Solomon’s Rest

4. Solomon’s Rest

45km from Gloucester National Park · 22 sites · RVs · Sunnyside, WA
235 acres on the top of the Donnelly River catchment. Seclusion at its best. Light and noise pollution free for open star gazing and serene sunrise/sunset views. 2 Dams available to swim most of the year round. The closest has easy gravel access to the water, a kayak or SUP waiting for use. A longer walk with an incline into a clay based Dam is another option. During winter a creek runs through the south of the property. We have grazing sheep with multiple paddocks. 1 Alpaca, Oscar, keeping guard. During lambing season you may get a chance to see them up close. Eggs may be available to purchase, depending on demand from our chicken Coop. 35 acres vineyard with Varieties of white and red. There are many unofficial paths to wander on the property, the driveway itself is great for a leg workout. Most places around the farm will have spaces accessible to walk, you may just need to 'pick a path' depending on the rotation of mowing and the level of wetness during rainy seasons. There may be snakes present. We have personally only seen 1 tiger snake in the 3 years of being here and it wasn't in a place for easy walking. Just be mindful At the moment we are offering only sites for fully self contained set ups. Our infrastructure is slowly expanding and we hope to offer more amenities in the future. Feedback and ideas from seasoned caravaners would be appreciated for the long term vision. The property is well situated for mid south west exploration 15km South of Bridgetown 25km North of Manjimup 45min to Pemberton and Nannup 1.5hrs to Kojonup through the back forrest 1.45 to Karridale and Margs An easy 2.5hr drive to Albany on the scenic Muir Hwy. While the property itself has a farming foundation, with the addition of orchards and vegetable gardens on the horizon, we are a holistically minded outfit. As well as myself, Andrew, permanent residents include Marcia and Brendon and their young son Elijah. As we expand we hope to offer a range of Massage/bodywork, yoga and meditation, group facilitation, energetic healing, catering and craft workshops on site. And a sauna house

The best camping in Gloucester National Park, WA guide

Overview

About

Probably best known as the home of the really, really tall Gloucester Tree, Gloucester National Park in Pemberton has plenty more to offer besides one of the world’s best climbing trees, which was used as a fire lookout back in the 1940s. Campers can check out the great walking and mountain bike tracks, as well as the Karri Forest Explorer, an 86-kilometre driving trail that winds its way through the towering forests. And, while there’s no camping in the park itself, campers have plenty of options in the neighbouring national park or nearby Big Brook Arboretum, which is both a wildlife haven and a great spot to set up camp—especially in spring when all the trees are in flower.

Notable Camping Spots Nearby

  • Best for nature: Big Brook Arboretum, Pemberton
  • Best for families: Shannon Campground, Pemberton
  • Best for wilderness lovers: Warren National Park, Yeagarup

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. There aren’t any campsites in Gloucester National Park, but that’s just an opportunity to go exploring and see what else is around. Nearby national park campgrounds include Warren National Park and the Big Brook Arboretum, which operate on a first-come, first-served basis, as well as Shannon Campground, which can be booked 180 days in advance.
  2. Summer and school holidays are the busiest times to camp, so you’ll want to get down early to snag a spot—and make sure you have a backup campsite (or two), just in case.
  3. Campgrounds in Warren National Park are best accessed with 4WD in the winter months and after rain. Having a 4WD is absolutely not essential to visit Gloucester National Park, but it does also open up more options for camping in summer as well.

When to go

Gloucester National Park is open all year round, though most campers tend to visit during the summer months when the weather is best. While winter can be a little wet, May to October is the perfect time to go camping and explore the bush when it’s all green and misty and beautiful. It’s also prime time to score a quiet campsite and enjoy a campfire (fires are not allowed during the hot summer months). Spring campers will also have the chance to catch some of southwestern Western Australia’s famed wildflower displays.

Know before you go

  • Gloucester National Park is located on the edges of Pemberton in Australia’s southwest. The park is best known for the Gloucester Tree, which is a huge climbing tree with pegs, platforms, and no safety nets.
  • There are plenty of food and drink options in Pemberton and a caravan park if you prefer staying closer to the action.
  • Most of the national park and DPAW campground facilities are pretty limited, with only composting toilets and no drinking water, but there are plenty of shops and roadhouses for supplies and fuel along the way.
