Description

Hodgdon Meadow Campground is definitely a “no-frills" experience. The sites are rather vanilla, a little tight, and privacy is limited. It’s also a bit out of the way from the main attractions, but this is also part of the appeal.

If you are hoping to be right in Yosemite Valley, then this isn’t the site for you. With that said, it tends to be less crowded than some of the more popular areas like Crane Flat or Big Oak Flat. If you’re coming from San Francisco, then it’s the first campground you hit, which is convenient.

The countryside surrounding Hodgdon is very green and beautiful. Each site contains a fire ring, picnic table, and a food locker. While Hodgdon might not be your first choice, it’s definitely not a bad choice.

Not the most level of campgrounds. In fact, the whole place is on a hill. Better for RVs but flat areas for tents can be found.

Campground is good, but can be noisy sometimes due to campsites allocated very closely

When bringing toiletries, bring as much "unscented" or "fragrance free" items as possible. Otherwise you'll have to lock them up in your bear locker. Bring straight up DEET, OFF! & other natural bug sprays won't help.
Also, there are SO MANY "dead & down" trees you can use for firewood so you don't have to bring any or buy in the park. The rangers encourage you to burn it because there's just too much for them to clear out. We were told at the Ranger Station that they'd "appreciate the help." Don't forget wash bins for dishes & water jugs; you can get water there but remember, you're in bear country, so you have to dump dirty dish water in the dump sink.

The inner loops (closer to the bathrooms) are not great and loo-goers trample through the sites en route to the bathroom. Try to get on the outer loop - the lowest and highest numbered sites straddle the entrance and are a little quieter.

Sites are quite close to each other and fairly crowded. After a long drive though it was nice to be very close to the entrance of the park. Not very quiet at night. Fast access to Tioga and the hiking along there.

Was a very crowded campground, even during the weekdays. Camped next to a family with a dad yelling at his kids the whole time. Even when one kid was sick and throwing up he was still yelling at him! The best part about it was its location, as we stayed there in between our nights in the valley and our backpacking trip in the Yosemite backcountry. It is very conveniently located for that, only a couple of miles from the junction of Tioga Rd and the road into Yosemite Valley. It served its purpose as a place to sleep, but that's about it. Definitely the low point of the Yosemite trip, but the bar there is very high.

Crowded campground, and extremely noisy with campers who leave the city to party in the woods. Close to Tuolumne Grove of Giant Sequoias. Would not recommend if you're looking for a peaceful escape.
