Dolly Sods is magical. The Red Creek campground is a convenient place to spend the night before starting an early morning backpacking trip. The campground contains several secluded and well vegetated sites but they are first come first serve. Site 1 is very exposed. We were baking in the July afternoon sun but were grateful to have snagged the last site on a holiday weekend. In the summer the days are warm but the nights are cold due to the higher elevation. There are an endless number of trails available in the Dolly Sods area.

Sunrise vista across the road from the campground.Site 1. Lucky to grab this site late in the afternoon on a holiday weekend. This site is very exposed and gets toasty in the sun. There are better sites if you arrive early. Blackbird Knob Trail near the Red Creek CampgroundRed Creek Campground
