With over 230 acres, a lake, trails, the Grand River, plenty of wildlife, and FREE firewood. Bass and Buck Adventures is the perfect place to get away. Once known as Parkman Gorge the valley was a hub for water powered industry in the early 1800's. The river and valley is home to a wide array of wildlife. Deer, turkey, eagles, hawks, owls, mink, river otters to name a few. The area also attracts many song birds including a wide variety of warblers. There is also an abundance of wild flowers. The valley is rich in Native American history. Many artifacts have been found on the property. My great grandfather talked about the last Native American to live in Parkman. He had a cabin on one of the bluffs along the river. In the 1820's there was a water powered sawmill, flaxseed mill, and forge on the river. The boy scouts used the valley for a camp in the 1920,s. My grandpa purchased the property in the 50's from Ohio Edison. Ohio Edison's plan to dam up the river for hydro power never materialized. The valley has been a favorite for outdoor enthusiasts. Camping, hiking, fishing, hunting. Many of the items used for the camp sites have been reclaimed. The fire rings are old tractor rims and scrap steel. The tent platform is from reclaimed deck lumber. Portable toilets are available, pets are welcome, and campfires are permitted. Naturalist Isabelle H. Klein wrote a collection of letters from her home of Sawdust (named form the sawdust left by the loggers of the early 60’s) for the Cleveland Museum of Natural History’s Explorer Magazine from the winter of 1969 to the summer of 1976. They then were published as the book “Letters From Sawdust” by the Press of Case Western Reserve University for the Museum. It is a lyrical voyage through the seasons at the Sawdust Tract in Northeast Ohio. She details encounters with the wildlife of the area as well as the changing seasons and plant life. Reminiscent of Thoreau's writings about Walden. In 1978 an additional house was moved onto the property from Sidley's gravel pit and joined with the existing Klein farmhouse. We decided to preserve almost 400 acres of the property with the help of the Western Reserve Land Conservatory for the Cleveland Museum Of Natural History, Natural Areas. Forest is home to the red-sided dace, and 10 rare species of birds, including cerulean warblers. The original small family farm and surrounding woods we have retained are being restored and updated. We are proud to call Sawdust home and would love to share it with you.

The Peace Portal: --------------------- This comfy, rustic tiny house sits next to a beautiful pond. Enjoy a private picnic table and fire ring, as well as access to a shared standard half bath. Booking includes a farm fresh breakfast (kindly let us know of any dietary restrictions in advance) and one load of firewood. Tent Camping ------------------ Deep in our property is our camping area. You'll have a wide open view of the stars, plus a large picnic area + fire ring all to yourself. There is a composting toilet right at the campsite, or you may use a (shared) standard half bath a short walk away. Most days you can park right at the campsite (unless we've had a lot of rain and the ground is soft). Hello, this is 22 acres of no frills undeveloped land with beautiful Arcola Creek that runs into Lake Erie. There's room for an RV or can pitch a tent. Enjoy Arcola Creek Estuary a mile away, bird watching, multiple wineries, covered bridges, Geneva on the Lake or enjoy all day by the creek. There is a perfect spot with a fire pit. (Firewood available for purchase) There are rough trails in the back where the land was logged. There is not a bridge currently but can be accessed easily when the water level is low. Please limit guests to 6 or less people. The land isnt perfectly level but there are some flat spots for tents. Although neighbors are some distance away I ask that noise levels are low after 10. ^Please note that there is a camera on the property (not on camp site) for security of my equipment/property when the land is vacant. Camera is rotated out of view after arrival for full privacy of the guests. There is an outhouse with a bucket on the property if needed and flushable toiliets a mile north on Dock Rd at Arcola Creek Park(Overlooking Lake Erie). Theres also electric outlets there and under the pavilion. Facts & History:: Arcola creek runs into an estuary. Its one of the last remaining natural estuaries in Ohio. Steelhead trout spawn and migratory birds find shelter here. The creek was used by Native Americans and the area was instrumental for its role in the Underground Railroad for escaped slaves that boarded ships (at the end of the Dock Rd) on their way to Canada. The town of Ellensburg was built at the junction of Arcola Creek and Lake Erie. It was a thriving community of ship builders, fishermen and commerce. Arcole Iron Works was located south of the mouth of the creek (then called Cunningham Creek after Captain John Cunningham who purchased property there in the early 1800s). Arcole Iron Works was, at one time, the largest industry in Ohio. Bog iron, discovered in Madison Township near North Ridge Road in 1812, and the abundance of timber provided the raw materials for iron furnaces. Iron stoves, kettles, hollowware and other heavy castings were made at the foundry. Everyone is welcome here, let me know ahead of time if there's anything to make your stay more comfortable. We don't currently grow the crops that we did but we have planted some wine grapes in the last several years. As we also have a winery, The Winery at Spring Hill, we wanted to get some of our own grapes in the ground. We have several places for tent camping and we have a large parking lot at the winery for RV parking. We have just under 20 acres. You can drive right to the camp sites located about 700 foot behind the house. It is a peaceful setting over looking a pond, fishing is welcome. There is a pavilion and a playground. Kids and dogs are welcome. We are close to several local wineries and about 20 minutes from Lake Erie. Pymatuning Lake is 30 minutes away. Geneva on the Lake is about 30 minutes from us. We have a catch and release fishing pond. There are 8 sites, all pretty spaced out to give privacy and a relaxing experience. 2 of which are pretty secluded site 6 and site 8. Campsites 1, 2,4,5 and 7have a view of the pond. Site 3 is near a meadow and sits behind all the other sites. Sites 1,2,3,7 can be RV or tent sites. The pavilion adds a sense of comfort especially during rain days. We have corn hole , bocce ball and a few other relaxing games as well as a few card and board games for playing while enjoying the pavilion.

Highly recommend this spot! Craig was an amazing host and supplied everything we could have needed for a quick getaway. The creek was beautiful and we loved listening to the water at night. Tons of birds and spring peepers on the property too. You could occasionally hear vehicle traffic, but it was not disruptive or too loud since the site is a ways back off the road. If you’re looking for a creek spot close to the lake, this is a must see!

Weekend Trip to Camping in Wine Country

The campsite was not what I was expecting. It’s a little patch of grass behind the dumpsters with some trees surrounding it. It wasn’t a typical camping experience, but since I was going mostly for wine it was fun. There isn’t much to do in the immediate area so if you want to stay make sure you bring a car so you can drive to the lake or somewhere fun for the day. The night scene at the winery was very cute. It’s a bunch of older adults dancing and partying like it’s the 70s, staff is incredibly kind, and the wine was pretty good considering being a small place. Next time I want to bring my dog because there was a little dog park and swimming area that looks like a lot of fun. The bathroom situation was incredibly awkward. I was prepared for there to be no toilet after hours of the winery, but I wasn’t expecting there to be no good wooded area to hide in. It’s really awkward standing in a patch of grass attempting to not get poison ivy and also having enough privacy that you’re not flashing the early morning staff and other campers. A portapotty would be easy enough to install, and I think it’s a needed improvement. Overall, it was a cute place to stay if you’re looking for somewhere to rest your head and get drinks.

I really enjoyed my stay here! The campsite had everything we needed — plenty of wood available, clean toilets, and it’s right next to a beautiful stream. My kids had so much fun exploring and playing outside. There are 10 total camping spots, and my favorites were #6 and #10. Nothing beats being outdoors with no internet, away from everyone, just relaxing in nature. Curtis and his wife were incredibly helpful and you can tell they take a lot of pride in keeping the grounds well-maintained. I would definitely come back again!

Weekend Trip to Bass and Buck Tent Adventures

Bass and Buck Adventures was a great place to camp and explore! The property is vast and has many trails to check out. I’d recommend having a charged phone with AllTrails with you because it’s easy to get side-tracked looking at the rivers and cool features of the property. My friends and I stayed at the Lake View campsite and it was awesome. One thing to note is you might hear gunshots from adjacent properties during hunting seasons (as expected anywhere with this amount of land). Great place, great amenities (free firewood), great time!

Perfect weekend getaway. Hosts were great and very helpful. There is a little hike down the hill to the creek. Morgan told us about the rocks and some history about the land. Very very friendly. 10/10 would stay again. The only downfall we noticed is there is no way to lock the cabin at night from the inside.

Weekend Trip to Bass and Buck Tent Adventures

We’ve been to Bass and Buck multiple times before, but this was our first time at the Lakeview site. We arrived on the later side, and it was nice that it was a fairly short walk from parking area. However, it still felt very private and secluded. Waking up to the view of the lake was beautiful, and the site is spacious and fully wooded. I have two young kids, so I was a little worried about how close we would be to the water in case one of them woke up during the night to use the bathroom, but that wasn’t an issue at all. You’re close enough that the view is nice, but no one will accidentally wander into the water. As always, Rick was an excellent host. He gave us good driving directions on how to park at the site, and checked on us the next day to see how our stay had been. We’re already looking forward to coming back!

I loved camping on Nick's land got to explore the river and he has fresh fire wood for my family. It rained quite a bit and my car got stuck not once but twice and he quickly ran to the rescue. So kind and accommodating. I would definitely camp there again. The site was near a train track but it honestly wasn't bad. This was my first time using hip camp and I couldn't have had a better host to get me excited to camp more this year using the app.

This was our fourth time staying at Bill & Nancy's place since we discovered it in 2023. We love it there! It is so beautiful and peaceful, and Bill is a great host. We are always a little sad to have to leave, but we are looking forward to our next opportunity to return.

Very nice tiny home in great condition. Very secluded and quiet, set up a steep hill and surrounded by trees. Great pavilion for campfires and enjoying the outdoors. Highly recommend!
