Spring is lambing time on the farm. Lambs will be hopping, bees will be buzzing and the garden will be getting planted. Apple blossoms will soon be out. It's lovely! Our farm was named after the summer home of Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. Trollhaugen Farm means Troll hill, but the only real trolls around these parts are the sheep. Our farm has sheep, pigs, chickens and ducks that you are welcome to visit. The yurt sits in the woods next to a babbling brook. A suspension bridge connects you to the farm area. The yurt is private and has a fire pit right out back where you can grill or just sit and enjoy the fire. The colorful yurt offers a comfy four poster bed, a small kitchen area and a bathroom with shower and composting toilet. This is a great place for children, bikers, swimmers, hikers or anyone who just wants to get away from it all for a few days. There are many lovely hikes, one of which takes you to a pond you can swim in. You can also hike up in the woods behind the yurt. Newfane village is one of the most picturesque villages in Vermont, with a courthouse on the green. There are two restaurants in Newfane, two coffee shops, a flea market on Sundays, and a great antique store. We are close to Brattleboro, home to one of the best coops in the northeast, as well as many fun stores and an art museum. Please come visit us!Bring no sleeping bags; pack no coolers, this yurt has everything you need for easy glamping. You will sleep in a four poster bed and awaken to birdsong. Glamourous camping, nestled in a shady spot near babbling brooks, on a working farm. Cross the hanging bridge to visit the farm animals. Hike the trails, swim in the brook, walk the beautiful dirt roads around us. Please be aware there is no electricity.

    Generated from real Hipcamper reviews

The campsite offers a peaceful and rustic experience, perfect for those looking to disconnect and enjoy nature. While many guests found the yurt comfortable and appreciated the quiet, some noted issues with trail maintenance and misleading descriptions of amenities. The off-grid setup was both a charm and a challenge, with some expecting more conveniences. Overall, the setting is ideal for those who enjoy simple pleasures and don't mind a bit of rustic living.

I went to stay on Johanna’s land with my niece and her son. Myself and my great nephew were new to camping so this was a good place to start. The yurt was in a peaceful area and had everything we needed for the long weekend. The town of Newfane is so cute. There were 2 swimming areas on the river with easy access and a nice waterfall close by. Brattleboro was within a 20 minute drive for a bit of shopping and snacking. Everyone enjoyed the stay!

    It was okay

Staying at the yurt was a nice time, though I wish I had known a few things before coming: - to empty your compost toilet bucket, you will walk quite a bit with the last part through a very overgrown pathway. It was filled with ticks. I pulled 4-7 off after emptying the bucket each day. It needs to be trimmed back, so bring permethrin treated clothes with long sleeves and pants. - it is not as isolated as it looks. We heard music from houses every day, as well as fast cars on the road. - there is no electricity (which I think is noted in the listing), though the photos on here show it with plugged in, working lamps beside the bed. Those lamps were not there. - the doorways are protected by the cheap $5 mesh magnet things. You are told not to use the front of the yurt (the easier side to access). The mesh cover on the back door was installed improperly such that the magnets don’t overlap / close correctly. You have to shut the door which makes the yurt hot. - Patio furniture is really dirty and the lounger was broken/unusable. - Didn’t provide a top sheet on the bed, hoping the comforter is washed regularly.

I've wanted to live in a yurt for quite awhile and this gave me my first taste. Being completely off grid was an interesting but not a bad experience at all. The yurt was cozy and comfortable. Johanna was an awesone host. The plumbing needed work for the shower & she offered us the use of their own in the house. A nice & quiet retreat. I would go back again.
