Cockatoo Bunk Cabin
We checked in for a night at the bunk cabin and although it says it’s a bush campground, we felt it was quite dirty, dusty and the facilities were very dated and not that clean.
Megan was super helpful to get us into a cabin at very short notice. If you are fully self sufficient using your own facilities it could be a good place to camp with water views.

Cabins are designed for school camps, with bunk beds with plastic vinyl covers, cabins were clean, no screen on windows, a little run down rotting wood on deck.
Not ideal for anything other than school kids cams really. We left and didnt stay the night. This wasnt suitable for us,

Koala Cottage
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We had the Koala Cottage for two nights. It had all the creature comforts of home which was nice as the heavens opened up on our first night. Very well appointed, great stock in the kitchen with adequate utensils, appliances etc. would recommend to friends and family and will definately stay again. Only wish is that there was a boat ramp or a pontoon to get out past the reeds and tree stumps. I scraped and cut my foot on a tree root trying to go for a swim. A little dangerous for someone unsteady. It would be nice if there was a convenience shop even for icecream for the kids would be a plus! But, we had a fantastic time nevertheless. Thankyou to the caretakers for making us feel welcome!

We turned up and unfortunately they did not have our booking. The lady I called said they weren’t expecting us and needed someone to go in and clean it and for us to wait. She was apologetic and nice about it. The cabin was ready in 5 minutes. The cabin was old school bunks as advertised however could not use the deck as it was meant to be redone early 2025. It felt quite cramped and claustrophobic. We couldn’t see a boat ramp to put the boat in either. We did not stay the night.

Awesome experience. Rita site manager. Was amazing so helpful great local knowledge and extremely friendly. all the kids that visit had a fantastic time down by the lake as well as just riding their bikes around the site had a great relaxing stay. Ben and Megan greeted me as they were doing work around the camp and they were lovely all round. Great experience thanks very much. A big thumbs up.

Cockatoo Bunk Cabin
The organisers were fantastic during a very busy period. The bunk beds could have done with basic amenities such as table and chairs as there was no place to sit inside. Needed a bit of a dust as well.
Overall, the vibe was party-like, facilities were a bit dated but clean and tidy and surrounds were gorgeous. Probably best suited for those who want to let their hair down!

Good spot on water, easy checkin and friendly. Only issue is it is a free for all and not designated area so would be hard to get a spot away from big groups not a complaint just something to be aware of for location.

Beautiful site to camp. Good amenities and friendly staff.
I would suggest if there’s rain around you have a 4wd. You will struggle to get in and out with a 2wd in the wet as it can get quite muddy.
Will definitely be going back but will have a 4wd next time.

Arrived in the dark and found it very difficult to locate a level powered pitch for a van. Person left in charge tried her best but wasn’t able to assist with much!
Setting by the lake is stunning and kangas roaming the grounds made for a great experience. Site is basic as are amenities but that’s fair enough for a bush camp.

The cabins might be fine, but the unpowered campsite at Moogerah Lakeside Bush Retreat is a total letdown. Zero lake views—just a cramped, unmarked patch of bush where you’re forced to squeeze in like sardines, even when the place is nearly empty.
No site boundaries, no map, no instructions, no welcome—nothing. It’s chaotic and unwelcoming from the moment you arrive.
Save your money and sanity: skip this one entirely. Doesn’t belong on Hipcamp.

We loved the peace and tranquility as it was pretty quiet. The views were amazing. I would speak to Ben prior to booking to get the right spot if you would like a powered site due to the differences. For example we stayed on a large concrete slab due to having a 25 ft motorhome. Luckily it wasn’t windy so we didn’t have to tie down awning. If it was windy it would been hard to move it off the slab nearer grass due to electrical hook up.

We stayed on a powered site with our caravan and, unfortunately, the experience didn’t start well. After fully setting up in 35-degree heat, we were told we had to move because someone had booked the spot — despite the Hipcamp listing clearly stating “first in, best dressed” and that sites cannot be reserved. Needless to say, we were not impressed, and we weren’t even offered something small like a bag of wood for the inconvenience.
The man checking us in didn’t take our name and seemed unsure of the process. We were given no information other than “you can set up anywhere,” which clearly wasn’t accurate.
The bathrooms were not tended to all weekend — no soap, no toilet paper, and generally unclean. The property itself is lovely and peaceful, but there are a few things that need attention, including levelling the sites and fixing the large erosion holes throughout the roadways. It’s also disappointing that dogs aren’t allowed to swim in the lake.
Despite the issues, the location is beautiful and we would return — but definitely better prepared next time

King Parrot Bunk Cabin
Well set up amenities and grounds, and plenty of room. Beautiful surrounding bush and water outlook. Megan and caretaker Graham were very helpful when we had an issue with our boat. Many thanks for a carefree, lovely stay.

Everything was clean and tidy and amenities were very convenient. It's set in a lovely area. However very hot in the wooden cabins, next time I will come up with a plan for that, it was still a great stay.

We camped on the waterfront in a self contained van. We got what appeared to be the only really good level site for a large van. It was a quiet relaxing area with great views of the dam with easy access for putting in the kayaks. Only downside was the dust/dirt that you need to camp on. The dust got into everything which made it quite uncomfortable to camp in.

Great view of the lake from the lower unpowered sites, make sure to get in early as the spots fill up late Friday and through Saturday. Hot showers are awesome and included in booking fees. Some more flat areas for trailers and caravans would be good 😊

Really enjoyed the site and we had a good time. Unfortunately, cleaning of the facilities (showers and toilets) seems to be done once a day. That, with no dirt mitigation strategies means that the toilets and showers are covered with brown dirt and water meaning fresh clothes and have to be placed very strategically.
