We were making our way from the west coast to the east coast and found this place to stay. It was beautiful, even in the fall/winter time. We stayed warm and cozy in the yurt and had a beautiful view of the lake. I would definitely recommend to stay here and we would come back.

Our third visit to Blackthorn and we love it more every time. Camping areas are spread out amongst the woods, and it’s really lovely in cool fall weather! We had a very windy weekend, but our site was nicely blocked from it, so we could just enjoy the sounds from the blowing trees. Great visit!

Dave’s land was wonderful. There’s lots of cool trails to explore that are well maintained. Our little corner was full of wildlife and right by the river. I can tell Dave puts alot of time and care into his space, and we are so grateful we got to explore it. Dave was a great host and I would recommend this spot to anyone!!

We stayed one night at Steve and Sharon’s land during our road trip from Nebraska to Kansas, and it was such a lovely experience! My children absolutely loved it — especially the Yut, fireplace and adorable, friendly horses that my younger son couldn’t get enough of. The Yut was spotless, cozy, and very comfortable. It was so beautiful in the night under the moon and stars. We truly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this place to anyone!

We stayed in the yurt and it was awesome! We enjoyed not having to set up a tent and it was already set up and the inside was very nice! We were on the way to Colorado so glad we found this place! They were very responsive and very helpful. We chatted with Steve for a little while when we got there after he showed us back to the campsite. He is very friendly and would highly recommend!

Having literally everything we needed already at the site was so thoughtful and made our trip stress free. Easy to get to off the highway for a one night stay and then back on the road. The host greeted us kindly when we arrived and we parked in the tent area. We car camped in the back of our SUV. The toilet was a little far to walk, especially in the middle of the night for me and my child. maybe they can add one closer? It was a peaceful and idyllic and we saw fireflies.

We actually got to get a pull through site instead of the back in. It was all paved and we were able to skate in it. Really nice campground. Small store with ice, firewood, bug spray, and things of that nature. Nice pool and bathroom/shower area’s.

Welcome to the largest man-made lake in Kansas, where you’ll find almost 16,000 surface acres of the best fishing in the state. If that’s not enough to draw you in, how about 11 parks for camping, picnicking, and swimming, a huge wetland area for viewing birds and wildlife, a nature center and fish hatchery, and even a full-service marina. Milford Lake is one of the most popular recreational destinations in Kansas, but there’s so much room to spread out, you would never know it. Hitch up your RV or your boat, or maybe both, and make tracks to this Great Plains paradise.
When to go
The ideal time to visit Milford Lake is between April and September when the weather is warm and the lake's activities are in full swing. However, be mindful of the blue-green algae status before planning your trip. Off-season visits can offer a tranquil escape, but some facilities may be limited, so check ahead for availability.

- Check the current blue-green algae status to ensure water safety during your visit.
- Review the rules and regulations by referencing Title 36 CRF 327 for a safe and lawful experience.
- Visitor Center hours are from 7am to 3:30pm, plan your visit within these times for assistance.
