Swimming in North Fork Tule River, miles of hiking trails on ranch. River Ridge Ranch goes from 1,000' elev. to 3,000' elevation. Hike right on the ranch. We are between Sequoia National Park (about an hour) and the Giant Sequoia National Monument (16 miles to groves up Hwy 190 and no entrance fee).
Choose from individual tent sites, group tent sites, tiny cabins. the 5-acre Compound or the Entire Ranch.
We occasionally host small, thoughtful, low impact weddings. Please inquire.
There are 33 giant sequoia groves in our Southern Region of the Giant Sequoia National Monument, some easily driven to, and some remote. Our ranch is a nature preserve and an education demonstration site, teaching sustainable and regenerative land use practices. River Ridge Institute, our non-profit, hosts a variety of events for the public.
Please note: you are expected to leave the ranch and kitchen area as you found it, i.e., dishes washed thoroughly and dried and put away, recycling separated from trash, food scraps in compost buckets, sticky marshmallow removed from forks and surfaces (ick!). Thank you.
Enjoy: The Kitchen has a 3-burner cooktop, large fridge, microwave, full dishes and utensils and pots and pans with a big washing area in the back. Propane barbecue grill.. There's a River Barn to use as a remote space and Turtle Cove for swimming. Saturday morning Farmer's Market in downtown at 9 AM - Noon.
Ancestral land of the Foothill Yokuts tribe. Homesteaded in 1859, owned by the Negus family from 1909-2000. Barbara and I bought it to save it from subdivision and it's now protected by a Conservation Easement and acts as a community center for the arts, music, poetry, gatherings and outdoor education. We're both biologists, so, just ask us.

Relax after a long day in our jacuzzi bathtub.
Our home is 1622 sq ft with plenty of space to make yourself comfortable. As you walk into our home you will see our open living room and oversized couch. You’ll then immediately see our kitchen and dining room. Our kitchen table seats 4 and we have 2 barstools in the kitchen for the bar area. Down the hallway you’ll see our first bedroom with a Queen size bed, the laundry room, and a hallway bathroom. Then straight ahead you’ll see our master bedroom with a bathroom a walk-in closet, full bathroom with a jacuzzi bathtub. Our home does have AC/Heating by mini split units that are all new & purchased & installed in June 2022 and are maintained monthly.
We also have 2 twin folding beds that can be set up in either bedroom or the living room. Purchased August 2022 for additional sleeping.
Ring cameras are located on the outside of the property. No cameras are inside.
Enjoy a nice evening on the front patio enjoying nature.
A propane barbeque is located on the front porch.
Absolutely no smoking on the property. Wildfires are common in & around the area & Three Rivers is a very high-risk area. Three Rivers has faced evacuation warnings in both 2020 & 2021 due to local raging wildfires.

BE ADVISED - Sequoia National Park has received significantly more snow and rain than normal this year (2023), which has resulted in some damage to some roadways within the park. MAKE SURE TO REVIEW THE SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK WEBSITE FOR CURRENT PARK CONDITIONS INFORMATION PRIOR TO BOOKING.

Guest access
Parking on the premises is located 70 yards from the cabin. A wooden railing leads from the street down a path to the house.
There are two access points into the cabin; one on level ground and the other via a wooden stairwell.
During winter, with an elevation of about 6,000ft, tire-chains may be required, depending on the snow.
Drive times to nearby points are as follows:
Alta Sierra Ski Resort: 8 min
Lake Isabella (fishing and watersports): 12 min
Kernville (rafting, antique shops, bars, museum and super market): 20 min
Market and gas stations: 15 min
Kern Valley Hospital: 30 min
Kern River Health Center: 10 min
Other things to note:
Alta Sierra is a fire hazard area so bonfires and open flames are not permitted. However, if you want to have a cookout, you'll have full use of the electric grill out on the open deck. In the evenings, or during cold days, you can enjoy the crackle of logs in the woodstove, and plenty of firewood is provided for your convenience.
There are wild animals that visit the property surroundings. Enjoy them from a safe distance and be ready to take plenty of photos from a safe vantage point.

LBH inhabits a snuggly reading nook with a hanging hammock chair where you can also find some books and games. Solar energy provided outlets for standard 2 prong plugs + 3 prong plug adapters, as well as USB ports. A sweet solar shower available (bring your own water). Outdoor, patio seating (gravity chairs) plus a picnic table. You can find a Coleman 2 burner camp stove, small charcoal grill (bring your own propane and charcoal), and a brand-new propane heater (bring your own propane; 1lb).
Leave your world behind for a while and come see what this incredible experience has to offer. Whether it’s relaxing in the outdoor theater, partaking in our fun outdoor games, or snuggling up in the hammock chair with a good book, LBH has something for everyone!
Other things to note.
Very rustic cabin. No running water or trash service. We do not live nearby. In order to bring you this unique experience in this remote area, we ask that guests provide their own bedding and clean up after themselves, including packing out trash. There are no services for an hour in each direction, so please bring plenty of water and food and fill up your gas tank. There is a solar shower available for use, as well as a Coleman 2-burner gas stove, a charcoal BBQ and a brand-new propane heater for those cold nights.

My girlfriend and I really enjoyed staying at the Cottonwood cabin! It was a nice cozy space and the scenery was sooo beautiful! I got to enjoy my breakfast on a big rock by the river and it was the perfect way to start my day. The restrooms were really nice and well kept! Overall it was a super comfortable lodging experience.

This is the perfect place to relax! Truly! Ozzy and Diane are wonderful hosts, they gave me such a warm welcome. There are so many thoughtful details both inside the house and outside, I was amazed and already looking at dates for my next booking. The bed was so comfortable, I honestly didn’t want to get out of it.

Stayed here with my wife and three young kids for 4 nights. Really nice property, fully stocked house with everything you'd need. Hosts are very communicative and responsive. There is no AC, but it didn't get too bad in the house even though it was almost 100 outside. It's about 3+ hours south is the entrance to Sequoia National Park, so a big long day trip. Very close to Lake Isabella (nice for a swim, but bring some sort of shade!) and Kernville (cute town, had a great lunch at the brewery.) The house is within a little neighborhood with houses close by, so not very remote depending on what you're looking for, but worked for us.

This was the perfect cozy cottage to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary! At the base of the Sequoia National Forest, among nature and the peace quiet, we were able to Retreat + Recharge + Reconnect. Ozzy built this cottage thinking of every little comfortable he could put into it including two fans inside that my husband was so happy about! And Diane decorated the cutest cottage to feel like a home away from home <3 What a dynamic duo! We will definitely be back!! :)

It was so peaceful, quiet and beautiful! 🤩
It was a plus to have a bathroom in the cabin, it was very small but perfect for what we needed! It was nice to unplug and enjoy bonding time with my fiancé. It was also fun to cook on the fire pit and made fresh coffee every morning. We also went hiking to the Trail of 100 giants which was just a short 30min drive. We hope to stay at the squattage again soon!

A great little cabin experience. Everything was well organized and clean. Gary was super helpful. I loved that there were camp chairs down at the creek! I was glamping so I brought my own comforter and table cloth to cozy things up. A delightful stay! (Would be a great place for groups with campsites and cabins plus a large fire ring with seating and kitchen prep area with large refrigerator to store food.)

We absolutely loved hanging out at The Squattage this weekend. Ozzy puts so much love and care into the property, he really has thought of everything, it was so cozy and just what we needed. Got to meet many of the locals, everyone is so lovely. The local general store can't be missed, and you're doing yourself a disservice if you don't ask Ozzy about the local trails. 1Mil/10 I would stay here again and recommend anyone looking to get away for a while do the same and book a few nights at The Squattage. You won't regret it!

Would stay again. We arrived late at night and were plenty of spots open. There was a self pay station that was easy to use and you can pay nightly for your spot. There is a list of the reservations on the board next to it so you don’t pay for a spot someone has reserved. The bathrooms and showers were cleaned daily. Showers were also free and quick to warm up.
The only negative note is coming in at night was a little spooky. You go through the historic town on the way to the campground and there’s no towns near by. The train often stops on the tracks going in and out but thankfully there is a way around.

This is a convenient place to camp when travelling through the area since there isn't many other options around. Don't forget your mosquito repellent and watch out for bunnies and field mice when driving by night! Amenities are great, showers are free and clean.

It’s in the Central Valley, so temperatures can definitely rise in the summer -- make sure to bring sufficient water and sunblock.
