The exclusive camping area is on the banks of a old farm dam in the middle of the olive grove. There are sheep and alpacas, and plenty of birds and kangaroos living there too. Year round, enjoy the tranquillity and landscapes of the Japanese Gardens and Cultural Centre in Cowra (14 min). The gardens act as a monument of peace and reconciliation between two countries after the largest Prisoner Of War breakout in modern military history. Cowra's rich history can be explored at the Cowra POW Campsite and various other historical sites around town. Make sure to end your night around a great campfire! You can have campfires in your own contained fire pits and sometimes we have complimentary firewood in a wood shed close by. Roast some marshmallows and take in the starry night sky. Property has a gorgeous stand-alone bathroom building with 2 toilets, a hot water shower and sink. Please keep this clean and tidy. There are cleaning products under the sink as we cannot always be there to keep it clean. There is also an undercover table and basic camp kitchen set up for use in the shearing shed. Please take all rubbish with you. Pick a camp site in the middle aisle around the sheds, bathroom block and driveway OR in any open paddock (granite pad sites on hill are their own sites). Note the ground off the driveway and parking pads can get very wet and boggy so to avoid getting bogged please try to stick to the driveway as much as possible.

The river has its origin near Orange and is also fed into by many springs. Weandre Creek runs in the backcountry and winds into the Bell River. Our comfortable Hut is situated on an elevated spot looking down on the river with a graduated road leading down. It has everything you need for a relaxing, recharging stay in nature. The Hut can accommodate up to 4 people, however, you also have the option for up to 6 additional guests to set up swags, tents, or a camper trailer nearby. There is space next to the Hut, or for those with a 4WD, there are some lovely camping sites down by the river. Hillside is a 75 acre working orchard growing cherries, stonefruit, apples and pears. Amongst the rows of fruit trees is a small block of eucalypts and three dams, one of which is quite large and suitable for swimming, paddling and fishing in. Dawn and dusk brings a variety of birds and kangaroos and skies painted in colour. In summer and autumn you can pick your own fruit. In winter put on your coat and take a walk whilst breathing in the fresh, crisp air. In spring, buds burst open and all the trees are covered in beautiful blossoms. The orchard is in the heart of Cabonne Shire, the fruit bowl of Central West NSW. Orange is renowned for its wineries, restaurants and cafes. At our farm stall you can grab a coffee, light lunch and a great variety of local produce including fruit, vegetables, eggs, honey, olive oil and jams. Just minutes away, Mt Canobolas and Lake Canobolas offer great bushwalking and mountain biking and Borenore Caves is amazing for exploring. Or visit one of the many local wineries. Our neighbours at Orange Mountain Estate Wines are less then 100m walk from our camp sites. A visit with them is a perfect way to finish your day and then stroll back to camp. We accept caravans, camper trailers, motorhomes and tents to stay at our property. You must be fully self contained (except Site 1). All sites, except for Site 1, are located within the farm. This is not your average campground, and what makes it special is being able to camp in the orchard. Whilst we do our best not to disturb you, the site is in a working farm, with orchard work possible at all hours. Sites, whilst relatively flat have not been levelled and being in a paddock, can be uneven. There are no facilitates, and this includes toilets, access to water or electricity and lights.

Weekend Trip to Watton Airstrip

It was really lovely! Lots of space to stay private. The river was beautiful and lovely for a dip. Lots of horses and alpacas. A fox walked around our camp at night. It was clean. Great long drop toilet. We met Damian, a really nice man who made us very welcome. I am glad we found this spot and will be back every year.

Felt very welcomed Awesome campsite Nice and quiet Good distance from fellow campers The 4wd track into the campsite was challenging, but was well worth it. Took my camper trailer down and up no worries. Saw the platypus every morning at the Deep Spot campsite. I’ll be back for sure

Weekend Trip to Watton Airstrip

What a beautiful place. Damien and Tammie have created the perfect space for you to make your camping experience your own. Banjos Run is set back from the river with a view over the water, nice flat grassed camping spots, fireplace and shade in the mornings if you set up near the huge gums. The camp sites are set a long way apart so you really have your own space and plenty of it so you're not camped on top of other people. The toilet is clean and only a short walk. The river easily accessible. Given how dry and hot it's been the area was well grassed and the friendly horses seemed content grazing. We met Damien and Tammie on arrival and during our stay and they are perfect hosts. The track down is 4x4 - my stock Patrol did it easily. I would expect anyone with any 4x4 experience wouldn't even baulk at it. We enjoyed a campfire, a little swimming and fishing. We had a great stay and will definitely be back!

Weekend Trip to Watton Airstrip

We had the most amazing stay at Watton Airstrip! The property is absolutely beautiful, stunning river views, peaceful surrounds, and even though we accidentally booked during the Bathurst 12 Hour race weekend (when the property was fully booked), there was still so much space between campsites. It genuinely felt like we had our own private little slice of paradise on the river. We didn’t realise the track in was a proper 4WD track, but Damien gave us great advice and tips before we headed down. On the way out, we thought we’d done a wheel bearing on our caravan and Tammie and Damien went above and beyond. They had us park up at their house, jacked the van up, and helped us check it over. Absolutely stunning land, super friendly and helpful hosts, and just an all-round fantastic experience. We’re already talking about planning our next trip back! Highly recommend!!

1 night at Watton Airstrip

Our second time staying but our first time down by the river. The Rapids is a lovely spot, but note that it is one of the furthest from the very cute toilet, but we would still certainly recommend it. The road down is definitely 4WD only. We have a newish VW campervan set up for off-road and managed it okay, but it is rocky so you need to pick your line. We can also recommend the homemade bread delivered to our door! Loved the ambience of the roaming horses and kangaroos.

Easy access and close to amenities which are well kept. Tracey provided lots of local information. The location is ideal for quiet restful time and only a short distance to Orange.

Expect to be impressed, You can see the effort that Damien and Tammie have poured into the property, really well maintained, while remaining natural, sites have been selected with campers in mind, we arrived to a warm and friendly greeting, and everything we needed to to know to get to the site. Super helpful, fun track in, and out, a little more challenging after a night of rain, but still totally manageable, loved it, we will be back often.

The drive down and back out is a bit hairy if you have a small SUV and are not much of a 4WD-er (like me) but it was worth it to enjoy the river frontage. I visited during the week when there were very few people around, very serene and still enough water in the mighty Wambuul (Macquarie) for a swim even after a dry spell.

Watton Airstrip is a great spot off the beaten track. With several campsites along the river with plenty of space in between each.. It was 37-41 when we were there, but we were easily able to escape the heat amongst the trees and in the water at the Nook. Great swimming and paddling at The Nook and the Deep Spot. We'd love to visit after lots of rain and see the river run higher and faster. We loved sharing the space with a miriad of animals, alpacas, horses, lizards and dragons, roos and Wallabies, dear over the river and we even spotted several platypus! Watch out for those cheeky horses though. They're always up for a treat of whatever they can steal. Keep your food secure or they be back for more. Spare ratchet straps are good fencing around your camp. Enjoy!

Our second trip was incredible! Friends we invited loved it too. The kids loved the horses paying us a visit in the mornings and the river was the perfect way to cool down during what was a super hot long weekend. We will be back again, thanks Tammie & Damien for being such great hosts.

Tracey was very helpful and friendly. Lovely quiet spot, and the shade was most welcome, given how hot it was while we were there. Lake Conobolas is only 5 minutes away - we enjoyed our swim.

Stayed at Hog Heaven, great spot easy Acess to River. Tammy and Damien great host checking on us made us feel welcome. 4x4 acess only. Big spaces not crowded. Will be back .
