Gunnison National Forest
Beautiful panoramic views and pristine meadows abound here in postcard country.
Encompassing over a million acres of public land, this national forest touches five Colorado counties. As you'd expect from such an enormous tract of land, there's plenty to see here! This area is so large that you might even come across undiscovered Native American ruins.
If conquering tough peaks is your thing, you'll find a number of challenges here. This forest borders the Rockies and hosts over 20 mountains over 13,000 feet. Come through in the fall months for especially breathtaking views as its aspen trees turn.
Prefer riding to walking? This region offers a wide array of trails perfect for mountain biking. Teocalli Ridge and Doctor Park are notoriously rugged but rewarding routes. If you're looking for a less strenuous option, swing by Strand Hill.
