This is hands-down our favorite HipCamp, and a spot we look forward to returning to every single year. It’s truly something special.
The riverfront setting is absolutely perfect! It’s beautiful, peaceful, private, and incredibly well cared for. Everything about the site feels thoughtfully curated, from how it’s set up to how well stocked and impeccably clean everything is. You can tell how much care and attention the owner puts into making this an exceptional place to stay, and it shows in every detail.
There’s a reason this was named one of the top HipCamps this year…it is 100% deserved. We’ve stayed at plenty of places, and this one continues to set the bar. The location, amenities, cleanliness, and hospitality are all outstanding.
If you’re lucky enough to find an opening, book it. We can’t recommend it highly enough. We’re already looking forward to our next stay!

Upriver Paradise -"Private Retreat"
Steve is an awesome host and he definitely has a piece of paradise that we appreciate he chooses to share with others. We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed the sounds of the river and crickets in the evening as we slumbered off to sleep. We brought our 3 dachshunds and found plenty of room for them to scout out the area.
We visited out a couple of old covered bridges and some local waterfalls. It was a very peaceful and relaxing stay.

We had another wonderful stay at Upriver Paradise! The location is absolutely stunning—being right on the river was the highlight of the trip, and the sound of the water was so relaxing and sitting with our feet in the water was so refreshing! One of the things we really appreciated most was the privacy; it feels like a true getaway where we could really disconnect and enjoy nature. The site was also immaculately clean and well-maintained, which made setting up camp very easy! We had water and electric hook-up’s available for all 3 of our travel trailers. The host Steve is incredibly welcoming and made the check-in process seamless. If you are looking for a quiet, beautiful spot to unwind, I couldn’t recommend this place enough. We have already booked another trip to come back to this fabulous spot!

What a way to spend my Birthday weekend! Steve's eye for details didn’t go unnoticed. Very peaceful place to unwind from daily living. Rylie🐾loved the easy access to water. The grounds are immaculate and level for our toy hauler. Power and water was so thought out and easy access. All the chairs/benches are in the right places. Didn’t have to pack to the river. Bonus! We will be booking again. Would highly recommend for a private escape. Steve is listed as a top 50 campsite in America. Way to go! Oh….easy sleeping with the sounds of the river.

The location can’t be beat! Right on the McKenzie River. They provided chairs right on the river to be able sit and dangle your feet in the river which was great since it was in the 90s. Very large area too and private. The host was friendly and very helpful ( even provided a jump when we killed our car battery!). Planning on going back again.

Steve’s campground is a riverfront dream! We had a wonderful time with our family, for a four night stay . Steve was friendly and helpful and has put so much thought into this hipcamp . There are so many lovely spots to spend time at this site . The kids and adults enjoyed playing in the river and playing cards at the picnic tables at night . We could not have asked for a better camping experience! We hope to be back soon ! Thanks again !!!

Such a beautiful spot on the McKenzie River! Lovely view, and Steve takes such special care of the property. All the little details and special touches make this spot a real treat. We are already booking our dates for next year!
Steve’s land is truly special! The property is beautifully maintained, and I immediately felt comfortable and at home during our stay. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience and genuinely enjoyed every minute of it.
Steve greeted us when we arrived, and after that, we had plenty of privacy and space to enjoy the property. The rafters going by around 1:00 were an added bonus and made the experience even more memorable.
I would absolutely stay here again—and I’m already hoping to make this an annual tradition! Next time, I’d love to bring friends so they can experience this special place too.

Our stay at Upriver Paradise on the McKenzie River was absolutely amazing. If you're looking for a peaceful, relaxing getaway, this is the perfect place. The property offers incredible privacy, making it easy to truly disconnect and enjoy the beauty of nature.
One of the highlights was the easy access to the McKenzie River. Whether we were sitting by the water, enjoying the sounds of the river, or exploring the riverbank, it made the whole experience feel special and serene.
The lot was comfortable, well-maintained, and had everything we needed for a stress-free vacation. We left feeling refreshed and already talking about coming back. Highly recommend Upriver Paradise to anyone looking for a quiet retreat with beautiful river access and a truly private setting.

Spectacular Stay Upriver

Once again; WOW! We were here last summer and stayed in the larger of the 2 VRBO rentals on the property. There were 7 of us in the house and we had so much space. The place had everything we needed, the kitchen was well stocked, the beds were comfortable and the place was clean.
NOW, onto this summer! We rented the camping spot for 2 weeks and brought our travel trailer from AZ. So glad the smaller VRBO cottage was available so that our friends from Eugene could spend the first 5 days with us. Upon arrival, Steve greeted us and made sure we were set up. We were able to position our rig aligned with the river! The view down to the roaring McKenzie was spectacular! Unfortunately, we had some trouble with our propane tanks and Steve helped us replace the tubes as they were leaking. He gave us a quick orientation to the spot; which included a clean water hose and an electrical extension! We had everything we needed. We eventually had 4 more rigs arrive from AZ and each had electrical and water. There is a honey bucket on site. Steve also arranged to have our rigs pumped by a sanitation service twice while we were there! This was inexpensive and well worth it. I could not ask for a more organized, helpful and kind human as our host. We enjoy getting to see Steve each year. Thank you again for a magical experience. Your place is so special, well decorated and so clean. Until we meet again.

Steve has done an outstanding job building this Hipcamp into something special. The host is available, but not omnipresent and always has a smile for you. The location is the best on the river and it is hard to find reason to leave it while camping there.

Upper River Paradise Private Retreat is everything the reviews say it is—and there's a reason it's in such high demand.
Steve is an exceptional host who has clearly invested an incredible amount of thought, care, and attention into every aspect of the property. From the layout and strategically placed sitting and viewing areas to the landscaping that beautifully complements the native surroundings, every detail has been considered.
What impressed us most is how natural it all feels. The planning and craftsmanship are evident, yet nothing feels forced or overdone. It's a rare place where thoughtful design blends seamlessly with the beauty of the environment.
The property is peaceful, beautiful, and incredibly relaxing. We knew before we left that this would become an annual stop for us.
As highly as one can recommend a place, we wholeheartedly recommend Upper River Paradise Private Retreat. If you have the opportunity to stay here, take it—you won't be disappointed.

Absolutely amazing private space. Large enough for a few RVs as a group site but I really appreciate that Steve keeps it private to the group.
Steve was a great host. Super accommodating, greeted us on arrival but gave us lots of privacy. The site itself is full featured with a great fire ring as well as multiple great places to sit and enjoy the river.
The area overall is underrated. We loved it and will definitely be back to enjoy Steve’s space again.

What an unforgettable weekend @upriverparadise. Steve is the kindest host, has some mad skills with all the amenities. From the tables to place our Blackstone, to washing camp dishes, he has dialed in this perfect slice of paradise. The Johnny was spotless, easy to get to and even had privacy. Little fairy lights sparkled in the evening and cozy sitting areas down on the riverbank made out stay magical. The beautiful rushing river drowned out any “traffic” noise and lulled us to sleep comfortably. Water, power easily accessible. Just a hours drive to Bend/Sisters with majestic views. Steve has thought of everything! Number 1 on our list of places we will return to.

What a wonderful private camp with a river view. Steve was so nice to show me around when I got there to let me know where everything was. Lots of special touches like garden art, rocks around the trees with plants, everything is kept clean. It's really beautiful. Looking forward to coming back soon!

Gorgeous setting. Steve, the host, has poured his heart and soul into the property. So many details everywhere. It was fun exploring. Situated on the river, breathtaking. Yes, there is the highway, but it didn't bother me at all (which is unusual). Well laid out camping plan that can fit 3 or 4 RVs easily. Already scheduled another trip back. Completely reset my soul

Beautiful: sound of the McKenzie River, crows, wild mushrooms, ferns, trees, smell of Fall in the air and the sun reaching through the trees. Everything you need is available a porta potty, fire wood and electric. I have a teardrop trailer. There’s a house available to rent on the property also- perfect for those who aren’t into camping. Definitely will return!

I drove ten hours to get to this amazing spot and I’m so glad that I did. It couldn’t have been more perfect. Steve has created an absolutely magical paradise along the river, and I can’t wait to go back.
There are numerous places to choose from where you can park and all of the views are spectacular. There are seating areas up above the river where you can make breakfast and relax or you can take a short walk (a few stairs) down to the river and enjoy numerous seating areas down there.
The sound of the river is so therapeutic. You just get lost in it. There’s a fire pit where you can relax and plenty of space to set up your stuff. It was raining while I was there and host Steve was fine with me setting up a pop-up over the fire pit to keep it dry and create a space outside to relax even in the rain.
Speaking of Steve, he is wonderful. The perfect host. He checked in and let me know he was available but also gave plenty of privacy. I needed to borrow a tarp and he helped immediately. He’s knowledgeable of the area and super easy going.
The area has so many things to see and do. I went to numerous waterfalls and on so many beautiful hikes. Sisters, Oregon is only an hour away and such a cute spot to go grab coffee and lunch. The coffee shop a mile down the road makes THE BEST lattes and has a cute little gift shop attached.
I really can’t express enough how perfect this spot is. Steve has put his whole heart into making a space for people to enjoy.
Steve’s property is immaculate and he was an amazing host. We had such a great time just hanging out at camp all day and watching the river. Our 1 year old son also loved it. So many thoughtful touches all across the property, we will definitely be back!

We love this Upriver spot!! It was our second time staying here. It's a perfect set up for groups with both RV's and tent campers. Lots of space, with a large fire pit and walking trails down to the river. Steve keeps it tidy with just the right amount of yard art and additional landscaping. He lives on site, so he's available if you need anything, but keeps to himself. The location is great for golfing, fishing, hiking--with easy access to the Willamette National Forest.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Upriver Paradise and it was truly a delightful experience for us and our friends who came along with their trailer too! Plenty of room for both of us to park our trailers with riverfront views. Beautiful, private spot in the forest along a picturesque river, a perfect escape into nature! The scenery is amazing and Steve has done a fantastic job putting his personal touches all around this retreat! We enjoyed the soothing sound of the flowing river, it's a great spot for relaxation. It’s also a great spot for exploring near by waterfalls, hot springs and lakes! The grounds are well-maintained, with the cleanest porta potty you will ever see. There are plenty of chairs, picnic tables and benches throughout the retreat as well. Overall, I highly recommend Upriver for anyone looking to connect with nature. We can't wait to return!
