Disappointing First Experience
This was my first experience with Hipcamp, and I booked day-of about three or four hours before arrival, so I understand the timing may not have been ideal.
That said, the arrival experience was confusing. I did not receive a confirmation message from the host before arriving, which I assumed would be fine because I expected the listing instructions to be self-explanatory. Unfortunately, once I got to the property, the directions did not clearly line up with what I was seeing on site. I drove around for about 20 minutes trying to figure out where to go, then messaged the host. After another 20–30 minutes without a response, I reached out to Hipcamp support. The host eventually confirmed that the unmarked spot I had found earlier was in fact the correct campsite. The site may work fine for someone who already knows where they’re going, but for a first-time guest, it felt under-marked and under-explained. I was able to find a water spigot, but there was no signage or clear direction pointing to it.
For the price point, I had hoped for a more curated and thoughtfully prepared experience. Clearer arrival instructions, a marked campsite, signage for the water spigot, and a quicker response window would make a big difference.
For future guests: when you come down the driveway, go right. You’ll pass a sign for Mohawk Loop, then go through a gate with a fallen tree on one side. If you reach the area with the broken cars, children’s toys, and scattered items, you’ve gone too far
