Footbridge Haven Farm

2 sites · Tents25 acres · Mt Pleasant, PA
My wife and I and our four children moved to this 25 acre farm in 2017, and the creek and adjoining Mammoth Park soon became our favorite spots to relax. Our two boys swim and fish in the holes, while the girls enjoy picking flowers and making "houses" among the trees. We also love hosting friends and family for cookouts, or spending a Sunday afternoon in the cool shade beside the creek. On our 15 acres of pasture land, we raise chickens, pigs, a few dairy cows, and some steers. We are not a certified organic farm, but we raise our animals on pasture grass as much as possible, without chemicals or synthetic fertilizers. The Mammoth Park, which adjoins our property, features a 20-acre lake, a new 9-hole disc golf course, walking trails, pavilions, ball fields, a giants slide, RC airstrip, and more. We'd love to share our favorite spots with you! Learn more about this land: Relax to the sound of the babbling brook, stroll through woods and pastures, cool off in the stream, or join us for an outdoor milking experience. Take a hike, catch a sunset view, firsh or throw a round of disc golf at the beautiful Westmoreland County Mammoth Park.  Our 25-acre farm is located at the base of the Chestnut Ridge in the Laurel Highlands, beside the Westmoreland County Mammoth Park. Our camp site features a pavilion, fire place with a grill, fire ring, and swings, all beside the beautiful, clear waters of the Welty Run. You can park at our buildings and walk to your site, or park at the site. Small campers are allowed with 4x4 vehicles. Nearby attractions include golf courses, state parks in the Laurel Highlands, Frank Lloyd Wright houses, caverns, and white water rafting. Or, schedule your stay around our local events like the Westmoreland County Airshow, Westmoreland County Fair, or the one-of-a-kind Kecksburg UFO festival. Whether you're looking for a beautiful, relaxing retreat, or a base camp for exploring the Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania, we look forward to hosting you at the Footbridge Haven Campsite. Directions: On Blacksmith Road off of Rt 982, you will pass our house (715) on the left, with 2 driveways.  Go past both driveways, and you will see a pasture fence on your left.  Continue to the end of the fence.  There, turn left between the telephone pole and the corner of the fence.  There is an opening in the trees, leading to the site.  There is a picture of the entrance in the pictures.

Burnhead Grazings

3 sites · Lodging, Tents68 acres · Indiana , PA
The rich history of Burnhead Grazings is enveloped in a love for God's creation. Dr. Gib and Emmy Lou McLaughlin purchased Burnhead, which is Gaelic for the head of the stream, from William H. Stevens. The once pasture for Hilltop Dairy's cows became a pasture for sheep. Gib and Emmy had been in search of land for years after getting their first border collie and falling in love with the Shepherd lifestyle. Gib trained dozens of border collies to work the sheep and did hundreds of demonstrations highlighting the herding abilities of the collie across the country. Their love for Scotland and the border collie took them Scotland on many occasions. Burnhead Grazings is a snapshot of Scotland, "in bye" or close to, the beautiful college town of Indiana, PA. Less than two miles from two hotels, three miles from downtown, and within minutes from Amish country, it is amazing that this respite still exists so close to civilization. Gib and Emmy's daughter, Moire McLaughlin Bridges and her husband Randy have endeavored to bring the sheep back to Burnhead Grazings and to continue the family tradition as well as to share in the experience. You can listen to an interview on The Christian Witness Program on this page for some history about Moire and Randy in Tennessee where they were residing before coming to Indiana. They are producing lamb, wool for spinning and felting, and hay and are opening up the farm for small events such as weddings or family reunions. Moire is also the author and illustrator of a children's book available for sale on iBooks called Sissy & The King. In November of 2014, with the help of Hilltop Baptist Church and many others, they began hosting an event, LIFE Nativity, the weekend before Thanksgiving, which benefits Life-Way Pregnancy Center. Moire is also a fine artist and gives classes on wool felting. Ask about signing up for a class or book a private felting party.

All Ferns Most of the Time

1 site · Tent20 acres · Rockwood, PA
This spot is best for a van camp location but plenty of space for tents and hammocks. You'll find a drive-up deck if you wish to park there. Firewood is available providing you use downfalls as kindling in the stone fire pit. A 8x20' deck and picnic table are 20 feet from the fire for stargazing. When the ferns are full grown they are 3 feet tall and everywhere. A 10 minute walk takes you through a dense pine forest with large rock formations and a nice creek with many gurgling fall areas. If there looks like a cave amongst the large rocks, then it probably is a bear den. There is a lot to do near by. Some note worthy locations : Cranberry Glade Lake (good for kayaking or fishing), Ohiopyle, 7 Springs, Fallingwater, Living Treasures, Caddie Shak, and Hidden Valley are all about 25 minutes away. This property also borders Laurel Ridge State Park. There is a Dollar General and a gas station about 15 minutes away for convenience needs.

Tent camping along the Yough river.

10 sites · RVs, Tents10 acres · Perryopolis, PA
READ BEFORE BOOKING. WE STRICTLY ENFORCE ALL RULES. YOU MUST ADHERE TO ALL RULES OR YOU WILL BE REMOVED FORM PROPERTY BY STATE POLICE. All the sites are located with in walking distance next to the famed boat rental Hazelbakers! Our sites are on or near the Yough Riverbank. Although the train runs near by a few times a day, it will hardly be noticed while you are enjoying the beauty of the area. The Allegheny Passage bike trail runs nearby across the river. You can access it using the Layton bridge that crosses the river over our property. We have a very strict no asshole policy. If you are an asshole or plan to bring an asshole with you please go camp at the KOA. Camping is not an all night or two day tailgate party, hooping it up, drinking or doing drugs all night on your weekend off with 20 of your friends. Camping at our sites should be calm and relaxing. Other campers and people in general should not have to hear you, your music, or your fun and you should not have to hear theres. We have a strict no generator rule, no guns, no fire works, no amplified or loud music and again no assholes. Your neighbor may not like your music. If you must listen to music use head phones. Please do not leave any thing at the site when leaving and leave it better than you found it. The boat rental store sales snacks, ice and bait. It does not sell wood or large water bottles. Campers should bring water. We do not have showers but do have running hot and cold water in the change rooms at the boat rental. Port-a-pottys are near by. Please use them. Do not poop in the woods and leave your shit paper laying there. That's gross.

Avalanche Adventrues-1

3 sites · RVs, Tents700 acres · Robinson, PA
We are ultimately seeking individuals who enjoy the primitive camping experience and want a place to themselves and away from the typical camping crowd.   To that end, we are offering one or longer lease agreements with costs ranging from $80 to $130 per month.    Our current site is located along the Conemaugh River about 10 miles from the town of Blairsville, PA. This area was very heavily mined from the mid 1800's through the 1940's. Much of the land was left in ruin. Over the last 20 years, efforts have been made to reclaim and reforest the properties and create man-made wetlands to purify the orange acidic water leaching from the former mining works. Hidden along the stream that parallels Reynolds Road, West Wheatfield Township, Indiana County, are the remains of small dams and other structures that were once part of a bustling economy. Reclamation efforts include a new flow channel and concrete bridge where vegetation has successfully been reestablished and the water is now clean. The view from on top of Fort Hill is just fabulous. And, on any given day one can hear the call of red tailed hawks as they glide in the winds above the valley floor. Hiking on an abandoned mining road or timber road will lead you to Roaring Run which also borders a state game lands property. This stream boasts one of the nicest water falls in the area. A short distance from the water falls, the stream meets the Conemaugh River after flowing under the Norfolk Southern Railroad. Do not trespass on railroad property or their right-of-way.! You can expect to encounter snakes....rattlesnakes and copperheads are in this area and are dangerous. We also have properties about 15 miles north of I-80 located in Clearfield County. This location is the grazing and breading home to the 2nd largest herd of Elk in Pennsylvania and the east coast of the US.   These sites will be available soon.  That said, hunting is strictly prohibited on any of our properties.  No exceptions.!We also partner with local establishments who can offer basic food and supplies, excellent dining, and lodging experiences for small and large groups.   We do not earn or receive any commissions from any of our partners;  We simply ask that you consider patronizing their businesses in a civil manner.Learn more about this land:This area was very heavily mined from the mid 1800's through the 1940's. The best camping near Keystone State Park guide

Overview

About

When you need a break from city life, this park provides an idyllic oasis. Located in Derry Township, this 1,200-acre park offers swimming, boating, and multiple hiking trails. In spring, the flora and fauna are visual treats, from colorful wildflowers to migrating birds.

Boaters with a launching permit can put in at the north shore. Boats and canoes are available for rental near the main launch. Fishing is open year-round, with trout and largemouth bass among the favorite catches.

A sandy beach borders the swimming area, which is open Memorial Day to Labor Day. Plan a cookout in a covered pavilion, or grab munchies at the concession. In winter, you can ice skate on the lake or cross-country ski on the trails.

Two campgrounds offer about 100 ADA accessible sites, some with electric hookups. Modern cabins with full kitchens sleep up to six and are located near the dam. More rustic overnight accommodations include three camping cottages and two yurts with cooking facilities.

When to go

The ideal time to visit Keystone State Park is during the spring and fall when the weather is mild and the natural scenery is at its peak. Summer offers a full bloom of activities, but also brings crowds. Winters can be harsh, making some areas less accessible.

  • Wear appropriate footwear and clothing for hiking and outdoor activities.
  • Remember to pack out all your trash and respect wildlife habitats.
  • Cell service may be limited, so plan accordingly.
