Beach camping in Victoria guide

Overview

Victoria's most famous beaches might be those along the Great Ocean Road, but the beach camping here is far more diverse than you might expect. The state boasts 2,000 kilometres of shoreline—which is as varied as it is beautiful—with sandy beaches, rocky shores, sheer cliffs, wetlands, heathland, and forests. While much of the immediate coastline is protected by national, state, and marine parks, it's not hard to find camping within a short drive of crashing waves, particularly in the Gippslands region and near Mornington Peninsula National Park. In addition to basic unpowered camping throughout the area, you'll also find riverfront cabins to overnight in, thanks to this region's popularity.
