Why buy a home when you can build a fairy-tale? Hi, I'm Curt. My wife Ani, son Fitch, and I are your average, everyday nonconformists who have been running an experiment. We are trying to figure out if a family can use their own hands and some grit to handcraft a life that you don't need a vacation from. Or better yet, that you would vacation to. Have we done that? You be the judge. Years ago we left our Miami handcrafted furniture business to pursue this new goal. We set out to build an inspiring experience in simple, eco-friendly living that would find a harmony between the helpful aspects of the modern world and the good parts of the old, that maybe society should have held tight to. We wanted to play with this idea...while keeping it classy ;-) At Heirloom Hamlet, you will see us designing unique, functional cottages, using solar energy, composting organics, sewing and reaping, in a way that is fair to our environment. We're bread baking, pasta making, timber milling, woodworking, clay-forming and metal pounding. The goal is to evolve into a small world of self-reliance and harmony with nature. Through good design, our goal is to show just how "normal" slow, simple living can feel. We all have personal priorities, and those will vary greatly. But within that, we can all include ways of being respectfully mindful to the earth and to our neighbors. Visiting with us, we sure hope our guests don't expect to find a corporate approach to life here, that they can appreciate our perspectives and some of our old-fashioned ways. Our presentation at Heirloom Hamlet has been purposefully designed to be a refreshing hideaway from the norm. You can imagine, it has been a ton of work, sacrifice and expense to create a very special camp atmosphere. Any donation to show appreciation for its use, if even for a single night, is a valuable support to our efforts. *** Special Note: Heirloom has one full-hookup site for medium sized setups, that we use for long term month-to-month stays. Heirloom is our home, so we are judicious in determining that the guests that stay there are a good match for us and them. If you're interested, feel free to reach out. Our priority was to have a calm lifestyle with clarity, and in a unique space. We were willing to work. We were willing to sacrifice. We weren't willing to compromise. That's it. We don't think we are special. We don't think we are smart. We do think we are alert and maybe feel a certain sense of courage and toughness. So we try to lean into that. Our approach to shutting off the noise so we can hear our own voice is probably not worth hearing much more about. That said, never hesitate to ask or share. We enjoy rubbing shoulders with like-minded people. Also good to know: Heirloom is definitely not a traditional campground, or a campground at all. It is first and foremost our home. We try to be personable and interact warmly, like the good old days, as they say. Some prefer the more public, businesslike approach to camping, and that is totally understandable. Here, though, we try to maintain a different vibe. If you don't think that our unique lifestyle is for you, that will not hurt our feelings, but it would probably be best to book a stay at a commercial campground. If something quaint and different is right up your alley, we look forward to meeting and hosting you as a small part of your journey. Heirloom is not a place for absolute solitude. Being a few minutes from the most traversed interstate in the US is not what we'd call remote. Remember, we were aiming for balance in our design. We are in a quaint wooded area, but there are still planes, trains and automobiles. Keep in mind when booking at our hamlet, that you are prioritizing creativity, convenience and accessibility, not seclusion. Dogs are especially welcome. Mark Twain once said, "The more I learn about people, the more I like my dog." I think we all know what he meant. There are fire ants in the south. To avoid their sting and any other sharp objects, everyone, especially small children, need to wear shoes at all times. We are still actively building, but I don't want you to hesitate to wander the land and check things out for yourself. Take pictures of whatever you like. I don’t think that we typically make too much racket while working, but I apologize in advance if we do…it would probably have been my fault. Often our activities are pretty neat to witness. Our Bath House is a creatively designed, pleasant outdoor shower and custom eco-toilet. We're famous for it. It is high tech for a dry toilet, but a dry toilet non-the-less. Remember, for us, it is important that we are good to our environment. However, if non-traditional is just not for you, that's okay. But it may be best to find yourself a regular old campground with a regular old public restroom. Your friend, Curt Speaking of that... The way a separating toilet works is an impressive, pleasant experience, if you can say that about... that. Solids and liquids are separated, so sewage is never formed. The liquids end up feeding the landscape and solids go to a compost where it breaks down into an organic fertilizer for healthy soil and plants. We all should be doing our best to work with nature in our own unique circumstances, and this is ours. Some people are not interested in learning new tricks, and they have that right. We understand. If you aren't sure that you can temporarily embrace using a classy, well thought-out dry toilet, it may be best to stay elsewhere. But, the main point is this: Males must sit to pee. It is a MUST. Remember, there is no water in the toilet. If a man stands, all that liquid collides with plastic. Then it becomes a yellow micro-explosion, literally everywhere. It is not about aim, skills or talent. He would only be there for 30 SECONDS, and leave feeling pretty good about himself. Then, because I like nice things, I would have to personally go in after him and spend 30 MINUTES on my hands and knees disinfecting every inch of the entire room. Incidentally, this is exactly the same thing his mother, girlfriend and/or wife has been doing for him for perhaps decades, allowing the guy to live in oblivion. The difference is, I am not their mom, girlfriend or wife. I am a pretty cool guy that lives by the Golden Rule. That's why I try to make everything so attractive and clean, because it is the way I would want things to be. Nobody likes port-o-potties. Please don’t turn our Bath House into one. Sit. It's clean. If any male is looking for camping accommodations, but is way too awesome and macho to sit to pee, or is just super lazy by nature and will most likely not sit to pee, Heirloom is most definitely not their place. There is no need to book a stay here. I’m confident you will be much happier elsewhere. I should add that dudes CAN sometimes pee standing up here. In the woods. On a tree. Seriously though, I promise, you won't have a crappy experience ;-) We look forward to meeting you.

Henry David Thoreau was not a hermit. He was terrified of reaching the end of his life only to learn that he'd spent nearly his entire experience on autopilot. Could many of us be doing just that? We have created our version of Walden Cottage with this same thought in mind. What is it like to have comfortable enough quarters, but only the bare necessities? Well, maybe a few eco-friendly extras. I mean, c'mon, it is 2026. "Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity," Thoreau famously wrote. Walden Cottage is a break from the traditional comfort driven design, with a memorable experience as the goal. Start a fire in the small wood stove for warmth. Move natural air for cool. Climb into the loft to rest. Even test your toughness and journey outdoors and into the screened lanai to use the washroom and water closet. Walden may not push your very limits, but it certainly will be a non-traditional living experience, in this day and age, that will teach you something about yourself and share what it would feel like to live another way. We spent this past weekend at Heirloom Hamlet celebrating my wife birthday, and it ended up being one of those stays you don’t forget. Curt and Ani have created something truly special here. The cottage is entirely custom-built, and you can feel the time, care, and intention that went into every detail. It’s not just a place to stay, it reflects a year of hands-on work and passion, and it shows in the craftsmanship and overall feel. One of the most thoughtful touches was walking into the cottage and finding a birthday cake waiting for my wife. We didn’t expect it at all, and it says a lot about the kind of hosts they are. The property itself feels like a quiet little bird sanctuary. Free-range chickens wandering around, constant songbirds in the background, it honestly felt like a bird haven tucked into the coastal pines and oaks. There’s also a massive 200+ year old live oak right in the center of the property that really stands out. It has a presence to it and ended up being one of our favorite parts of the whole place. The design of the cottage strikes a great balance, custom and modern, but still warm and grounded in the setting. Nothing feels generic. If you’re looking for something unique, peaceful, and built with real intention behind it, this place delivers. We’ll definitely be back!

Sing Birds, Flowers, and Stars!!

We were traveling with our 5 year old son in our truck camper and our water system wasn’t working so we stayed at Curt’s place in a simple site with a picnic table and fire ring. The sites are all close to the restroom and shower so it wasn’t very convenient. There were some camper vans and folks staying in the cabins but it was very quiet. The outdoor shower was awesome and Curt and his family have done a great job of building everything from scratch. He met us at our site and showed us how to use everything. The birds were singing and we saw lots of stars that night! Thank you Curt and family!!

Heirloom Hamlet is the perfect camping spot. Curt was very nice and gave us a tour of all the amenities. The bathhouse is a major plus. We loved the peace and quiet of the area, as well as the privacy of our campsite. Highly recommended staying here!

Heirloom Hamlet is an absolute gem. I camped with no hookups, so the availability of the composting toilet (one of the nicest installations i've ever used), sink and shower (hot and cold luxury!) was great! Really enjoyed my conversations with Curt. Would absolutely recommend! I'll be back in the fall!

This "camp site" is in the middle of a dense residential area right next to a busy road. Definitely oversold. Maybe the cabins are better? Thankfully I only needed a place to sleep for the night, but if you are looking for an outdoor getaway, I'd skip this one.

We had a great experience and highly recommend camping here. Curt was very responsive and helpful, and he sent clear instructions before our arrival. We arrived after dark, and he personally came over to help us get oriented to the property and its amenities. He has done an incredible job. Every detail is not only well executed but truly artistic. Curt clearly cares about the experience and goes above and beyond with his hospitality. For context, I spend over 100 nights a year in my camper van and have stayed in many places, and this was one of the best experiences we’ve had. Final word: great value and well worth the price

Curt and wife have really got the focus on what they enjoy. Back to nature. Building a property that they can really enjoy. The property really shows their background in furniture design and building. Loved the bath house/ toilet he built . The free range chickens and the solar panel areas were a great design feature. Curt clearly has a clear vision of what makes them happy. Good location from I 95.

Our stay at Heirloom Hamlet was nothing short of picturesque, morning fog coming up through the trees and an incredible old oak at the center. Our timing did not allow us to fully enjoy the property but that tiny bit we saw will definitely have us coming back. The dog has decided that this is her new favorite place and did not want to leave. The Small Bathhouse has some really nice touches that really showcase how much Curt and his family value hosting as well as creating a very eco-concious space that reminds us of the importance of all doing our part. One thing we do know- this may not be right for some folks and that’s ok, but definitely a place that we will visit again.

Loved this stay, it's a very cute homestead with a peaceful small town vibe. Nice amenities available like a bathhouse with an outdoor shower and a sauna. We enjoyed having the electricity and the water hookup and the space was a pull through. The stars there are beautiful too at night! Thanks Curt.

We love Heirloom Hamlet and return often. A really nice little spot, close to I-95 for camping with or without hookups. The non-hookup spot is especially private. Firewood is supplied, and the public pinecone fire pit is a real treat! Curt is a very welcoming host!

We wished we got there a bit earlier to explore more. This is Lia I am 9 years old it was the first time I experienced a compost toilet and I thought it was good for the environment it was a bit challenging to use at first but when you get used to it it’s awesome. In the morning I got to spilt wood in half with a hatchet ! Kurt our host was super nice, very knowledgeable and did an amazing job at building his homestead. my seven-year-old brother did not want to get out of the outdoor shower because it was amazingly hot. We had an outstanding experience.

Curt’s property was perfect for my needs. He was very accommodating in showing me around and making me feel welcomed! I had a rooftop tent and a my dog Salem. The site was perfect for Salem and level for the car. I would highly recommend this location especially if you are interested in traveling to Savannah which is only about a 30 min drive.
