'The Refinery' at Hartley Vale

Built on the site of the old Hartley Vale oil shale works that closed in 1916, 'The Refinery" was re-established in 2018 as an organic garlic farm now owned by James and Michelle and their two children. The farm features a hempcrete building named 'The Stinking Rose' used for drying and curing garlic that also acts as a big room for garlic feasts during planting (March, April and May each year). The building also houses toilet and shower facilities for guests when camping on site. On some evenings, the sky puts on a real show of golden sun rays with pink, purple and blue clouds while swallows flit across the garden beds catching moths. New name, same great location. Camp Crudine is the ideal getaway for groups and families to enjoy what nature has to offer. Located approximately 40 mins from Bathurst the camp is the ideal location to enjoy the tranquility of the bush. 4WD access ONLY Suitable for off-road camper trailers, tents and swags. Natural bushland consisting of 80 acres with the Crudine River along the boundary. We are part of the Sofala gold rush history (from the 1850s), sit back and imagine gold miners and their families camped along the banks. There are two campsites, Camp Crudine Kitchen and Camp Crudine Riverside. When you make your booking whether for 2 people or a group of family and friends the chosen campsite is all yours for the length of your stay. If you need supplies Sofala is just 8 km away, drop in and explore the town. Hill End is 28 km which is another Historic town to explore. Camp Crudine is great for kids and adults alike to have a go at panning for gold or try out the metal detector. All findings must be returned to the host, lol. Campfires must comply with the local fire restrictions and guideline and must be contained in the fire pits provided. Bonfires are not permitted at any time. We recommend campers bring their own firewood as campers are requested to source only small amounts of firewood along the riverbank. Under no circumstances are trees to be cut down. Firewood is available at the Sofala General Store. Campers are required to bring everything they need and take all rubbish when leaving. Dogs are welcome but they must be supervised and under control at all times. The owner has livestock on the property which must be respected at all times.

Our property is located in the Blue Mountains, nestled right in the middle of the national park and all that the Blue Mountains bush has to offer. Gums, ferns, fresh air and swimming holes. I only allow one group to camp at any one time per site. Other groups will be well away from you. However the dam is available for everyone to use. I adjust each booking with each group depending on size of the group and time of year. I also hold large events so will book out the entire site for large groups. Just a short drive from Sydney but a world away with its ancient forests and meandering pathways. All photos are from the site or within a 2km walk of the camping site in National Park or reserve. I welcome self-contained campers with your own camping toilet/shower, and drinking water. However there are facilities on site for smaller groups at an extra cost. The property offers a number of sites that can accommodate various group numbers. Please message me if you're interested in booking one or more listings for your special get together. Dogs are welcome as long as they are friendly, but no cats please. Also please be aware that we are surrounded by nature and part of nature are snakes and ticks. - we need to keep this environment for the wildlife. Please take all your belongings and rubbish with you when you leave. Leave it better than as you found it.

Good Paddock is located just 5 minutes out of town with a beautiful little fresh water creek. The property has access to mountain to a mountain hike, 4WD trails and glow worm tunnel access. The paddock is flat and grassy, any type of tent or van can be set up around a campfire. This paddock used to be inhabited by Miners and locals, so you will find bomb shelters, rail tracks and other little historical objects in the ground. There are distant neighbours past the trees. At the top of the mountain there is a breathtaking view of the whole town. This site is close to many gems of the area and there are many 4WD trails. Pets are welcome but must be kept under control and cleaned up after. Campfires are also permitted when there is no restrictions in place.

'The Refinery' at Hartley Vale

Built on the site of the old Hartley Vale oil shale works that closed in 1916, 'The Refinery" was re-established in 2018 as an organic garlic farm now owned by James and Michelle and their two children. The farm features a hempcrete building named 'The Stinking Rose' used for drying and curing garlic that also acts as a big room for garlic feasts during planting (March, April and May each year). The building also houses toilet and shower facilities for guests when camping on site. On some evenings, the sky puts on a real show of golden sun rays with pink, purple and blue clouds while swallows flit across the garden beds catching moths. Our guests like to sit around their campfires watching the spectacular show while kids and dogs run around without the burden of leashes or noise of city traffic.
