We invite you to come stay at our location in the Western Maine mountains. We are located off of the Long Falls Dam Rd in Carrying Place Township, in the heart of Maine's wilderness. Our property offers beautiful mountain views; many nearby hiking trails; nearby swimming, boating, fishing and kayaking at Flagstaff Lake; along with numerous back roads to explore and look for wildlife. You can also find ATV trails about a half hour drive away in the town of Kingfield. Ensure you are guaranteed a spot just outside the Bigelow Preserve and everything it has to offer. Our sites sit behind a locked gate that is monitored 24/7 with a security camera. Also, although we are remote, we do offer Wi-Fi for your convenience.
Please take note that our sites are remote. We may be right off a paved road, but the closest town with a store is a half an hour drive. Also be mindful that this is the Maine wilderness, there are wild animals that frequent our location, along with biting insects such as deer flies and mosquitoes. This truly is a beautiful location, but please be sure to pack accordingly for your stay.

This is a quaint, off grid cabin located in Elliotsville, Me., surrounded by wilderness, next to the Appalachian Trail in the 100 Mile Wilderness. Firewood and propane and plenty of water at sink provided. 2 8ft kayaks for your use to explore all the ponds and lakes nearby. You can spend days or weeks exploring the area, hiking, biking, canoeing, mountain climbing and swimming. Its like going back in time a hundred years but you have some cell reception, unlike our ancestors. Have made several improvements to cabin not yet reflected in guest photos. Yeti type cooler provided for refrigeration of food for longer stays. The cabin is small but can accommodate 5 easily. Queen bed with bunk beds in 1st floor bedroom, full size and twin bed in upstairs bedroom. Clean linens provided. Open kitchen and living room. Seems like most people love it. Pretty sure you will too. So much to do in the area. Be as bored or as active as you want. Welcome book with directions to local spots all very close. Waterfalls, the most beautiful lake (Onawa), swimming holes... all close by. Appalachian trail out back. Other sites close by must be driven to but close by still, away from town. Thank you to my guests for uploading photos. I'm not good at that so I rely on you.

They used it as a place for their family to
gather and camp on during Maine wonderful summer season. It is a beautiful, quiet spot with a great view and a small pond. Hipcamp lets us share this spot and helps pay our property taxes.
We are located in the western mountains of Maine in a summer community on Porter Lake. There is a beautiful view of New Vineyard mountain from our 3 acre field.
We are going through some growing pains. We currently have no hookups available. We have added a bath house with hot showers which will soon be up and running. The camp sites have been relocated deeper into our property. A loop road behind our private pond provides the access. We will be adding power and water to all our sites as soon as possible. The camping area is fairly private from our neighbors along the road. The site has a small private pond surrounded by trees you can sit and relax near.
You can (walk/bike/drive) the 1/4 mile down the dirt road to the public beach. The beach has a public dock, boat ramp, swim float, picnic tables and grills. Paddle out to the island and try the rope swing with one of our kayaks or canoes.
Be sure to check out the bald eagles that live in the white pine tree just a little farther down the island. You will hear the loons during your stay and possibly see a mother with her babies on her back. There are also ducks and ducklings and geese with gosling paddling about the lake. The state stocks the lake with trout, splake, and salmon if you like to fish. There is plenty to do right here!

The right to roam, also called the right of access, or everyman's right(“allemannsretten”) is a traditional right from ancient times, and since 1957 has also been a part of the Norwegian Outdoor Recreation Act. It ensures that everybody gets to experience nature, even on larger privately owned
areas.
In our travels to Norway, we learned of this law and loved the concept so much we brought it back with us to America. Yet we had no land to offer. So, we searched...and searched....and searched some more. Then we found what would become camp Streife. 20 acres of uncut timber growth forest, tucked in the hills of Rumford Maine. With a nearby brook, pond and within 20 minutes of some of our favorite ski locations it was just right.
The rules of this law are simple.
Be considerate and thoughtful. Don't damage nature and other surroundings. Leave the landscape as you would want to find it. Leave no trace. You may put up a tent, or sleep under the stars, for the night anywhere in the countryside, forests or mountains, as long as you keep at least 500 feet away from the nearest inhabited house or cabin. This rule of 500 feet distance also applies to camping cars and
caravans.
If you want to stay for more than two nights in the same place, you must
ask the landowner's permission, except in the mountains or very remote
areas.
Well, we've taken care of all those Allemannsretten rules for you.

IMPORTANT PLEASE NOTE: We are intentionally remote, secluded, and off-grid. We are best accessed by water (1.3 mile paddle or motorboat), with a seasonal (May 15-December 1) 9-mile very rough (4wd) logging access road (minimum vehicle clearance 8in---seriously). For first-time guests arriving by road, you will need to be guided in---the property is impossible to find on your own (no gps, no map).
If you arrive by road, please note that you must park (free/overnight/safe/secure) at a narrow trailhead and walk to the lakeside sites about 1/4 mile down the hill. We are happy to help you with your gear and have a couple of wheelbarrows and sometimes an ATV. So unless you want to RV/truck/car camp at the trailhead (definitely an option), it is tent-only camping on the lakeshore and garden sites. Please don't ask if you can drive your vehicle right down to the site---we don't even drive our own down.
However you decide to arrive, we are happy to guide you at no extra charge. We do have cellular phone service on site and shoreline but NOT on the logging road in.
[There is unfortunately no way for us to make the property accessible for guests who need the use of personal mobility equipment. Also, from experience, we MUST caution those with medical conditions that this is a WILDERNESS location, at least two hours from any medical facilities and very difficult to even medevac.]
We have a small fishing boat (paddle only), 1 kayak, 3 mountain bikes, and a canoe for rent; firewood for purchase on site; your choice of spots to pitch a tent or use our raised platform.

Get ready pitch your tent and enjoy a night under the stars. The campsite is set back amidst the evergreens creating a lovely green scape. Relax by the fire after a rewarding day of adventuring what Western Maine has to offer on a completely wooded lot. There are plenty of hiking, biking, swimming holes, rivers, lakes, and ATV trails nearby. Sugarloaf mountains new downhill mountain bike park is 15 minutes away. Close to amenities but very secluded in location.

The hosts were super accommodating and proactive for our large group this past weekend. Our large group of friends and family were able to all stay on one site so that the kids could play together and the adults could reconnect. We absolutely had a blast!
We were well informed, were given very helpful add-ons for our stay, and the location was easy to find and just what we needed for our group. I have a feeling this land will only improve with time!

Loved camping at Orange gate sites! The location was easy to find using Apple Maps, the gate was easy to access and the included kindling/firewood was helpful!
The grounds are very clearly marked and my campsite was perfectly secluded and peaceful. The handbook was lovely, laying out everything from local recs, check in/out instructions and a handy map of the grounds. I also appreciated the included water bucket and fire blanket for campfire maintenance/safety.
I already booked a return stay later in the season!

I was hesitant about staying somewhere with no running water (I’m very new to camping), but this has been my favourite camp site yet. The breeze was lovely, the view was beautiful. A short drive away (less than 10 minutes), there is a lake you can swim in. There is a port-a-potty in between the sites (you can’t see it or the other sites from your spot at The View, but it is close by) that is well maintained. There is an active rock quarry below the site which made me a little nervous with three small kids, but there were signs and fences (non-obtrusive) to keep everyone away from the edges. I was SO impressed with the care and thought put into the site. I would completely recommend this to anyone contemplating staying here.

I have stayed at both little nook and brook haven on ambers land both sites were amazing. Brook haven is completely private and there is almost no road noise. Access roads and outhouse are well maintained.

Nice spot, everything was clean. Lot of woods, all sort of woods so you can easily cook on the fire.
Close to a nice little river for swimming or fishing.

We had a lovely trip to the landing! As described, it was a broad, open site with lots of privacy around a network of dirt roads to explore. The beautiful stream and the outhouse were closer than the advertised 10 min walk. Do look at the map closely before you go to be sure to find the site. Our dogs loved running around and we all enjoyed the combination of exploring and relaxing.

Excellent views of the full moon rising over the hills. Spacious and well-lit outhouse. Fresh spring water flowing. A very comfortable experience to use as a base camp for exploring the Rangeley/Saddleback area.

Beautiful site. Well be going back soon they have electricity and water and an out house bathroom. They he sounds of the river in the background is very relaxing. They have fire wood. Spacious sites.

Another wonderful stay! We camped Friday through Sunday and had mostly beautiful weather. We spent lots of time relaxing by the river, our dog was in and out of the water all weekend (her happy place!), and Wyatt finally caught his first fish here—definitely a highlight of the trip!
One tip for anyone bringing a dog: the beach area doesn't get much shade until closer to the afternoon. If you're planning to spend the morning there and want to keep your pup close by, a small canopy or portable shade is a great idea. Our 11-year-old girl loves the water but also appreciates a good nap, so we'll definitely be bringing one next time to keep her comfy.
This place never disappoints, and we're already looking forward to our next visit!

Gorgeous property with multiple river access points and a great beach area. The road coming into the site was a bit rough - we made it easily with a popup but a large RV would likely bottom out. Porta Potty onsite (clean), picnic table, and fire ring. Nice fabric store in town, and a quick hike to Daggett Rock rounded out the trip nicely.

this is one of the greatest campsites ive ever stayed at. surrounded by lush mature forest on all sides, in a clearing with a meadow of ferns that creates a very mystical vibe. even better with the sound of the stream just downhill. being a mile off the road really makes it feel like youre in the middle of the wilderness, cuz you are. i heard 5-10 different types of birds calling around sunset/dusk and in the morning. the stars were poppin. i also saw the most fireflies i have ever seen after sunset and into the night - hundreds of them buzzing around the ferns. the fire pit is generously big, and theres a lot of seating between the picnic table and extra bench. i wasnt planning to return to western maine again in the future, but now i wanna make a point of it to stay at this site again

This camp was great. We enjoyed the access to the AT and walked on it both days we were there. The camp had everything we needed in terms of bedding. There was a great cast iron skillet that we used for most meals. The bathroom situation was great. Unusual to have a flush toilet. I would recommend this camp.

Beautiful location and the host was great! You can either arrive by boat or driving down a 9 mile logging road. We chose the road since we had our dog. The sit is a short walk from the road and skip loaded up her atv to help us bring our gear down. Property is right on the water with a beautiful view, tons of trails around and very isolated. We had a great time and would definitely recommend staying here!
