its a pretty property to hike around. The kids and dog liked the hike down to the river but it's pretty steep. Really appreciate Jack's hospitality making sure we stayed stocked with plenty of firewood since we visited during below freezing temps.
