There are many wineries in the area to wine & dine, Boat Mountain has some great bushwalks & lookouts and the Kilkivan to Kingaroy Rail Trail is great for those who enjoy a bike ride. Recently opened in Murgon is the fossil museum & fine art gallery, 55 Million Years Ago. On the website a quote states, “In the late 1980’s, fossils found near Boat Mountain just outside Murgon in Southern Queensland rocked the palaeontology world. 15 new fossil species discovered here were found to be 55 million years old, predating any other Eocene period fossils found in Australia by 20 million years.” Suited to all, make a day of it and visit 55 Million Years Ago in the morning, enjoy lunch at a local winery before heading to Boat Mountain to see where they found the fossils and enjoy the sunset.
