Jo and her daughter Jules are very friendly and welcoming. She offers a portapotty if that's what you want but otherwise left us to ourselves the whole time. We stayed at her campsite further into the woods, past her home. I recommend that site because it's more secluded. You can still see the house but it provided the minimum amount of privacy we wanted. The other campsite is nice if you want to be by the lake but just note that it's pretty close to the house. There was also a dock with a canoe and chairs. Looks like it would be lots of fun for days with warmer temperatures.
Since we were the only ones there, we were able to borrow the table from the campsite by the lake. If you need a sturdy table for cooking, I recommend bringing one because the campsite in the woods doesn't have its own. There is a nice fire pit and log for sitting. There is the Jeep trail keeps going down past where we set up our tent. It was nice to have access to take walks with our dog along that trail. It's kind of between two streams. We saw another person and dog on the other side of the stream temporarily but otherwise, there wasn't a soul in sight.
Just note that this is apparently the year of the cicadas... They took us by surprise the first night. Luckily they weren't right in the woods where we were staying but I'm the distant trees and they pretty much sound like a million tiny sirens going off at night. Once in a while, you also hear trains in the distance. We had to just get used to it but it wasn't the peaceful and quiet nights we hoped for.
Apart from the noise issues, which are out of everyone's control, the campsite was great and spacious. We really enjoyed having the Jeep trail right by us to take walks (there's lots of wood to collect for the fire pit) and play fetch with our dog. Just bring a long leash and you'll be fine. Also just FYI, tick season has arrived early. If you're bringing a dog, check their fur a few times daily because we pulled a few off of our dog.
We liked being close to town and a short drive to Woodstock as well, so if that's your jam, Jo's campsite will be great for you.
