The sunsets from the campsite over the Porongurup Ranges are a great way to finish each day at Rocky's Retreat. Meet our friendly resident sheep - pellets available to feed them, and they love pats! We are located approx. 40km from Mt Barker, 50km from Albany, 15km to Porongurup National Park and 45km to Stirling Range National Park. Within a short drive you can find incredible local wineries, cafes and restaurants. The property makes a great base camp for day trips to Denmark, Albany, Mt Barker, Stirling Ranges and the Porongurup Ranges. If you are wanting to cool off at the campsite, a swimming spot on the upper Kalgan River is 800 metres down the road. Please note - we have recently undertaken significant native revegetation around the camp site, planting approx. 6,000 native seedlings for native flora and fauna habitat. Therefore, the site looks different to some of the previous photos showing open paddocks. Please refer to the photo in our listing taken in Summer that shows the native revegatation with tree guards around each seedling. Campers must be self-contained, with their own in-built camp toilet, and leave no trace. Dump points are available in Mt Barker and Albany. Telstra works in most areas. The Rockcliffe vineyard was originally an apple orchard. In 1990, the first vines were planted, and in 2007 we built a "State of the Art winery", which is located on the property. Rockcliffe is now the biggest winery in the region. We sell wines all over the world and in Australia. We focus on producing small batches of high-quality wines, all of which can be tasted at the Rockcliffe Cellar Door. We welcome self-contained travelers to come and stay for 1, 2 or 3 nights maximum. On booking your site, you will be amongst the vines on one of our levelled bays which are allocated on a first come basis. It is important you have your own toilet, as we do not offer facilities here outside of our cellar door hours. Overflow camping is also available in the paddock across from the winery, suitable over summer when it is dry and we are running our summer music events over the weekend. Please get in touch to enquire about this. The place is very quiet, being in a rural setting, but only 4km from Denmark town. If you are a cyclist, this is an ideal place to stay. We have a mountain biking track that goes around the vines, paddocks, and through the forests, all of which are part of the beautiful Rockcliffe property. The camping areas are a very short walk to the cellar door where you can taste all of our delicious wines or treat your children to Gelato and Fudge. We also offer Cheese Platters, Pizza's and Fries. As you are the only ones camping, you're welcome to make a bit of noise (music, generators etc). Note: Please still add children to the booking, you will not be charged, but it's important we know numbers. Whilst the Hipcamp website considers children as anyone under 13 years of age, we consider them as anyone under 18, and are happy for you to create the booking accordingly. The track through the forest to the main campsite is about 3.5m wide, it can get a little slippery so caution is needed, a 4WD is recommended if towing a camper or caravan during the winter months. 2WD is ok in summer months. There is one transportable long drop toilet near site 1. There is a fire pit for cooking but other from that you have to be self sufficient. There is access to drinking water up at the house. *This property has 70 acres of lush Karri forest with the original old logging trails from approximately 100 years ago, which make for beautiful nature walks. The track through the forest to the main campsite is about 3.5m wide, it can get a little slippery so caution is needed, a 4WD is recommended if towing a camper or caravan during the winter months. 2WD is ok in summer months. There is one transportable long drop toilet near site 1. There is a fire pit for cooking but other from that you have to be self sufficient. There is access to drinking water up at the house. If the campsite is unavailable or you don't won't to drive through the forest, you are welcome to set up camp on the green pastures with great views but there are NO amenities there and you would have to be completely self-contained. We are approximately a 10 minute drive from the beautiful Greens pool and Elephant Rocks beach, and about 15 minutes' drive to the town of Denmark, WA. Pets on leashes are welcome. You will be positioned overlooking our beautiful dam/lake from there is our gorgeous paddocks with cows, horses, and sheep. Your view extends to our beautiful Jarrah Forrest. You could fill your day with activities such as fishing for fresh marron or perhaps paddle on the lake in our paddle boat or kayaks. You could also go for walks around the property. It is also a lovely spot to just relax and enjoy the beautiful view. Leave no trace - there is no facilities here, guests will need to be self sufficient and bring their own camping toilet. There is no water or power provided. Please note we allow pets but the must be restrained as we do have working dogs on the farm - Happy for your dog/cat/budgie to enjoy our beautiful farm freely as long as they are happy with our four dogs. Our dogs are super friendly

Lovely quiet little spot not too far out of Denmark, unfortunately didn’t see a good sunrise because of the weather but was happy with the camp, was sad I could only stay for 2 nights. Also I thought the toilet was perfectly fine, the people complaining about it have never been to a music festival, it was clean, flushable and had toilet paper! Only benefit would be some running water to rinse your hands after. The dogs are also very cute and it’s nice hearing the nature, bring ear plugs as the geese are quite loud🤣

Only stayed for two nights but was amazing. Friendly staff, INDESCRIBABLE VIEWS, well equipped kitchen with various amenities including fridges and stove tops, astronomical water pressure. Only issue is it can get quite windy because it's literally 5 meters away from the bay, not much the site can do about that.

I'm counting down the days untill we can go back here 10/10. Dean the host is such a good bloke very acomdating and welcoming he made us feel like were at home. We camped at the camp spot near the dam there's only one camp spot down there so it was very private it was so peaceful and beautiful amongst the massive karri trees and rolling grassy paddocks. The birds and wildlife sounds made it felt like we had a relaxing calming sound track on constantly.

Stunning little farm. So much space to park the van on the hill, overlooking the dam and animals. The kids absolutely loved feeding and playing with the baby goats and lamb. The host Fiona is lovely. Would highly recommend!

What an unforgettable first camping experience. For two days, my wife and I felt as though we were the only people on the planet. Surrounded by Blue Wrens, we moved through four gentle seasons each day and enjoyed nothing short of a transcendent escape into nature. Our host, Dean, is an impressive and genuine chap. He welcomed us warmly, guided us to our campsite, and even lit our fire to get us started. Hearing his motivation for sharing this place was equally comforting—he simply wants others to experience the significance and beauty of the land he so clearly loves and cares for. With Dean’s confident assurance that the Karri Getaway would look after us, he headed back to his home, and for the next two days we had something I don't ever remember having - solitude. Not once in 48 hours did we hear anything but the sounds of pure, peaceful, undisturbed nature. I foraged, chopped and debarked wet wood to make a campfire, baked a damper, set up and packed down camp in the wet one of the “four seasons” that rolled through each day. We lay beneath the stars—along with what I’m convinced was an unusually large number of satellites—and by the time we left, we were already planning a longer return in 2026. Considering the value of this place, the booking fee feels negligible. If you can make it to this spot, you should absolutely experience this place for yourself.
