An easy 30 minute drive from Colac along bitumen roads from the Princess highway.
20 minutes drive from Gellibrand and the midway point of the Old Beechy Rail Trail.
40 minutes - Princetown.

Whether it's a basecamp for day trips or simply somewhere to sit back and be immersed in nature and it's wildlife, accompanied by the sound of the trickling creek, Tucker's Rest has you covered. Easily walk straight from camp up from the valley and find yourself surrounded by ever-changing landscapes from pasture, sandy heaths full of grass trees and banksia, right through to the temperate rainforest that weaves its way through the valleys of the Otway Ranges.
Hiking, trail-running, mountain biking and four wheel driving-there are loops that start and finish from here that are just waiting for you!
The neighbouring farmland surrounds the property on one side and the Otway State Parks on the other which bring an abundance of wildlife underfoot and overhead. Whether it be the resident flock of Yellow-Tailed Black Cockatoo or the local pair of Wedge-tailed Eagles, the Fairy Wrens or the flocks of Crimson Rosellas, Koalas, Wallabies and Blue Tongue Lizards just to name a few, there is always someone to catch your attention!
Recreational climbers will also enjoy the abundance of mature eucalyptus with sweeping limb walks and natural forms scattered along the property's boundaries.

Hi there and welcome to my home, Penzance! I fell in love with this slice of heaven in 2010 and adore every back breaking inch of it. It was an overgrown mess at the time, covered in broken bricks and beer cans. I've tried to keep the bush aspect whilst creating a park-like surround with plenty of grassy space. I have big plans for this land and hope to build a steam museum in another area over the creek. Excitingly, I will also be establishing a blacksmiths forge in that area, which was moved piece by piece from an historic farm at Avoca. Chris is an engineer, antique restorer and artisan working from home.
I offer one site so privacy is assured. Larger groups can be accommodated, please enquire if you'd like to learn more.

The camping ground was nicely kept and peaceful even with other people and families around (school holidays). It is surrounded by forest and farm land in a quiet town so you will wake up to the sound of birds, cows and kookaburras. We even heard a Koala at night!!
The amenities are great . Proper kitchen set up (stove, fridge, tables) as well as normal open camping kitchen around the campsite. The toilets were clean with hot water. We had our dog with us and there were a couple others during our stay and everything went smoothly.
Close enough to walks and waterfalls it's a great location if you want to do the Great Ocean Road while staying in a quiet area.
We absolutely love it and will definitely come back!

Penzance was a great spot to camp. Chris was really accomodating and responsive to messages before we arrived. The bathroom was way more luxury than we are used to when camping! A flushing toilet, sink with running water, hand soap and hand towel were very well received. The campsite itself is really roomy, it easily accommodated a couple tents and a caravan. It is also quite a private spot on the property and there are some shady spots for hanging up a hammock. The firepit is well equipped for cooking over o flame too. Chris gave us a tour of his workshop which was really interesting. We’d happily return.

This is one of the best Hipcamps I have visited over the last couple of years. A beautiful setting with large amounts of space, a large fire with cooking aids over the fire. Tables and chairs provided. The powder room is second to none and a touch of luxury considering off grid camping. The museum artefacts spread over the property provide a walk into the past. Chris is a very helpful host and maintains the property to a very high standard. Easy access and a small town very close for supplies. Optus coverage is limited which for me was a positive A very peaceful and relaxing location.

Such a peaceful and well set up place. Tables, benches, chairs, a big fire pit and the fanciest toilet I've ever seen at a campsite. Lots of birdlife, wildflowers and many interesting things from days gone by around the property to photograph. It would have been great to stay another night! Really nice secluded, private spot with a ripper toilet and friendly, likeable host. Chris' place is spacious and secluded with some interesting rustic metal antiques placed around the property. There's a couple of very solid tables for storing food stuff and doing your cooking & washing up so don't bother bringing a camp table like we did!

Wow! What a great little camp. We booked here to be close to Sovereign Hill for the kids. It was a lovely little camp for our group of two families. The grass was green, the sun was shining, there was plenty of shade and great facilities around the camp fire, like tables. We loved the rusty relics but a true highlight was the Powder Room. Thanks for having us Chris. We hope to be back one day. Don't hesitate in booking Penzance. One of our favourite campsites this trip.

Loved this camp. Very private, serene, peaceful. Can't fault it. Location was wonderful, it was close to Buninyong which has a wonderful pub, nice cafes and shops. We loved sitting by the creek and watching the Wrens, Honeyeaters, and Thornbills. We even saw a Tawny Frogmouth the last night. The sound of the frogs was lovely and we just felt so immersed in nature with how peaceful it was. We want to come back!
The bathroom of course was also a very lovely perk!

The best Hipcamp Bathroom ever!! Beautiful, peaceful, private and very well equipped with not only the best powder room, there tables and chairs, huge fire pit, interesting historical pieces, a creek and plenty of wildlife. Close to the Buningyong Village for cafes and great walks/drives to Mt Buninyong. We cannot wait to go back.
