The Gold Coast Hinterland contains a certain kind of magic. Case in point: This is one of the only places in Australia that you'll see the blue-green bioluminescence of glowworms lighting up the night in Lamington National Park and Springbrook National Park. There are also 500 waterfalls worthy of being chased, especially during the rainier months of November through March. And while this is a year-round destination, its high elevation (resulting in cooler temperatures) is a welcome reprieve during the summer months. However, if you're heading here, be aware that some of the roads are winding and narrow, with hairpin turns—which is all the more reason to book an overnight stay in one of the region's cabins, nestled in a rainforest environment. Expect access to some of the hinterland's hundreds of kilometres of bushwalking tracks and pack your flashlight—you're bound to see plenty of wildlife after dark.

Lake Moogerah is well known for its Australian Bass and Yellowbelly fishing, while our onsite bushwalk leads towards Striker Point and the gorge waterfall, offering spectacular scenery along the way. For those wanting to further explore the region, Spicers Gap National Park is only a short drive away and offers scenic walking tracks and breathtaking views over the Fassifern Valley and surrounding landscapes. While we do not currently have a boat ramp onsite, groups bringing their own boats can launch at the nearby public boat ramp and utilise the sheltered bay in front of the retreat. Important Information About Our Retreat Moogerah Lakeside Bush Retreat is not a tourist park or standalone transit campground. Accommodation is available in connection with participation in educational, recreational or nature-based programmes and activities offered at our retreat, rather than as unrestricted drive-in accommodation. All groups wishing to stay at the retreat are required to participate in an educational or recreational programme, with their chosen activities confirmed as part of the booking process and introduced by our onsite caretaker upon arrival. Our programmes cater for all ages, abilities and experience levels, ranging from simple, self-guided outdoor activities for families and small groups through to fully guided, structured and tailored experiences. Activities may include fishing, canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, bushwalking, stargazing, archery, bush cooking, outdoor survival skills, wildlife observation, campcraft and other nature-based learning and recreational experiences. Our complimentary Introduction to Outdoor Education & Recreation programme is particularly suited to families, beginners and small groups. It encourages participants to explore, learn and connect with nature through a selection of practical outdoor activities undertaken at their own pace. Many of our introductory and self-guided programmes are available at no additional cost when participants provide their own equipment, while equipment hire and more structured or guided experiences may attract additional fees. Rainforest Gateway is located approximately 8klms along Grady's Creek Road, just 20 klms north of Kyogle and 15 klms from the Queensland border on the popular scenic tourist route, Lions Road. Kyogle is a bustling town with an IGA supermarket, MTB riding tracks, lovely gift shops, cinema, bowling alley, and a selection of dining outlets. For those wanting to immerse themselves in nature, the Border Ranges National Park is a short drive away. Lions Road repairs have been completed, however is classed as not suitable for large vans. This much-loved family-owned farm has a rich history, transitioning from a dairy farm to a beef property. Today, it flourishes with a bio-diverse planting of native trees and a joinery workshop crafting designer furniture. Cabin at Valley's End is our flagship accommodation at Figtree Farm. Having 3-bedrooms and 3 bathrooms it is an ideal place for a relaxing weekend. The cabin has flat ground on 2 sides which allows for additional campers (up to 20 people). In wet weather, 2WD and AWD may need to park a short distance downhill from the cabin. In addition we offer 3 creek-side camp sites which have plenty of room for large groups; they are all situated on well drained, grassy open spaces beside the creek. In wet conditions you will need a 4WD to access these sites. Also in wet conditions they are not suitable for large caravans (in excess of 21 feet) unless you have some serious towing power (Landrover or RAM, for example). Figtree Farm has an abundance of bird and animal life. Here, tranquillity reigns, save for the occasional call of our friendly neighbourhood donkeys and the odd rooster. If you wish to wander further afield, Wiangaree is 15 minutes away and Kyogle is a 30 minute drive south. For those who enjoy a game of tennis there is an all weather tennis court (with lights) nearby at Bundgeam Hall. Figtree Farm at Findon Creek promises opportunities for contemplation, relaxation and fun and it is our wish that you will have many happy memories of your visit here.

Welcome to Emu creek Retreat One of the best destinations for hiking, camping, bushwalking, swimming, Kayaking, fishing, mountain bike riding (bicycles only), bird watching, 4wdriving and even fossicking., Dogs, men's best friend, are definitely welcome. But if your dog is not friendly or is likely to venture into someone else camping area, than will have to be on a leash. If travelling in a 2wd please contact us before booking, some of the campgrounds have to be reached by crossing the creeks, Girard camp is one of them where the office and the showers are, at times this crossing is under water and is only accessible by 4wd. Other campgrounds are available near the entry gate that don't require a creek crossing for access and toilets are available on some of them. One side of the property is bound by Emu Creek and the other by Girard Creek, both creeks have enough water with some permanent deep water holes for all year activities. Sightseeing inside the property we have Girard Falls, a 50m high waterfall, nature at it's best. In the vicinity you have the Clarence river at Paddy's Flat Road and Hootons Road within minutes drive from the property. The only entry into the property is by Emu Creek Rd a gravel road. Emu Creek Retreat is located in the far north-east of New South Wales. We are approximately 200 km from Brisbane, Toowoomba and Gold Coast, 150km from Byron Bay. Tabulam is the nearest town 12km away. Fuel and groceries are available at Tabulam along with a post office, pub and police station. Casino is 68km away and Tenterfield 78km. Once a working cattle property, in 1993 was converted into a camping and 4WD park. Since 2017 has been a family own and operated property, pet friendly, we are using the existing large camping grounds to convert it into a camping paradise. Two properties combined with close to 2800 acres, fronting Paddy’s Flat Rd for 2km and extends 7km to the back fence bordering a 22000 acre cattle property. The front section is undulating with plantation forest (spotted gum) and bushland, towards the back it has mountains, steep terrain and millions of trees with spectacular views and great hiking tracks.

We spent the whole weekend at Aliki’s place. It was awesome. Quiet all the time. Sorrounded by native birds. The hot tub was pleasant. Aliki left coffee capsules for us. We took the hike down to the creek and was so nice. At night we light up the fire pit which was really comfy. We definitely recommend the place if you want to have a quiet weekend as a couple.

Containing everything you need in the kitchenette and a stones throw from everything you could want in the shared kitchen. Weekend Trip to Clarence River Wilderness Lodge

The cabin is rustic and full of gorgeous character. We loved the wood fire in August and appreciated an inside toilet for night time needs. The fridge was larger than expected but no freezer. Our family enjoyed gathering on the generous undercover deck for drinks and meals but the fire pit was the favourite. Composting toilets took some getting used to because different systems with different instructions are used in each toilet. We loved being so close to nature and the Clarence River. Canoeing was a hit with 4 year old and 34 year old! We had lovely sunny weather but were still grateful for the 4 wheel drive when managing the road in and out. Lovely caring and helpful hosts.

We stayed at the Sweet water cabin and it was amazing. The cabin is nested at the end of the valley on top of a hill with amazing views and only wildlife to keep you company. Extremely peaceful area and well thought out cabin with spacious common area and large rooms. We loved every minute of it anf will be looking to return. The owners are very responsive via the app and easy to communicate. Highly recommend.
