This no ordinary campground. Pause is an adventure that will feel like you are exploring your own private mountain nature reserve. Aramesh is 120 acres of Blue Ridge heaven with something for every wilderness adventure seeker: unmatched mountain views, lush old growth forests, babbling brooks, and miles of trails for all skill levels. The property starts at 3700 ft altitude, with summit at 4500 ft on the Glades mountain ridge. We have only a few campsites on the vast property, so the wind in the trees and birds will be all you hear. Come and stay with us and be renewed! IMPORTANT: 4WD or AWD is required to access our property. There is a sometimes steep and windy gravel road into Pause. Please make sure your vehicle has 4WD or AWD before you book. Campsites: They are 3/4-1/4 mile from the entrance. Some are accessible by 4WD. There may be some vigorous hiking involved, but the views are worth it. The pads are various sizes. Let us know what the needs of your party are and we can help you choose from the available spots. We also have several more remote “off-menu” sites for those seeking a backpacking adventure - ask for more information if your are interested. Hiking: There are several miles of trails on the property. They range from an easy slope to very strenuous. The entire property is fenced so you won't easily get lost. Your climbing efforts will be amply rewarded by stunning views, especially at sunset. Trail maps are available upon request. On-Site Amenities: we provide a clean porta-potty and running water that is spring fed. We ask that you follow "Leave-No-Trace" procedures during your stay. Off-Site Amenities: If you choose to explore the area : we are a 10 minute drive from I-40 Exit 24. Asheville is 45 minutes away; Waynesville is 25 minutes away. Presnell's Grocery (highly recommended, family-owned store that sells locally farmed products) is 10 minutes away from the property entrance. The Ingles supermarket in Canton is a 15 minute drive. You will find every kind of fast food in that area. There are also several excellent local dining options in Canton, Clyde, and Waynesville which we are happy to recommend to you by request.

Tai Chi Hill

Tent site · Sleeps 10
Tai Chi will take your breath away. This site requires a vigorous but doable 3/4 mile hike from the barn at the entrance. We therefore recommend this to more experienced hiker/campers, unless you wish employ our ATV transport service. The views of the Blue Ridge Mountains are astronomically stupendous. You will have a private 200 degree view of the mountains, at cloud level! From this site, you can take an easy hike into the woods on Icicle Path, or choose to take our most challenging hike directly to the summit on Chloe's Path, which rises 400 ft in 1/3 mile.

Lijah's Garden

Tent site · Sleeps 8
The closest to our entrance, Lijah's Garden allows you to park within a few steps of the campsite (4WD or AWD strongly recommended). You will be conveniently located close to the portapotty, outdoor shower (seasonal), and fresh drinking water. You will enjoy a large grassy knoll with partial long range views that can accommodate several tents (we have had a group with 10 tents on the Garden!), and you will be very close of two of our hiking trails, allowing access to the entire property and beautiful vistas. The site is partially sheltered from the elements by tall trees to the north.

Zimbo Hill

Tent site · Sleeps 2
Newly improved! Zimbo Hill is a private, grassy knoll just above Lijah's Ridge. Long range mountain views are spectacular from here. You will be able to drive up a 4WD vehicle to within 30 feet of the site. The site is higher than Lijah's and has recently been expanded to accommodate a 4 person tent. From Zimbo Hill, you have access to the nearby Hiddenwood Trail, which takes you through a deep forest experience under some of our most grand oak, hickory, and locust trees. A walk through this forest in the rain will leave you changed forever. The two structures seen in the distance are our main barn and horse shed at the entrance of the property.

Hiddenwood Camp

Tent site · Sleeps 6
Hiddenwood camp is Fara's favorite site on the property. Hiddenwood is for those adventurers that are experienced, fit backpackers and want blissful, total quiet, forest seclusion. Experiencing a rainstorm while camping in this spot is a spiritual experience! You will hike past Lijah's Ridge up a grassy incline into the forest, surrounded by massive oaks, poplars, and locusts. A steadily climbing path will lead you to this completely private, level camping spot that measures 10x24 feet. Hiddenwood is a vigorous 1 mile hike from the barn parking area!! Only reserve this site if your party are all experienced pack-in/pack-out backpackers, as the parking to this site is at the entrance and you will backpack uphill to the site.

Dreamy Walnut

100%
(4)
Tent site · Sleeps 7
Dream in a secluded but sunny knoll just steps from several hiking paths! Dreamy Walnut is only a bit farther from the entrance than Lijah's (about 1/4 mile). A 100 year old walnut gives shade, and evergreens to the rear protect from severe weather. You'll have gorgeous long range winter views, and in the fall you will be surrounded by stunning foliage. This is one of our favorites to beginning campers: you will have two level, dry tenting spots to set up on, ranging from 12-24 feet wide, and access is via a beautiful hike of about 1/4 mile from the entrance. Perfect for a family with kids to spread out on and play!! With a 4WD, you can deliver your gear to about 300ft to the site and then return to the parking area at the barn. You will be well away from other campers and enjoy a quiet stay, with lots of green space to spread out. A steel fire pit is provided.

Meditation Rock Camp

100%
(3)
Tent site · Sleeps 10
Meditation Rock Camp is about 1/2 mile from the parking area, with a steadily climbing, but more gradual rise than Hiddenwood Camp. This camp is a favorite for those who want shade, but also is convenient to the rest of our hiking paths as well as wide open mountain views close by. Once you settle in, you can continue on the path all the way up to the summit, most of the way protected by mature trees. There are several small streams along the path. Simply beautiful, serene, and restful! Carrying your gear in will be a welcome challenge to experienced campers. If you want the seclusion without the sweat, we offer ATV deliver of you and your gear for an additional fee.

Lijah’s Ridge

RV/tent site · Sleeps 8 · Vehicles under 15 ft
Lijah’s is no ordinary campsite. This site can be driven to with 4WD but has stunning mountain views that will take your breath away. Lijah’s is a perfect place for your rooftop tent or tear drop camper, and we’ve had large groups with several tents camp here with room to spare. Originally the site of Lijah's log cabin, Lijah's Ridge is an entire, expansive grassy ridge you will have to yourself, relaxing in the shade of a 150 year old Black Walnut tree. The sunsets are glorious from Lijah’s Ridge, as are the night skies. The porta potty is just a short walk away. If you don’t have 4WD, you can still get to within 50 ft of the site by car. Camper vans, small travel trailers (e.g. tear drop campers), and Rooftop Tents are welcome, though 4WD is REQUIRED for these.

Looking for an adventure? Try an Ultra-Modern, Unique Taxa Cricket parked at 4200 ft on a grassy knoll surrounded by 160 acres of your own private mountain park! For those not familiar, the Taxa Cricket is designed by a NASA engineer, and features aluminum and fiberglass open construction suggestive of the International Space Station. This one lives mid-way to the summit of the Pause || Eco-Retreat, under the quiet shade of a giant mother Oak. You will be enjoy the breathtaking views, but you are somewhat protected from the elements by the hillside behind the site. For those that want an unforgettable mountaintop camping experience, but may not want to feel exposed to wildlife or deal with the hassle of tent camping, the Taxa Cricket fits the bill. More secure and weather-tight than any tent, the Cricket has a prep sink with running water. All windows open and have screens and shades. 7 ft of headroom give it an open, spacious feel. A small propane camp stove is provided. A trunk-style fridge can keep your vittles cold. Comfortably sleeps two adults, and has a bunk bed that can accommodate a child or small adult up to 100 lbs. From the Cricket, you can take a gentle hike through the forest on Icy Waterfall path, or a very rigorous 1/2 mile climb on Chloe Trail to the 4500 ft summit at Goat Rock, where private 270 degree views of the Blue Ridge range await. Though the site has a blissfully remote feel, you are 12 minutes from grocery shopping, and 20 minutes from Waynesville. Keep in mind that if you will still have to hike up to the Cricket, and get your vittles/supplies/sleeping bags up there. We offer ATV transport for $50 round trip per person if you want to skip the hike. Note: if you want hot water and AC 110v power, we can place the Cricket under the awning of our barn - still a beautiful location, facing a giant hickory tree and a stream.
