Fisher's Peak Ranch is a private community with 2 access gates. The rental camp site is approximately 3 miles into the ranch from the gate. The first 2 miles are well maintained ranch roads, with the last leg climbing up to the top of my 35 acre ranch. Most of the year the road is fine, but heavy snow or rain has required a 4 wheel drive at times.
You'll be overlooking the city of Trinidad, with an extremely stunning view of Fisher's Peak. Enjoy complete privacy as the site is on the end of a dedicated road.
From the camp site, you'll be looking down at Simpsons Rest and the entire city of Trinidad. To the south, you can see parts of Raton Pass. Watch the clouds light up with the sunsets. You'll be taking lots of pictures, everyone does.

As the Scenic Passenger Train is heard in the distance you'll look up towards Mount Blanca and imagine your next adventure living among the wildflowers of this High Desert Mountain Hipcamp. After recovering from a wildfire, the ancient sage brushes that had previously made the land harsh and unwelcoming are nearly gone, replaced with an abundance of grasses and wildflowers if blessed with rains. Open Land as far as you can go to the East you'll follow the Coyote canyon to high mountain lookouts. There are old logging maintenance roads you could take advantage of, so Hike, Bike or Motor around the local area. Fort Garland and Blanca have a community center (pool), septic dump and water fill and can provide groceries. The Great Sand dunes are about 45 minutes away. The Sand Dunes swimming pool, fed by a very hot artisan well is about an hour away. Mountain Home Lake is also within 1/2 an hour or so for fishing/water sports with a nice boat ramp. Escape from light pollution like never before, a clear night sky will make the whole trip worthwhile! Lots of wild life and you will most likely see some deer, hear the coyotes, and count the different colors of the humming birds. You can book a train ride out of Alamosa, and visit the local historic towns. The views will make it hard to leave the campsite, but there are tons of experiences and things to do in the area so make sure to do some research before you arrive. The weather and wind can be unpredictable in the mountains, so be prepared. There are two entrances onto the property, one at the bottom and one at the top. You can avoid some wind by camping near Lewis-Smith Rd at the lowest part of the land. Also, the site can accommodate large trailers/RV's but just make sure to plan your entrance/exit carefully and don't go to far down the hills. Just choose a wise spot to park if in a big rig. There are some small tires around that you can use to sit on or if you dig a hole that you fill in before leaving you can make a temporary toilet. Make sure to haul out all your trash and leave the site cleaner than it was when you arrived and respect the land. If you do come across a mess from the previous camper and clean it up, just let us know and we will give you a refund for the night. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

I was lucky to be able explore this zone as a kid and I feel fortunate that I can share Mono Loco Flats with others.
Set up camp and enjoy sweeping views of Mount Blanca and the surrounding Sangre De Cristo mountain range. This 15 acre camp is situated just off highway 160 for easy access, approximately 25 minutes from The Great Sand Dunes National park and Zapata Falls. Mono Loco Flats is an excellent home base for exploring the San Luis Valley. Sangre de Cristo Creek is a short hike or drive to the south. Fort Garland is a 10-minute drive.
All three sites provide 360 panoramic views with epic sunrise and sunset views of Mount Blanca. Wild horses and prong horned antelope may wander the Mesa as you enjoy your camp. The natural beauty of these three campsites is worth protecting so please if you pack it in, pack it out. This is a dry camp with no toilet or garbage facilities. Please treat this land with respect so that future campers may enjoy the land free of rubbish. All three campsites are accessible with any type of vehicle, and the long driveway and turnaround can accommodate any trailer or RV up to 20'. Other vehicles may need to slow down and take it easy through some potentially rough areas.

Cedar Hills Oliva Ranch is a 105-acre ranch with nine 11.6-acre campsites, each of them on beautiful and varying heights and terrain, with a secluded feel as each is located out of view from the other campsites. They are excellent for "primitive" camping year-round, and comprise wildlife (deer, elk, bear, hawks, antelope, etc.), grassy meadows, cedar-covered hills both gradual and steep, sandstone rock formations, seasonal white sand arroyos, and the occasional cattle wandering through. Because of its southern Colorado geography, snow typically does not accumulate deeper than 3"-4", even in the deepest winter months, so it makes camping just as easy and pleasant from November through March.
Each campsite has its own character and unique views of nature, so nine camping trips on each of our sites will feel different from the previous adventure, each presenting a distinctly intimate feel.
Additionally, a great benefit of Cedar Hills Oliva Ranch is while campers may enjoy deafening silence and see every star in the Milky Way Galaxy on a clear night, just 10 minutes from the ranch south on CR 69 lies a 24-hour gas station and three fast food restaurants. From there, another 5 minutes south, is the historic town of Walsenburg, where you may find expanded restaurant choices, a Safeway, and hardware store for other provisions - and more!
In case of a "medical mishap," Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center is approximately 18 minutes from any of our campsites, and open 24 hours.
Lastly, while not visible from the ranch, a new cell tower was erected approximately 2 miles northeast and is very reliable from anywhere on the ranch when having a clear view of the eastern horizon.
We look forward to hosting you and your fellow campers at Cedar Hills Oliva Ranch. It is beautiful, private and secluded, and provides a great environment for all ages and levels of spirit. This is a beautiful 10 acre campground away from everything. There are 2 spots to camp with tank water and sewer hookup. Only 12 ft and under trailers are allowed due to space constraints. There is hunting allowed and 4000 acres of BLM land behind this property. 4WD is recommended but we have made it up during warmer months with 2WD. Camp at your own risk, there is wildlife about and steep cliffs. There is also a 1.5 mi walking trail. This area is not managed regularly. If you are unable to make it due to washouts, etc. your money will be refunded. Phone service is spotty. You must take all trash with you. If you like to be away from it all, THIS IS FOR YOU. You won't see more than 1 other cars per day. Lock code for water is 1627.

Very quiet, peaceful location with full hook-ups! Hosts are very responsive and helpful. I would add that spot 1 faces this one (spot 2) and they share the central area, but it currently holds an unoccupied camper trailer so there were no others at the camp site when we were there.

What a lovely spot -- burbling creek and tall stands of trees for privacy. You can just see the tip of West Spanish Peak over the near ridge... the evening alpenglow is amazing. Access in/out is super easy and there are lots of woodchips down to minimize dirt/mud and keep the campervan clean. We'll be back!

This is a lovely spot that we had all to our selves. We parked our trailer near the river and could listen to it all night long. This was a convenient location to both Curchara (2 miles) and La Veta (9 miles), plus all of the hiking trails and lakes in the surrounding national forest. I'm sure we will be coming back.

Beautiful and spacious site. It is close to the highway making access easy, especially if you have a large rig (we camped with a 28’ fifth wheel and 16’ trailer and had PLENTY of space). River runs next to site. Trees and brush surrounding, making it private with great views. Close to La Veta and Cuchara. Cows might greet you from the neighboring pasture!

This was our second stay at Lone Spruce Camp, and it’s quickly becoming our favorite Colorado getaway! The camp is easy to access with plenty of level spots to set up, and the views are absolutely breathtaking. The host is extremely kind and helpful, which makes the experience even better. The Lone Spruce was hands-down one of the easiest Hipcamp sites we’ve ever found—great layout, spotless, and super welcoming. The host was amazing (I’m still not convinced she didn’t secretly train the wildlife to show up on cue just for our review).
Night one: my wife and I are sitting down to dinner when I glance out the camper window and—casual as can be—a bear strolls by on the other side of the river. Later that evening, while enjoying a gorgeous sunset, two giant bucks wandered through the site like they were auditioning for a nature documentary. Not to be outdone, the second night a parade of turkeys marched across the river as if they were in on the whole thing.
We left with full bellies, full camera rolls, and full hearts. The Lone Spruce isn’t just a campsite—it’s a front-row ticket to the wildlife channel, minus the commercials. We’ll definitely be back, and if you’re lucky, maybe the host will “release the animals” on schedule for you too. Highly recommended!

This spot is so beautiful! It is on the river, sleeping with the windows open listening to the water was incredibly relaxing. The owners were very friendly and responsive. We were there on the 4th of July and we had the place to ourselves. The highway of legends, on which the site is, is a journey everyone should take!

This is a beautiful spot! Really an amazing place to basecamp. Churaha is an amazing community. La Veta is also an oasis. I had no idea such an amazing place existed. We were right next to the Churaha river and had the whole place to our selves. Wow!!!

Beautiful views! Lots of spaces with tent pads but not all. Nice firepit with grill but placed closer to parking than tent pad. This place seems like it gets a lot of RV traffic.
