We had an incredible weekend getaway at Virgil and Pam's property. It was a lovely, cozy, quaint little cabin that was a perfect place to relax away from the city. We had planned to do some winter hiking and explore the area around Ohiopyle, which was very near to the cabin, but we ended up staying in all weekend (with the exception of a nice walk around the property) due to the weather. It did get very cold, but the cabin is equipped with multiple heaters and electric fireplaces that kept us warm. Virgil kindly checked in regularly and reminded us to turn on the heated blanket on the bed -- it made a huge difference in the night when it was snowy and windy! The kitchen has everything you need (hot plates, microwave, utensils, pots/pans, skillet) to make nice meals, and the gift basket was a very nice touch. :) Thank you Virgil and Pam for your hospitality!

This was our second trip to Ferns in the Forest and I think of it as a treasured getaway. Pam and Virgil have amazing attention to detail…the house has everything needed and some lovely little perks… and they are so welcoming and friendly. We loved it here so much that when we decided to come back to the area, we didnt even THINK about looking at different lodging choices. So nice to have the decks out back and the 1 mile trail for a morning walk without having to drive somewhere! Kudos to Pam and Virgil!

Virgil’s place was fantastic! The location was perfect, and the space was spotlessly clean. The lofted bedroom was a standout feature, making the stay even more special. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Beautiful area, with a cabin that has been thoughtfully furnished, decorated and filled with every amenity a visitor might need. Delightful hosts, though I didn't get to meet them but just corresponded frequently.

Loved that Virgil had a QR code for WiFi! Had a nice campfire and dinner, no issues there. I will say that the site is right beside a road and there were some late night (2-3 AM) drivers, so be aware of that if you're a light sleeper. Otherwise excellent place to spend the night!

Exceeded our expectations!! So peaceful and the land is lush and it has everything you could need! Getting down from the loft was a little intimidating at times but overall we highly recommend this place!

Loved this cabin . We brought more thing that we thought we needed but when you arrive there. There is everything there. Like that toothbrush that you mist or even more. It was in a quiet setting that is perfect to get away from the every day life. Even fire wood was there for us and even ready to use grilled.

We had a wonderful time at the Fernhouse! It is situated in a gorgeous glen of ferns and the one mile hike around the property is lovely. It is a beautiful little house so lovingly built and cared for. It was fun just seeing how beautifully designed and built it is. It’s also so convenient to Ohiopyle SP and all the wonderful things that has to offer. Virgil is a wonderful attentive host. The place had everything we needed and more. Just pack your clothes and food!

We had a great time in the Fern house! So cozy and peaceful. Virgil and Pam went above and beyond with everything you would need to make your stay perfect. I also loved the hiking trail on the property through all the ferns 😊so close to many more hiking trails too! Thank you for everything! I would highly recommend.

The Fern House was a delight! So many thoughtful details! Loved having the outside covered deck and the on site walking trail through the property. The hosts, Virgil and Pam, are absolutely wonderful. My older dog and I stayed during a major heat wave, and Virgil put in a window AC unit to keep us comfortable….above and beyond kindness!

The Fern House
We had a wonderful stay at Virgil and Pam's Ferns in the Forest cabin. The space was beautiful, exceeding our expectations from the photos. And the surrounding land was lovely, it was so relaxing and peaceful to spend time among the ferns. I especially loved the comfortable outdoor seating on both the covered and uncovered back decks. Virgil and Pam were wonderful hosts. The took great care of my dog while we went into Ohiopyle for hiking, and were friendly and responsive for all our questions that came up during our stay. I'd highly recommend this tiny home in the ferns for anyone looking for a fantastic, relaxing stay near all that Ohiopyle has to offer. Special bonus: there's a one mile hiking loop through the forest on the property, perfect place for a dog walk!

Virgil's directions were concise and the cabin is situated between the two most charming little towns. Be sure to stop at Fuel for coffee and Bittersweet for lunch! The cabin itself was an absolute dream and I had trouble leaving it. We felt spoiled with extra cozy bedding, gifted snacks, a bonfire, dvd's for the rainy day and a walking trail on site. I would happily return each Spring before tourism season to enjoy the unfurling of ferns and baby deer. Highly recommend this stay.

The Fern House was absolutely beautiful and equipped with everything needed to enjoy a relaxing trip away surrounded by nature. The hosts were attentive and thoughtful as they provided dog treats and a basket of snacks for my stay. The loft area is spacious and the house is very clean and tidy as well. I throughly enjoyed my stay and would love to visit again in the future.

Fern House is beautifully designed to bring the woods and light into every space. The sleeping loft feels like you are in a treehouse with 360 views. You do have to be comfortable climbing a ladder to access it. The hosts have thought of every detail in order to make you feel comfortable. I can’t recommend it too highly.

This is a beautiful cabin in a great location close to many areas to hike, visit historical sites, and restaurants but it's also tucked away enough to make you feel like you have all the privacy you could want. The owners of this cabin have thought of every detail. You really don't have to bring much. We definitely over packed! The decor is welcoming and cozy. Everything is very clean and tidy. A welcome basket, kitchen essentials, materials and maps of the area, linens and towels, outdoor grill, firewood and more.... These owners really care about the comfort of their guests! It is a cabin that we will definitely make repeat visits too.

We loved staying at the fern house! It was SO clean and dang near anything you need is there. The wifi is super strong, the towels are soft. The property is well kept and plenty of outdoor lighting. “Ferns in the Forest” rates 10 out of 10. We checked into a sparkling clean residence with perfect amenities and treats, all managed by friendly, welcoming hosts. Everything we needed was on-site, including multiple local guides, maps & books, fire pit, gas grill, strong WIFI, electrical outlets and perfect lighting indoors and out, two romantic fireplaces, and a spacious loft with a Therapedic Queen bed. We were also delighted to find both a state-of-the-art home theater, and a glass enclosed walk-in shower with spa towels and toiletries, in what the owners humbly call their “Rustic Cabin in the Woods.” When you visit “Ferns in the Forest,” take your binoculars – you will see (as we did) a herd of deer waking up in the morning (they sleep just in the back), wild turkeys foraging and frolicking, and so many birds, squirrels and chipmunks, that you will KNOW you are nestled in a 32 acre wildlife refuge. Whether you hike on the trail on the property, or just enjoy the views from the many windows, you will remember Ferns in the Forest – and you will want to visit again!

We loved our long weekend stay at the Fern House! Perfect location for getting to the GAP trail and whitewater rafting in Ohiopyle, but it still feels secluded and is such a cozy cabin to come back to after a full day of exploring! Our pup enjoyed walks in the woods and Virgil and Pam were so kind and welcoming. We hope to come back next summer!

When I first walked into the Fern House I thought I had the wrong place. I thought to myself "this place is way nicer than what's shown in the pictures". While at the Fern House, I felt more like a house guest than just someone renting a place to stay for a few nights. I genuinely felt that the owners cared about my experience.
As for any future guest who's considering this cabin, here are a few things that may help in your experience:
1. The cabin has nearly everything you need. Really. I quickly learned I overpacked!
2. The compost toilet isn't as scary as you may think.
3. There's plenty to do right in the cabin and surrounding area.
Lastly, one of the things I enjoyed the most was to lay on the bed in the loft area and listen to a thunder storm. Very cool.

The Fern House was a great find. The cabin was super clean and cozy with a lot of nice little touches. The property was peaceful, quiet, and very relaxing. The cabin had everything we needed to prepare our own meals. We cooked over the fire one night and on the gas grill another. It is located 5 miles from the center of Ohiopyle which is such a fun little town. Of course, the river was great, and the white water rafting was a blast! Virgil is an outstanding host and we hope to go back someday.

The Fern House was so comfortable! Virgil and Pam are incredibly thoughtful hosts - the kitchen was well stocked with utensils and dishes, there was a water cooler, and all the toiletries one could possibly want. The setting in the woods is lovely, and the hosts are friendly and very responsive. Would absolutely stay here again if we find ourselves back in the Laurel Highlands!
