Warriors o' Rainbow Horse Sanctuary

3 sites ¡ RVs, Tents16 acres ¡ Reeds, MO
The pasture is quite visible from Old Route 66, nearly adjoining it. Therefore people travelling “the Mother Road” find it quite convenient to stay with us. Grass is the best forage for horses, especially older ones, so we take meticulous care of our pastures, so it is usually very beautiful scenery for campers, too. Plus the entire back half mile is bordered by old forest. And there is a swimming hole not a half mile away.Learn more about this land:This is quite a quiet and private site, bordered by a neighbor's old forest on back, other neighbor's cattle pasture on side, and you're in one of the pastures used by the Horse Sanctuary. (You are camping about 1/4 mile, more or less, from our house.) We regularly see coyote, wild turkeys, deer, fireflies, and the like.  We are just 1/2 mile off Old Route 66, therefore there are quirky little museums and great restaurants (for such a rural area!).  Plus we are only about an hour's drive from Branson. MO. which is a known tourist attraction.

The best camping near George Washington Carver National Monument guide

Overview

About

Walk through the life of George Washington Carver as you visit his childhood home in this National Monument. You're likely to be astonished as you realize how talented this man was. He practiced art and music as well as botany. It's even more astonishing when you begin to realize the adversity and racial prejudices he faced on his journey, even being insulted by Congress. Start with the short film to orient yourself to Carver's life, then dive deeper with a self-guided tour. You won't believe how many uses this brilliant man found for peanuts!

A nice hiking trail around the monument lets you enjoy the gardens, see the Moses Carver house and enjoy a picnic on the nicely shaded tables. Yes, you can take your dogs on the hike.

The Rangers are helpful, and you can get drinks at the Visitor Center. If you want a bite to eat, though, you'll have to head back to Joplin or Carthage (or use those picnic tables). This spot is a must-visit for school kids, especially if you can time it for when they're studying Carver in class.

Hipcamp can help you find a wide range of camping spots south of Joplin. Pitch your tent by the side of a pond or spring, plug in your RV at a farm or winery, or opt for a cozy cabin in the woods.
