Come stay in MT City; only 5 miles from all historic Helena has to offer! 4 restaurants/bars within walking distance(.5 mi.). 3 large lakes w/in 10 miles with beaches, boating and sight seeing opportunities; the Missouri river within 15 miles for fishing, boating, paddle boarding, hiking and biking. Come relax! Sleeps 4 in beds. Additional guests allowed with permission and fee (tents and/or or campers).
While exploring Helena, we recommend the Walking Mall and the lower end of Last Chance Gulch for shopping and dining. You can also do a self guided tour of the Capitol building and then ride the tour train through Helena to get a quick history lesson. If you want to do something outside, we suggest Houser Lake at Lakeside with a bar and grill, a beach, fire pit, volley ball, etc. There is also guided boat rides at Gates of the Mountains on Holter Lake (about 20 miles towards Great Falls). If you are looking to go hiking, Mount Helena is a nice hike, but maybe a bit much for small kiddos, unless you have a backpack. If you'd like additional suggestions, please don't hesitate to reach out. Hope you enjoy your stay!

The Monarch Cabin sits at an elevation of approximately 8,600 feet on the west side of Elkhorn Peak. It is surrounded by more than 300,000 acres of public land with 80,000 acres of that being designated as a roadless area. The nearest human inhabitance is in the Historic Town of Elkhorn situated a bit more than 3 miles to the south and a drop of about 2,000 feet of elevation.
During the Summer, enjoy hiking, mountain biking, and trail running on maintained and unmaintained trails. Climb peaks with incredible views and fish in mountain lakes. Spring time provides opportunity to experience the splendor of the wild flower season. There are so many flowers that the whole area is alive with the aroma and multitude of colors. If you are lucky, you may see new born wildlife such as deer, elk, mountain goats, fox, moose and many others.
Winter time lends to incredible back country skiing, split boarding, and snowshoeing. The sunsets are typically spectacular while enjoying the views and solitude. Book for a time of full moon and with a clear sky a moonlight ski or walk is amazing.
From the West there is the Muskrat/Tizer Lakes trail which is a maintained, designated hiking/biking trail. To the south is an unmaintained, extremely rough forest service road leading to the cabin. To the east there is a trail to the top of Elkhorn Peak and to Crow Peak, the two highest peaks in the Elkhorn mountains. To the north there are trails leading to most anywhere in the Elkhorn Mountains. Tizer lakes are only about 3 miles away on an easy maintained trail. From there there are too many destinations to name. Hiking and biking is limited only by one's own ambition and skills. The Elkhorn endurance run is a well known event that has it's longer race route run right through the property.
At the end of a hard day of adventure, relax in the wood fired sauna and enjoy the amazing sunsets. If you are lucky, you might even hear elk bugling in the valley below (September/October).
Most people access the cabin by hiking, biking, snowshoes or ski's. If one choose to drive, a 4 WD truck would be a must and would still be difficult. Areas above the cabin are for non-motorized use only.

We really enjoyed our time on this property. It is a true taste of off grid living. It is not an in town rental, but instead your experience will be far from town with the comforts you still enjoy. Elk will keep you company when you wake up in the morning. The bathroom has a unique experience that just has to be seen to understand that is very enjoyable. The host provides a very hospitable experience. I would highly recommend and also recommend enjoying all the back roads that are accessible from this cabin.

The tent was amazing! It was the perfect mix of wilderness and comfort. I had my 4 yr old daughter and we had a blast. Endless rocks and boulders to climb on and plenty of privacy. We heard an elk bugling on the second the morning as well, creating quite the experience.
We also took a quick drive to the Hardware Cafe just a few miles down the road for some comfort food.
We will definitely be staying again next year!

We had a late arrival, and an early morning, but after we settled in, this was such a dreamy stay! It was an adventure to get there in the dark, and we were careful on the rocky road up to the spot. Our host recommends a higher clearance, which is necessary.
The sky is so big up there! Wow! The stars!!! The tipi was very cozy, and the bed was super comfy. ... And the morning - the coyotes yipping in the distance, a screech owl, the expansive view of the mountains in every direction, sunset colours with the tipi in the foreground... it was truly a one of kind experience.
Our only regrets is not having more time relax and enjoy, or use all the amenities, like the outdoor shower (it has hot water!).
Our host was so wonderfully accommodating as we scrambled to make arrangements. Thank you for everything! And for sharing this beautiful chunk of Montana with us.
(And ps. We loved Anaconda too... such a charmer of a town!)

We wanted to go somewhere, but had to be super close to home. Enter an Elkhorn Mountain adventure, just 20 minutes from our door in Helena, down the highway to Clancy to the Homestead Camp.
We love camping ⛺️ and yet I didn’t feel up to all of the work required. And I’m really very extremely tired and wanted to sleep well.
I found this gorgeous getaway on Hip-camp and with the hard work done, all I had to do was eat, drink, read, and sleep. And boy, did I sleep! Multiple times a day even!
We watched clouds rolls by until the sky darkened and it was the stars’ turn. ✨ We fell asleep to rain drops kissing the canvas and woke to the rattle of thunder of deep in the mountains. ⛰️

Absolutely loved this campsite! We loved our stay at the Casey tent! Super cute and unique stay. The land it is on is beautiful and it is not far from Helena which was nice. We stayed one night but wish it was a couple more. I will say, don’t take the warning for the two track road lightly. Our minivan didn’t make it the whole one mile to the tent (we didn’t know what to expect for the drive on the property)

Weekend Trip to 4D Ranch
Denise's tipi is well-situated and has a lovely view. We experienced a really spectacular sunset while we had a late dinner. There are some extra perks in the campsite - a picnic table, a firepit, an outhouse, and so cool to sleep in a real bed while still having the 'camping' feel. I would recommend being sure to have camping supplies on hand like water and a stove for cooking & you will have a truly fantastic experience!

1 night at Relax Inn Montana
This was such a wonderful get away! We stayed here after our Yellowstone adventure on the way to Glacier National Park. Pam was so accommodating and her property is lovely. The soaking tubs outside at sunset were so cool and all the outside activities were a great addition. Will definitely have to come back for a longer stay. You could have your entire own wellness retreat here. Make sure to drink the glacier water for the well! It was the best water I've ever had.

With pets
Such an adorable place! Rarely do I find sites that are so kid friendly and even rarer mid AND dog friendly. Only problem that we had was it was HOT in the cabin at night after a full day, but our host was so helpful and brought us a box fan to cool it off quicker.
The hosts were so kind and we really had a wonderful stay.

With kids
What a beautiful, peaceful place with a very accommodating host. The cabin and bathroom were clean and the bed was comfortable. There was lots to do and I had a great time with my son. We were there for a little league baseball tournament and it was so nice to have a quiet and affordable place to relax between games. Loved all the lights at night. We will definitely be back! Thank you, Pamela!

Fantastic FREE history
So much information. Make sure you tour the mansion as the guide really take it as a personal narrative. Let’s you imagine life in earlier times. All the original antiques and story lines add to the experience.
