The Gold Coast Hinterland contains a certain kind of magic. Case in point: This is one of the only places in Australia that you'll see the blue-green bioluminescence of glowworms lighting up the night in Lamington National Park and Springbrook National Park. There are also 500 waterfalls worthy of being chased, especially during the rainier months of November through March. And while this is a year-round destination, its high elevation (resulting in cooler temperatures) is a welcome reprieve during the summer months. However, if you're heading here, be aware that some of the roads are winding and narrow, with hairpin turns—which is all the more reason to book an overnight stay in one of the region's cabins, nestled in a rainforest environment. Expect access to some of the hinterland's hundreds of kilometres of bushwalking tracks and pack your flashlight—you're bound to see plenty of wildlife after dark.

Rainforest Gateway is located approximately 8klms along Grady's Creek Road, just 20 klms north of Kyogle and 15 klms from the Queensland border on the popular scenic tourist route, Lions Road. Kyogle is a bustling town with an IGA supermarket, MTB riding tracks, lovely gift shops, cinema, bowling alley, and a selection of dining outlets. For those wanting to immerse themselves in nature, the Border Ranges National Park is a short drive away. Welcome to Emu creek Retreat One of the best destinations for hiking, camping, bushwalking, swimming, Kayaking, fishing, mountain bike riding (bicycles only), bird watching, 4wdriving and even fossicking., Dogs, men's best friend, are definitely welcome. But if your dog is not friendly or is likely to venture into someone else camping area, than will have to be on a leash. If travelling in a 2wd please contact us before booking, some of the campgrounds have to be reached by crossing the creeks, Girard camp is one of them where the office and the showers are, at times this crossing is under water and is only accessible by 4wd. Other campgrounds are available near the entry gate that don't require a creek crossing for access and toilets are available on some of them. One side of the property is bound by Emu Creek and the other by Girard Creek, both creeks have enough water with some permanent deep water holes for all year activities. Sightseeing inside the property we have Girard Falls, a 50m high waterfall, nature at it's best. In the vicinity you have the Clarence river at Paddy's Flat Road and Hootons Road within minutes drive from the property. The only entry into the property is by Emu Creek Rd a gravel road. Emu Creek Retreat is located in the far north-east of New South Wales. We are approximately 200 km from Brisbane, Toowoomba and Gold Coast, 150km from Byron Bay. Tabulam is the nearest town 12km away. Fuel and groceries are available at Tabulam along with a post office, pub and police station. Casino is 68km away and Tenterfield 78km. Once a working cattle property, in 1993 was converted into a camping and 4WD park. Since 2017 has been a family own and operated property, pet friendly, we are using the existing large camping grounds to convert it into a camping paradise. GingerNut Farm is taking a break over winter! For June, July and August we'll only be open by appointment while we get some much needed site maintenance completed. Send us a message if you'd like to stay and we'll take it from there. We're aiming to fully reopen on the 24th of August 2026. We are an adult-only, clothing-optional, 50-acre farm. We are secluded and situated on a quiet road with forest screening. We have creek with a swimming hole and sandy beach. We offer several flat, well grassed campgrounds, some with fire pits, suitable for tents, campers vans and caravans up to 22 foot. We offer access to off-grid power. We also offer a series of internal walks & running tracks through the forested parts of the property. In addition, we offer a trained masseur who will massage in his forest studio. We offer arts courses: life drawing, basket making and cyanotyping. We offer night tours to view glow-worms. In August and September fireflies can be seen along our creeklines. We can provide escorted tours of local sights including galleries, natural sights including waterfalls and a local commune.

Soulhaven is set on 50 stunning acres with lovely valley views and bush walks. Lots of grazing cows, abundant bird life, a cute dog and fireside jams 🎶 A short 15 minute drive takes you to Lismore, Kyogle and Casino where you can find shops and grocery stores for all your supply needs. We are professional musicians and love to meeting people. Elphie used to own the iconic Nimbin Rox backpacker hostel, and although Soulhaven is only in its infancy, it still has a relaxed atmosphere. Our favourite part of living at Soulhaven is the daily orchestra of birds! Although you will feel like you’re completely secluded from busy town-life, we are only 15 minutes from the nearest shops. Enjoy a toasty campfire in the evenings where you can sit back and gaze at the stars. There are trail bikes tracks nearby and the iconic Border Ranges is just past Kyogle. This campsite is 2WD friendly and caravans are welcome. You may need to level your caravan for a good night's rest. Your pet, on a lead, is welcome to camp with you. We love animals, but one of the reasons we left suburbia was to get away from barking dogs. If your dog barks at night, or is not we’ll socialised, you’re best to leave pooch at home! Our place is family friendly and we ask that you keep music and noise to a minimum after 10pm.

We had such a wonderful stay in your cottage , it was truly a special experience for our family. The cottage was clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully prepared with all the essentials we needed, including milk, butter, coffee, sugar and other little touches that made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. We especially loved meeting all the friendly animals around the farm, and the farm cats were absolutely adorable. They brought so much joy to our stay. One of our favourite memories was sitting around the campfire at night under the beautiful sky full of stars. It felt peaceful, relaxing, and like a true country escape. It was such a lovely opportunity to slow down and enjoy nature. Thank you so much for creating such a warm and welcoming place. You can really feel the care and effort you’ve put into the property. We’re very grateful for this experience and made some beautiful family memories here. We would absolutely love to come back again in the future.

We love CRWL and have camped and paddled a few times before. This time we booked the two cabins together for a family Mother’s Day gathering and really loved the rustic cabins in the private space with wonderful river views where we have seen quolls and rock wallabies before. Sharon and Stephen went above and beyond to ensure our comfort with masses of firewood for the huge shared outdoor fireplace with seating, and for the two small indoor fireplaces, as well as providing a tree to plant for our Mum and access to starlink. We will be back!

Weekend Trip to Clarence River Wilderness Lodge

We had a most peaceful and connecting stay in the cabins at Clarence River Wilderness Lodge. We were nine, with three doing their own camping, so we booked the two cabins for the other 6 of us, which worked perfectly. The hours spent around the well set-out campfire! Cooking, chatting, some arts and crafts, walks up and down the river, swims (yes! in May - chilly and very refreshing but not too cold), canoeing up and down the creek. We saw t least ten different bird species, and two goannas leisurely strolled past our camp. Sharon came by for a friendly drop by one evening and we heard a good bit of the history of the area from her. Altogether and relaxing and refreshing trip.

4 adults and 3 furbabies.......wow what a fabulous time we had!!!! Everything in the house was just perfect and being able to be altogether sitting on the deck was the best. Late afternoon fires outside seeing the cloud roll in over the mountains and then the stars, bliss. We can't rate this place high enough. Was just as peaceful and relaxing as expected. Definitely recommend for anyone to be away from technology and gadgets and gizmos. This takes you back in time , expect ranch vibes and rustic furnishings. I actually didn’t expect it to be as big as it was and also came with a lot of the accessories you need. Plates , bowls , cutleries , mozzie spray cleaning stuff even things like fishing rods which was cute. Loved the wooden touches with the tin, don’t know how it would be in the summer with not much ventilation but it was nice and cool so made it even better. Enjoyed relaxing by the creek and watching the cows. The hammocks were very relaxing and our dog loved the area. Couldn’t have a bath because the water had some mosquito larvae so didn’t end up using but that’s ok was still a cool touch to have so hopefully maybe next time we visit can try again. Thanks again for the hospitality will be back :)

The perfect spot to camp with non-campers! The site had the most stunning views of the valley with nearby creek access. Level ground to pitch tents plus three double bedrooms in the house. Campfire pit and JB and family made sure we had plenty of firewood. Kids (and grown ups) had a ball exploring the grounds and creeks and watching the stars at night.
