It’s a place where time stands still. Enabling you to reconnect with nature as you slow down and embrace the sounds of the river, wildlife and sheoaks when they ‘whisper secrets to the wind’.
Many stories and dreamings have come from this place which guarantees to inspire your imagination as an artist, writer, poet or musician.
You have access to 100 acres of bushland or enjoy a walk along Killongbutta Road which winds its way through spectacular Wiradjuri country where ancient stone quarries, corroboree sites and a warrior’s grave have been found.
Platypus, water dragons and river rats all live in the river. Be prepared to share the site with wombats who have burrowed their homes into the banks.
Road access to site is suitable for 2WD in dry weather. It is a short, steep drop with two tight corners not suitable for large caravans and RVs.
The site has a newly constructed long drop toilet, pets are allowed and bring your own firewood to ensure you have enough as it's becoming scarce around the site. Please take all rubbish with you.
Please note: Kids under 12 are free to support young families wanting to experience the bush. Please still add them to the booking as they will not be charged.
What is not allowed: shooters and trappers, illegal fishing, motor bikes, quad bikes and other noisy machines!
Killongbutta Road runs off Freemantle Road and is 36 kms from Bathurst. It is 40 kilometres from Orange through Gowan Road that joins Lower Lewis Ponds Road.

In the early 1970’s Mr James, the owner of 'Biara', subdivided three 25 acre blocks across the road from the original homestead. The first block was sold to his nephew, the middle block was to be purchased by the Preston family and ‘The Gateway’ was purchased by a Mr Carveth.
Unfortunately, the sale of the middle block fell through then, due to family illness, 'Biara' was sold and the family moved to Blackheath. After this move, and as thank you to his son, Mr James transferred the title of the middle of the three subdivided blocks to his only son, William.
Back in the late 1960’s, early 1970’s, the area was vastly different than it is today. Travelling to school entailed a car trip to Hargraves then bus to Mudgee which would have been a 2 hour round trip! The area was far more isolated as there was no power and entailed an overland phone line, which had to be regularly repaired if residents wanted to be able to communicate with the outside world.
The site allows mainly for camping and relaxing although there are numerous dirt roads to explore, Mudgee wineries close by and Burrendong Dam not far away (accessible via Hill End Road near Erudgere). Hargraves is also known for it's alluvial gold deposits and fossickers still go there regularly to check out Louisa Creek.
There is 15km's of dirt road which needs to be traveled to reach the property. Dependent on weather, and if it has been graded recently, this road can be in varying states of repair. In heavy rain it may be difficult to get 2WD access via the public road due to the clay content in the road .
Kangaroo, wallaby, owl species, kookaburra, echidna, snakes, various lizards, including shinglebacks, are often seen on these roads and the property.

Looking for some peace and tranquility? We'd love for you to enjoy a spot in front of our creek on our 53 acre property, Brazenhead, which is surrounded by 1.3kms of the Winburndale Rivulet. Brazenhead is a 15 minute drive to the closest shops, 20 minutes into Bathurst, 30 minutes from Sofala and 1 hour from the historic Hill End.
There is ample space for groups, with wide open spaces but also plenty of trees for shade. Fires are permitted in the spots provided and according to local fire restrictions.
The creek is a good spot to try some gold panning, go exploring and also has some deep swimming holes for you to enjoy.
Pitch your tent or pull up your camping vehicle next to our creek! You will have complete privacy, only the kangaroos and other wildlife to share your trip with.
There is plenty of space for the kids to run around, kick a ball, play some cricket, or go exploring along the creek during the day. In the evenings everyone can sit and relax in the quiet in front of a campfire.
We welcome only self-contained campers who bring their own camping toilet/shower. The campsite is 2WD accessible with plenty of room and flat space to camp on.
Not far from our property you can find the Bridle Track, which is very well known by 4WD enthusiasts. It was originally built as the first road between Bathurst and Hill End during the gold rush era, and was given its name due to horsemen having to dismount and guide their horses by the bridle through the very narrow sections.
If you visit in November you may be here for the annual Marmalade Festival, with good weather, musicians, stalls and of course jams and marmalades!

We are working small family farm only 5 km north of Orange and home to the Williewarrina Poll Hereford Stud. With an ample vegie garden, we are happy to supply you with some of our in seasonal produce, fresh eggs and home made bread for breakfast.
We offer only one spacious camp site at a time with stunning views overlooking grape vines to the east of our farm. If the weather is a touch damp - which it is inclined to be in winter in Orange - we can offer you the shelter of our very large hay shed. It will easily fit a caravan and vehicle with room to spare. It will keep your gear dry and your camp site cosy. After a busy day of visiting the vineyards of Orange you are able to relax around the campfire, whether you're camped under the hay shed or not, and take in the serenity.
If you wish, you can accompany us on a cattle experience with both our herefords and highlands, feeding and grooming them (weekends only). You are welcome to try your luck in our dam if you have your own fishing gear.
Pets are welcome but we do have livestock on the property, as do our neighbours, so please keep them under control.
Unfortunately we don't have any toilets or amenities at this point so you will need to be fully self contained and take your waste away.

3 Veg Farm is a small organic urban market garden on the edge of Bathurst. Established in late 2020, with over 1000 native species planted it is slowly emerging as an eco sanctuary. More than 50 different cold climate seasonal vegetables and flowers are grown on 3 acres and sold at the Bathurst Farmers' Markets, as well as from the farm gate shop and box deliveries around town. You can preorder a box of veges for your dinner. Watch the daily goings on of planting and harvesting, or get involved and learn all about permaculture - workshops and/or volunteering available.
(Please note that this is an urban farm beside the train line on the edge of town, not a wilderness, so some industrial noises and trains can sometimes be heard around the clock.)
Bathurst shops, restaurants and Mt Panorama are just 5 minutes drive away. Explore our heritage as Australia's oldest inland city, and there is a lovely little pastry cafe right around the corner.

We are Marilyn and Peter, we own, live and run a mixed farming business from this beautiful land, located in the Central Tablelands NSW.
The country varies between undulating and steep land and has 7 km of double frontage Bell River running through it.
The river can range from rapidly flowing to the more usual steady flowing and is most often very clear. The river has numerous swimming spots, some with a rocky base, and some with sand. The winding river and the varying countryside is incredibly peaceful and beautiful and is a perfect retreat for those looking to disconnect and relax.
The river has its origin near Orange and is also fed into by many springs. Weandre Creek runs in the backcountry and winds into the Bell River.
Our comfortable Hut is situated on an elevated spot looking down on the river with a graduated road leading down. It has everything you need for a relaxing, recharging stay in nature.
The Hut can accommodate up to 4 people, however, you also have the option for up to 6 additional guests to set up swags, tents, or a camper trailer nearby. There is space next to the Hut, or for those with a 4WD, there are some lovely camping sites down by the river.
We also offer sites for those looking for a self-contained camping site, in a beautiful location.
We love the solitude, the endless bush walks, swimming, and being immersed in nature. We are confident you will too.
We also have a lovely art gallery on the property, and for a small fee and prior arrangement, you are welcome to come and take a look.
From our farm, it is 60 km to Orange with all its wineries, food festivals, and many attractions. Wellington is 40 km and boasts the Wellington Caves. Dubbo is 90 km and is a big inland city and boasts the Western Plains Zoo.
We are so glad to let you know we have a new (but intentionally rustic) structure which houses a shower powered by gas and solar with gravity fed water.
Showers need to be short because water supply is limited.
In a separate space is a gas BBQ and sink.

It is nestled at the foot of Mount Knowles, and includes over 300 acres of bushland in addition to approx 30 acres of formal gardens and mown paddocks, one of which has a pretty dam. All areas have expansive rural views.
We offer a basic bush site for self-contained campers and a fully-contained caravan.
At Bushman's Camp we welcome self-contained campers who bring their own camping toilet/shower, and drinking water. You must have your own amenities. Campsites are accessible for 2WDs and we welcoming camping vehicles. You may need to level your vehicle for a comfortable night’s sleep.
There are a few options for camping. The land is undulating with flat spots, with open grassy areas peppered with gum trees. Other parts are more heavily wooded with gums and natives.
Our caravan comes complete with water, electricity, toilet, 2 double beds, dining area and kitchen. The caravan can sleep 4 guests. Next to the caravan there is room for a further tent, van, trailer or motorhome if desired, for a $35 flat fee. Please add extra guests when booking. Outside the caravan, there is a beautiful sandstone ringed fire pit, BBQ, covered picnic tables, chairs, lighting and some firewood available. You will need to bring your own bed linen and towels.
Campfires are permitted at all our listings when not in fireban season so bring your marshmallows!
There are lovely views of the valleys and mountains beyond, and you’ll really enjoy the sunsets.

The campground is available for one set of campers at a time however if you are part of a group we will accept bookings for up to four vans. Please select the site and just add the extra adults to the booking.
For those that need to stay connected there is mobile phone service at the campsite.

Hi, we really enjoyed our 2-day stay. It's a nice spot with a secluded mountain and trees, a big green area for outdoor activities, a river next to the camping, and amazing stargazing. Damien and Tammie were super helpful and accommodating. I'd totally recommend checking this place out for a new adventure.

We had a lovely tranquil time at Brazen head .
Our site was easy to access & we pulled up beside the creek ( although not currently flowing we sat and watched kangaroos and bird life wander around .
Jayne was a lovely host who popped in to say hi & had excellent communication with the booking .

What an oasis Watton Airstrip is! The riverside camping spot I was lucky to have was so peaceful I would have liked to stay longer. I look forward to my return. Keep in mind when it’s says 4wd access they mean it! Certainly worth it though.

Great little spot.
We arrived at late after 9pm, host was gracious and helped guide us into the property even though it was quite late.
Van and camping sites are spaced far apart, no dramas with any of the other guests.
Amanities were clean, well sized, great water pressure in the shower.

Marilyn and Peter are the kind of hosts you hope for, welcoming, helpful and friendly. Marilyn was responsive leading up to the trip, greeted us on arrival and guided us to camp. Peter stopped in for a yarn and to check in on us during our hot stay too.
The campsite along the creek was the perfect private escape. Nothing but beauty, peace and quiet.

Loved our stay at Watton Airstrip on the Macquarie River. Beautiful, peaceful spot with wide open space, river frontage, and privacy. The river is perfect for a swim or just relaxing, and the property adds a unique Aussie country charm. Steep 4WD access, great hosts, clean and tidy, lots of wildlife and dog-friendly too. A cracking NSW bush camp — we’ll definitely be back.

Spectacular views! Was able to see all the beautiful surroundings, including spectacular sunrises & sunsets! The squiggly gums were amazing & the site was well looked after.
The walk down to the river allowed you to appreciate the natural bushland, with the native wildflowers & wildlife. The river & surroundings were beautiful with a platypus, dragonflies, beetles, Willie Wagtails, finches, geckos & too many other insects I have not seen since childhood to name. It was a true delight, with running clear water tumbling over rocks worn smooth over many years, providing a lovely bubbling brook. The water was just the right temperature for a swim & my dogs ( & myself) absolutely loved it. It was amazing to see evidence high up in the trees of previous historic floods & it’s hard to believe how nature can be so bold & beautiful at the same time.
To add to the wonderful karma, there were horses, pony & alpacas who just peacefully & casually strolled through the grounds near the river & were extremely friendly. The alpacas even thought my extremely woolly dogs were one of them! 🤣
Tammie, Damien & family were wonderful, kind & caring hosts who stepped in to help when required without hesitation. I was truly grateful for their help & friendship.
Can highly recommend & will be returning, hopefully with an AWD/4WD so I can camp by the river. 😀

We were welcomed by Catherine who show us where everything was including the eco friendly bathrooms, plus the beautiful area where we parked our camper-van. We were delighted at the fantastic wine experience and we ordered a Delicious charcuterie board. Although Catherine had only been there just a just a short time herself. She was extremely knowledgeable and helpful, which made our experience. All the more pleasing. we were particularly impressed by the stunning paintings on the wall and of course, the breathtaking landscape around us of the Vineyard .

Awsome spot on the river, all sites spaced out so you don't feel cramped. Great views and swimming. Pretty fun track getting down & up to the river sites but nothing crazy. Amenities were okay. Not far from town. We'll be back for sure!

Hill End is beautifully maintained and definitely worth a visit. We had a great lunch at the Royal Hotel and a milkshake at the general store.
