The property was beautiful, well kept and so peaceful. Dave met us at the gate in the dark, and escorted us to our site, which was most appreciated. Can’t wait to go back and spend more time exploring.

Weekend Trip to Hillside Camp on Bow River

Hillside is not an easy place to get to, but it is well worth the trip. A huge area of rural New South Wales adjacent to National Park. David has created a fabulous place to escape urban stresses and which ever site you choose, you will feel you are in the remote outback of Australia. Some sites require four-wheel-drive for access but generally the roads are in good condition and the sites themselves are fabulous. David is a wonderful host and introduced us to a number of the available walks and four-wheel-drive tracks which made our stay even more exciting and refreshing. Each site has basic toilets and these are kept in good order by David. This is our favourite Hipcamp site and we will be returning again in the near future. We would highly recommend it to anyone who wants some peace and quiet with a degree of isolation.

3 nights at Hillside Camp on Bow River

What a gem of a destination. David the host has obviously put in a lot of hard work to create this excellent site. The individual sites were like park lands. Mown and level. Porta loos were clean and well serviced. We stayed four days at “Canyon” site. Great spot. The sites are spaced so far apart that every site has a huge area to spread out and enjoy a very private spot. The property has endless 4x4 tracks to explore. Kilometres of bushwalking trails. The caves were amazing. The bushwalking and photo opportunities were more than we could cover in one trip. David is a great host. Helpful, happy and a wealth of experience and knowledge which he is very willing to share. The wildlife is abundant, kangaroos wallabies wombats and dozens of different bird species. Star gazing and satellite spotting by the camp fire filled our evenings. We will be return campers to this site. Thanks Dave.

Our stay at Dave’s place was so nice and peaceful. There was plenty of space for the kids to run around and ride their bikes while we were able to walk with them and look at the scenery. If we didn’t have the next spot booked we would have stayed more than one night!

My favourite place to come back to. There's just something about waking up to the call of lyrebirds and mooing of the cows. Nice big secluded 4wd sites too. Easy check in and campsite instructions as always.

2 nights at Domaine De Binet

We had the most beautiful stay. The property itself it absolutely stunning. The facilities were very clean and beautifully decorated. We done a wine tatssting with Paul, he was very knowledgeable and friendly. The wine was lovely and the atmosphere and views from the winery were 10/10. Both Dan and Natalie were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. I can not fault anything about this place and I hope I get the chance to come back and stay again.

Stunning location. Private and peaceful site. Host was friendly and very helpful. Decent phone coverage on the campsite too. No coverage in the gully.

Woah what a great little gem this spot was. The name “Neverland” really comes alight as you follow the very clearly marked signage through the tree’s down to a cleared area by water and covered deck area. Everything was beautifully maintained with fire pits space for many. Nestled away it felt very private and safe. Only downfall ( and not for all) was no phone reception, as a solo female traveller this becomes a safety feature for me. But 10/10 would recommend!!

Ayr Farm Riverside Camp

Welcome Ayr Farm Riverside Camp, a working farm with river access. We can accommodate both small and large groups with sites just steps away from the river. There is power and water you can access, however there are no toilets, so campers must be self contained and leave no trace. A 4wd is recommended if you want to camp by the river, but there are plenty of 2wd accessible areas to camp nearby overlooking the river. I run sheep and cattle on my farm, set in a picturesque part of the Hunter Valley bordered by the Hunter River, which feels far away from it all but is close to both small communities and larger hubs. In addition to the sheep and beef cattle I have a small dairy herd of 8 jersey cows, milking once a day, which you would be welcome to watch. I also have chickens, working dogs and a small market garden which includes a greenhouse, glasshouse and seed-raising area, as well as an abundance of native animals and birdlife on the farm. The property is a short drive to shops, cafes and pubs, quaint country villages and Maitland/East Maitland with city amenities. The beaches of Newcastle are an hour away with train service from Maitland and the many attractions and events of the Hunter Valley are on your doorstep, with Sydney being easily accessible for weekend adventures. If you want to get away from it all and relax in a secluded Campsite surrounded by beautiful Native Bushland or explore miles of trails, gullies, caves, Flight Springs Creek and the exquisite Bow River, take some time to camp at Hillside, which is a remote 2000 acre working cattle property situated 23km west of MERRIWA, 17 km off the Golden Highway, adjoining the Goulburn River National Park. All sites are in secluded area's far away from each other but at busy times people may pass by some sites to access the river. There are plenty of walking trails and for the enthusiastic bushwalker, the Bow River winds its way 7km down to the Goulburn River through the National Park with its gentle flowing stream and rock pools nestled between sandstone cliffs of caves with open area's. There is an abundance of wildlife to see. All sites are pet friendly, but pets must be kept on leash and cleaned up after. Campfires are allowed when there are no restrictions. Cut firewood is available on request $20 lots, cash only. 4WD and High vehicles are recommended as tracks have rocky outcrops and some areas of loose sand. Some sites can be accessed by 2WD. The Bow River area is strictly 4WD (Low Range) access ONLY as it is extremely steep with loose gravel and rocky outcrops. AWD (All wheel drive) vehicles will not get back out. Outback 4WD tracks are now open for campers to explore as well as Hidden Valley, which has walking trail access to the Bow River. "Gully View Campsite" is the closest site to the property entrance. Great for overnight stays. It can be set up as a communal campground for larger groups. Guests are required to be fully self-contained with their own toilet/shower facilities and must take all waste and rubbish with them on departure. *Most Campsites now have toilets. Phone Service is very limited in this area. If you email a request, it may take a few hours for us to reply. We also do Vinyl, Canvas and Leather repairs during your stay in most cases. WARNING: There are many areas of cliff edges and shear drops! Children must be supervised at all times while exploring these areas. There are also dams at or near some of the campsite areas that could be dangerous if children wander off exploring alone.

Creek is not flowing at the moment. We would love to share this paradise with those wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Children under 5yrs are free. Dogs welcome but kept on a lead during the evening. No leeches and No ticks in this area. NO close neighbors. Perfect spot to pitch your tent or set up your camper in the valley. Lots of sunshine and lots of shade. Easy dirt road access (5km) Some sites require/recommend 4WD -some 2WD is fine. Check each site separately. Wombat, Rocky, Lyrebird and Goanna sites have bush toilets, shower bag and washing water onsite. Wombat, Rocky, Goanna, Possum, Tree, Bellbird sites are all 2 WD. Come and take advantage of the Wollombi Valley's beautiful scenery and atmosphere. Sit and relax or get adventurous and explore the area. The historic village of Wollombi is only 25 minutes away, and has cafes, shop, museum and the Wollombi Tavern. The popular Broke and Pokolbin wine regions are a short 25-40 minute drive away in the opposite direction. Yengo National Park has some wonderful look out spots-great to drive to Finchley lookout to watch the sun set or check out Aboriginal art sites. No guarantee but...You may see wombats, kangaroos, echidnas, goanna's, kookaburras, bower birds, lyre birds,superb blue wren, gang gangs, black cockatoos and so many other native birds/creatures. Stunning rock features, caves, diverse ecosystems with abundant native fauna and flora. We are situated in a valley. Each of our separate camp sites are your own private space.

Have a Fenced off Kids Playground. Buggys (allowed any weekend at an extra fee). Quads and dirt bikes also allowed PLEASE NOTE; They are an extra fee and only allowed on specific weekends. Buggy Tours and kids quad rides are available (extra costs). We would like to advise that entry to our beautiful property is a dirt road and does have mounds. The road has just been upgraded and although has dirt mounds is quite easy. We suggest to drive over them on an angle and take your time.
