Primitive camping surrounded by 35 acres of big trees and rocks. Secluded spots with level, cleared areas are available for tent campers and recreational vehicles. Park near main road and camp close to your vehicle. Or park and pack down deeper into the woods for a wilderness adventure. The property has sloped and shelved areas. Chose your spot. We book one group at a time, to provide a private camping experience. Sky-Flyer Special First driveway at the galvanized farm gate. Watch for a painted shipping container and vintage van. Vehicles of 30’ will fit here. Additional parking available on both sides of the driveway. This is a lighted area with a fire ring and some seating. The RV House Second and third driveway is a pull through with small green gates. Long vehicles may easily enter and exit here. Several choices for parking, including one under shelter. Here is a covered deck, grill and fireplace. The Rusty Gate Last entrance to the west. This drive can accommodate vehicles of 40' or less. Here is a fire ring, some outdoor seating and several flat areas for tents. When requesting a stay, let us know what kind of experience you are looking for, so we may accommodate you. Nearby attractions and amenities: 4 miles to Lake Talihina and Carl Albert 5 miles to town with local shopping Farmers market, restaurants, and bar. Laundry, banking, library and hospital. The Talimena National Scenic Byway begins at Talihina. There is also a year round visitor center located within the Chamber of Commerce. The Winding Stair Mountain National Recreation Area and the Ouachita National Recreation Area offers a 45-mile section of trail providing for diverse hiking opportunities. This 55 acre park is home of a large sandstone that contains 8 markings believed to have been made by Vikings many years ago. The park features a seasonal waterfall, covered picnic areas, playground, amphitheater with seating, community building, scenic views, gift shop and approximately 2 miles of nature trails. Be advised that most tent sites have a tent pad but a few are primitive mountain terrain (rocky). The one RV site is for 16 ft. or less vehicles and smaller teardrop trailers with limited hook-up and no dump station. Restroom and shower facilities are located within the park. Individual campsites DO NOT have onsite toilets. Forest setting while still close to stores in case of forgotten items. Variety of small wildlife in the area. Our intimate campground features spacious pull-through sites starting at 40x60 feet, complete with full hookups, eliminating the hassle of waste disposal upon departure. The pavilion provides breathtaking views of the lake and mountains. It features an open area measuring 30x30 feet, complete with a full kitchen and two bathrooms. The surrounding space affords a private setting. A great place for events including weddings, family reunions and more intimate gatherings. The tiny cabin is rustic but functional. Although there is no kitchen, it has a coffee maker, microwave and mini fridge. The shower is small and can only be used for quick showers. However, the environment and views make the spot great for relaxing and enjoying nature.

We enjoyed our stop at Heavener Runestone Park. The terrain is hilly and scenic. Our highlight was watching the sun set from the scenic overlook. The amenities are a bit faded, but functional. This was a comfortable place to spend the night on our way south. It was fun to learn about this odd bit of history, too!

Although we did not get to stay at her place in the end, which was entirely on our end, we do plan on doing so in the future. Site location was level, easy to get to and a quick walk down to the lake, we were sad to only be there one day because it would have been nice to spend more time at the water. On a related note as a one night stay this totally worked for our rv, but the hook ups a very spread out, so a longer term stay will need to have extra hose or do some jockeying around.

Weekend Trip to Heavener Runestone Park

It was raining and cold when we camped but we still had an incredible experience. The location is absolutely breathtaking, surrounded by forests and stunning mountain views. The campsites are well-maintained, with fire rings, clean facilities and plenty of space to set up camp. The peaceful atmosphere made it the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We enjoyed hiking nearby trails, as well as down to the runestone. The lady at the visitor center/gift shop was friendly and helpful, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this spot for anyone looking to reconnect with nature and enjoy a peaceful getaway!

But it was a beautiful place with an amazing view. It's still a bit of a work in progress, but I'm excited to see when it's all done. Me and Vincent very much enjoyed our stay. 😊😊

Jeana is an awesome host. The camping spot is a wooded mountainside with plenty of room to explore and roam. The dogs loved it and we had a great time! There's a cabin and established RV spot being built on the land.

Talimena Campground

DO NOT use 'HipCamp" for any camping reservations! The site says at the footer "Not instantly boom able on HipCamp. First come first serve." We read that as no reservations available, first come first serve. After driving for a day, arriving, setting up camp we were kicked off our lot and told it was reserved and paid for months ago. The office says this site is not related to theirs, if they can not assist in booking then they should not list it. Thanks for screwing up my trip HipCamp!
