Bad Rat Ranch is a 20-acre ranch with 8 acres of lush vineyards in the scenic countryside of Northern California. The ranch is set amongst rolling hills and vineyards about two hours from both San Francisco and Sacramento.
We provide two guest houses (cabins), as well as two campsites with RV hookups.

Lake Pillsbury Resort is nestled in the Mendocino National Forest. Perched on the west side of beautiful Lake Pillsbury, the resort and marina are surrounded by towering pines, majestic mountains and alluring waters. Along with cabins and campsites, the resort has a marina with docking facilities, boat and kayak rentals, a launch ramp and the only fuel for sale on the lake. Memorial Day thru Labor Day all amenities are available, and for the remainder of the year, we offer limited services. Before and after the summer holidays you will experience a peaceful forest setting while taking in a depth of natural wonders and the spectacular seasons. Come stay with us, there is something for everyone to enjoy at Lake Pillsbury Resort.
Cabins
The Resort features eight cabins nestled in oak trees looking over the lakefront. Seven of our cabins are roomy one or two bed studio cabins, each with its own half bath, kitchen and screened porch. We have our prized one bedroom log cabin, bath with tub/shower and sleeping loft. Additionally, there are two secluded cabins set back with views of Hull Mt. each with one king bed, restroom, outdoor cooking facilities and porch. All cabins have access to coin operated hot showers. we are a bring your own bedding facility, All cabin guests need to bring their own linens and pillows as there is no linen service in the area. Cabins are booked for weekly stays Saturday to Saturday from mid June thru mid August. Nightly stays are available early season, late season or if we have openings two weeks out from arrival date during high season.

Camping at it’s best! We offer 38 campsites plus 1 RV full hook-up (30amp) site, each with its own fire pit, table and water. The campsites are nestled in a beautiful natural setting of oaks and pines, and are spread out all around the grounds with many lakefront and lake view sites. Some sit back with more privacy, but all sites offer easy access to the lake. RVs and trailers are welcome and many sites are roomy enough to back right in. We follow the same weekly booking for most of our camps during high season, and do nightly early and late season. All camps are by reservation, so please call for availability.

There are about 8 buildings, 5 cabins that share the space and are within eye and earshot of each other but not too close. Each cabin has its own deck and seating with access to a fire pit and communal BBQ. This is the spot for adventurous people who would like a step up from tent camping. It offers all the creature comforts of home with nature and adventure, right outside your door. The cabins are spotless, cozy and updated with modern amenities. Nice linens and comfortable beds provided. Co-op full kitchen area for guest use.
An amazing place to unwind and have a bit of digital detox. The property is full of pines, Madrone and Oak trees. Nice horseshoe pit, hammock and decks to chill on. Woodpeckers, deer, squirrels and jack rabbits all in their daily surroundings.
Below cabins we offer an open field for fetch with dog, get to know our DONKEYS, frisbee or kite flying. Bonus, enclosed area for complete light pollution free star gazing at night. It's wide open and one of the best spots in the country -you can drive to.

Marek's property is really special! Tucked away from the main roads and few neighbors. Beautiful views in the day and stars at night. There was cell service on property and the guesthouse was easy to find.

Married couple, 5 yr old LOVED this place, adorable cabin, loved the back patio with the awesome outdoor shower. The birds in the morning and the sound of the rushing stream was wonderful, Joe was so friendly and supplied us with charcoal and eggs!
As the previous comment mentioned, there are homes and other cabins - but you still feel like you have your own space in this place. I thought it was very clean for being in the middle of the woods and I would love to come back! (:

What a fantastic stay! From the moment we arrived, James was incredibly helpful and welcoming. He met us at the road, guided us in, and provided a radio so we could stay in touch with him and the host, Linda throughout our visit—which made us feel safe and supported, especially while navigating the area or heading out on hikes without cell service.
The setting was peaceful and breathtaking. Absolute silence at night, with stunning views. Watching the sunset and sunrise from the deck was magical, and the bed was one of the most comfortable we’ve ever slept on—seriously, we slept like rocks.
We loved the outdoor space, especially the charming outdoor sink setup. It added to the rustic charm without sacrificing comfort. The main house is just up the hill—close enough in case we needed something, but still far enough to feel totally private and remote.
And a special shoutout to Buddy the dog! He popped by now and then to check on us, which we appreciated. He felt like a friendly guardian making sure everything was good in our little corner of the woods.
Highly recommend if you’re looking for peace, comfort, and just the right amount of adventure. We’d come back in a heartbeat!

The guesthouse is a nice little unit with all the needed amenities. The farm is lovely and quaint with animals to interact with. But the really nice touch was the host who constantly ensured we had everything we needed and provided recommendations to nearby attractions. Will definitely be back!

We were amazed at the creative implementation for a Japanese experience in a small CA mountain town. The private unit was authentically designed and furnished with the peaceful Japanese influences both interior and exterior! The cedar wooden furo/hot tub was very special being surrounded by bamboo walkways and nighttime lighting to the delightful flowing creek below the property.

Brett’s place is lovely, it’s a very nice home in a beautiful spot. We had a great time exploring the area. We appreciate that it was dog friendly. We were able to hang out at Clear Lake and there are many wineries in the area along with cute breakfast spots and shops. Going home at the end of our day to hang in the hot tub was the best. Brett is super nice, I ended up accidentally leaving my drivers license there and he was able to help me get in touch with the house cleaner Maria who sent it in the mail. I really appreciated them. Definitely recommend.

Wow - what a wonderful spot!
We were greeted with a very clean, open and refreshing house. It is impressive how mindfully designed and well-appointed it is, with pleasant textures, textiles, colors and artful touches throughout, as well as numerous large windows to let the outside in.
The comfortable seating areas are perfectly placed to enjoy the beautiful, woodsy setting both indoors and out. The hot tub area is great too - perfectly designed for privacy & relaxation.
The house was well-stocked with items that are often not provided at house rentals, such as Kleenex, a variety of cooking spices, every kitchen tool I needed (and we cooked every meal at the house during our 3-night stay), Tupperware perfect for picnics, coffee supplies, etc. Well done!
It's one of those places you want to tell everyone about, but you also don't because you want it to be available for your next getaway!
