We purchased this land a few years ago when our neighbors decided to sell. It abuts our property They used it as a place for their family to gather and camp on during Maine wonderful summer season. It is a beautiful, quiet spot with a great view and a small pond. Hipcamp lets us share this spot and helps pay our property taxes.We are located in the western mountains of Maine in a summer community on Porter Lake. There is a beautiful view of New Vineyard mountain from our 3 acre field. We have 2 trailer sites with power and water (non potable) and an out house. The field has several fire pits and soft grassy spaces for pitching tents. The camping area is fairly private from our neighbors along the road. The site has a small private pond surrounded by trees you can sit and relax near. You can (walk/bike/drive) the 1/4 mile down the dirt road to the public beach. The beach has a public dock, boat ramp, swim float, picnic tables and grills. Paddle out to the island and try the rope swing with one of our kayaks or canoes. Be sure to check out the bald eagles that live in the white pine tree just a little farther down the island. You will hear the loons during your stay and possibly see a mother with her babies on her back. There are also ducks and ducklings and geese with gosling paddling about the lake. The state stocks the lake with trout, splake, and salmon if you like to fish. There is plenty to do right here!

Set up right next to the river and enjoy the tranquil sounds of the waterfalls just above. This is also where 3 Pools is located, a place to soak and play, even pan for gold if you'd like! Coos Canyon is just 5 miles north of the site and Rumford is about 7 miles south where you can get any amenities you may need.

You can spend days or weeks exploring the area, hiking, biking, canoeing, mountain climbing and swimming. Its like going back in time a hundred years but you have some cell reception, unlike our ancestors. Have made several improvements to cabin not yet reflected in guest photos. Yeti type cooler provided for refrigeration of food for longer stays. The cabin is small but can accommodate 5 easily. Queen bed with bunk beds in 1st floor bedroom, full size and twin bed in upstairs bedroom. Clean linens provided. Open kitchen and living room. Seems like most people love it. Pretty sure you will too. So much to do in the area. Be as bored or as active as you want. Welcome book with directions to local spots all very close. Waterfalls, the most beautiful lake (Onawa), swimming holes... all close by. Appalachian trail out back. Other sites close by must be driven to but close by still, away from town. We invite you to come stay at our location in the Western Maine mountains. We are located off of the Long Falls Dam Rd in Carrying Place Township, in the heart of Maine's wilderness. Our property offers beautiful mountain views; many nearby hiking trails; nearby swimming, boating, fishing and kayaking at Flagstaff Lake; along with numerous back roads to explore and look for wildlife. Our sites sit behind a locked gate that is monitored 24/7 with a security camera. Also, although we are remote, we do offer Wi-Fi for your convenience.
Please take note that our sites are remote. We may be right off a paved road, but the closest town with a store is a half an hour drive. Also be mindful that this is the Maine wilderness, there are wild animals that frequent our location, along with biting insects such as deer flies and mosquitoes. This truly is a beautiful location, but please be sure to pack accordingly for your stay.

Balsam Woods campground is less than a minute’s drive from Piper Pond, a 2-mile-long lake with public boat launch and beach access. Weekend Trip to 100 Mile Wilderness Cabin
This was our second visit to Paul's cabin and did not disappoint again. Paul made sure there was enough water and wood to last our stay. There is now a flushing toilet outside which was a nice treat. There are many fantastic walking trails close by including the Appalachian Trail. This time round we spent time at North Pond and Juniper Knee Pond and hiked 4ish hour to Little Wilson Falls (there and back and time at the falls).

Weekend Trip to The Bird's Nest-Private Tiny House
I had the BEST two nights staying at the Bird’s Nest! It was so beautiful and cozy. The weather held out long enough to enjoy walking through the trails on the property, and building a fire in the wood stove was perfect for the rainy and chilly evening. Lisa is a wonderful host and put so much thought into everything one might need while staying here. I hope to be back again soon!

My husband and I stayed for the weekend and had such a relaxing time. You’re truly alone (aside from a neighbor going by a couple times a day, but that wasn’t a big deal. If anything, it was comfort just in case any emergencies happened.) It was incredibly peaceful with the sound of the stream. A beautiful walk up to a gorgeous pond with a small mountain in the distance. Nice campfire with a grate that swivels for cooking over the fire. The platform you can set your tent up on was fantastic! The site would be a great spot for star gazing because of the lack of light pollution, but it was cloudy every night for us. We will most certainly be back!

2 nights at The Bird's Nest-Private Tiny House
What an awesome spot! The Birds Nest doesn’t disappoint. The Nest sits on the same property as the owner but it’s far enough away that you can’t even see anything. Such a magical little cabin with an awesome wood stove that will keep you more than cozy. Everything was nice and clean/tidy….the outhouse was the same.
Amazing location for hiking.
World class fly fishing in the Carrabassett River not far away.
Me and the ole girl and I can’t wait to come back!!

I loved staying here with my dog! They were so thoughtful in both building and stocking the tiny house. I had everything I needed for a cozy night away from town and my dog loved running through the woods. They have well marked trails throughout. It was perfect!

We loved camping here, made a reservation for another week end while we were still there. It’s right in the river with just little bit of woods in between. Gorgeous and dogs off leash, best week end they’ve had in a while. Very quiet having the place all to ourselves was heaven.

Weekend Trip to Evergreen Conservation Area
I loved staying on Dan’s property. His camp provided everything my group needed for a relaxing fall weekend getaway: spectacular views, accommodating infrastructure, and absolute solitude. You can tell he’s put a lot of thought and energy into the property (and the Hipcamp experience ), which made the entire stay seamless and inviting. We will be back!
Pro Tips: 1) arrive before dark to get your bearings, 2) pack light (it’s a good hike to the lake) and the rocky, rooty trail is not wagon-friendly, 3) Download offline Google maps and give yourself extra time for arrival because it’s way out there and GPS/cell service is spotty at best.

Dusty and Annette's place is wonderful. Peaceful, spacious riverside sites and a great pavilion to gather round the fire and chat with nice folks. They are welcoming hosts and want to be sure you're enjoying your stay.

1 night at The Bird's Nest-Private Tiny House
Lisa was amazing about communicating before and during my trip. She was also super helpful on directing me to the perfect spot to watch the sunset. The Brid's Nest was exactly as described, and. a fun cabin to stay in. It is a little bit of a walk up to the cabin, but there is a wagon to help load up your suitcases. Sunrise through the trees the next morning was absolutely beautiful along with my drive to my next destination. If you don't mind glamping without the extra fluff, I recommend staying here!
