The coordinates provided by hipcamp did not send me to the location of the campsite, so I was not able to even find the site.
This is a super convenient campsite near Lake Junaluska and only a 1/2 to Asheville, and only a couple minute drive to Ingles, gas, and some fast food places. Perfect place to park yourself while you're out visiting the area, and profits go to a great cause. Yes, you're by traffic and you will see a giant billboard, so if you're looking for a nature "out in the wild" camping experience, this isn't it. But, if you're exploring the region, or even testing out your car camping set up or or setting up your tent for the first time, this is the perfect place to start. I felt very safe. Porta potty was well stocked and it wasn't a far walk (no smell). During the time I was there, the campsite was pretty quiet (aside from traffic). Checkout time was early for me, and the host was flexible. The grounds were well kept, firewood was available, as was a bucket. Site 4 doesn't have electric close by, you'll need to share with site 3 and it's a distance. Since the sites are down a hill, I imagine it would get pretty wet if there's a lot of rain, so prepare for that if tent camping. I stayed here passing through for work and it was just what I needed. Just wish I had more time to visit the animals! The campground was easy to access by car and that was a plus for me. I was able to use Verizon for calls and messages.
These misfit mountain campsites are at a great location not too far from Asheville one way (1/2 hr) and a lake another way and just a short 5 minute drive to a supermarket and a couple of restaurants. Excellent location if you're visiting the area. It was easy to find even at night. Ignore the road closed signs because you'll turn a few hundred ft before the road closes. They were very flexible with schedule and coming in late was fine. I'm used to sleeping at rest stops and truck stops so the traffic didn't bother me. Campsite was very quiet I just needed it for a night but I noticed there was firewood already for guests and a nice gathering area and the porta potty was stocked and in great shape for a campsite porta potty! The shower didn't work when I was there but the host offered alternatives. I've stayed here twice and I'll probably stay here again. Campsite 5 is closest to the porta potty and entrance. Campsite 4 is between campsite 3 and 5 and probably has the least privacy but a smaller midsize travel trailer would fit . For car/tent camping to rest it was just fine. I've stayed here a few times and I plan to stay again! Convenient place to stop if you're passing through! The creek is by the animals.

We were right by the highway and unbothered by the noise. Wish it was more clear on the site which campsites are where on the property, where the showers are, and Creek access. Some might say desperate, sure, but it's still a nice peaceful area to set up camp for the night if you're passing through.

Sweet, niche little place.
The animals were the star of the show.
Campground is great the owner is very pleasant and accommodating always!
This place is right under the freeway with loud traffic 24/7 ( yes at night too…) and two brightly lit billboards on either side. Although the camp spots are cute we could not hear the creek we were camped next to as described in the profile because the of the traffic noises overhead. The worst part was the portapotties , both were full, filthy and disgusting couldn’t even go in there. We paid $27 too many for this so called “camping” which felt more like a barely glorified sleeping under a fwy overpass. Can’t say the presence of many chickens and pigs made us feel better…. probably the worst Hipcamp we have ever been in, we got the impression that like us whomever camped there was desperate. Not much in the way of cheap camping or public campgrounds in this area.

Convenient location. Free firewood. Well maintained area
Clean and well maintained. Delighted to feed the many pigs chickens on the farm. Also we spent some time in the cat rescue trailer feeding and playing. Our 3 year old enjoyed splashing in the creek for hours. Greeted by the friendly grounds keeper. 10/10 would recommend.

This was a lovely place for us to stay while driving through on a long drive! It has a beautiful green field and creek that make it a serene place, though be prepared for the highway lights from cars and early morning roosters.

This is a wonderful place with very friendly workers and host. Very accommodating and willing to help, and the farm fresh eggs are delicious!

I would recommend this highly to anyone looking to rest and support a great cause.
My response was delayed because I honestly didn’t want to post a review out of anger. Without going into detail I’ll share the facts.
GOOD - property is well maintained.
BAD - they are using two platforms to book their sites. The platforms do not coordinate bookings.
UGLY - Hipcamp confirmation did not get priority over the other.
I made it work for my situation but make sure you have a confirmation that’s not automated before you book with Hipcamp.

The campsite was perfect! There was a lovely creek that ran right beside our site. There was also a nice table and fire pit for dinner and campfires. The farm animals especially the adorable pigs made this visit extra special. I loved how this place felt so inclusive to all humans and animals!
The grounds were lovely and there was a neat little group area with a couple of games for kids there. As for the camping itself I would say it was a step up from dry camping as our site had electric, was fairly level and open. The toilets are porta potties and the outdoor shower is back near the bus.
The campground is beside I40 however being down in the holler the crickets made more noise than the traffic. Overall a great place to camp. Our only negative was the fire pit was full of garbage which we had to clean out before making a fire. The hosts did provide firewood which was awesome.
I would definitely recommend staying here.

My review is a bit mixed, but I think it depends on what someone is looking for whether it is good, neutral, or not so good. I was passing thru after backpacking in the park.
Good - its for a good cause, near the park and easily accessible, Tera was helpful and responsive, and the land is described well. The shower was a treat after a few days in the park. It's near some of the rescue animals which was cool to see, chickens and pigs and maybe more. There was plenty of firewood for a nice fire. The grounds were recently mowed and clean. The price was great.
Neutral - the road noise didn't bother me but was noticeable. It sort of droned on and wasn't an issue though I didn't spend much time hanging around outside. the layout - it's basically a big field with a road going around it and spots spread out. there's little to separate you from anyone else (like trees or buildings etc you might find at other campgrounds.) But at the same time there is good visibility so if someone were worried about safety that might be a benefit. From my site I could see people coming and going to the porta potty and shower. They do have some nice things set up in shared space.
Not so good - the hipcamp map of camp locations doesn't match actual locations. I think I would have picked a different space away from others a bit. I sleep in my SUV so a little extra space is nice.
Wasn't the best fit for me but for the price, for a good cause, seeing the animals no complaints

Easy, peaceful, next to an awesome little creek. I did not love that power lines ran over it, or the car/truck noise from the highway, but no biggie for a quick overnight trip while on the way somewhere else. A good, safe, chill place to stay for a rest spot.
Do not stay here. We tried to book a day-of stay under the impression it was an instant book. Tera did not reply to us until 9pm that night, confirming our stay. At that point since we hadn’t heard back we found another spot and we were out of service. I reached out the morning after explaining the difficulty we had and she would not refund the trip. Horrible customer service. I would not recommend staying at this property.

Tera was very helpful and was very quick to respond and help me out when there was an error with the app’s confirmation process. She was very quick to alert me and help make sure I had a place stay! Easy to find and a clean well kept area! Would definitely recommend!

This location was convenient to I40 for a quick overnight stop. We were able to pitch our tent, enjoy a fire and rest before saying hello to the animals in the morning. There was noise from the nearby road but I used ear plugs and didn’t have any problems sleeping.
We truly enjoyed staying on Tera’s land! This was our first camping trip together and my first time camping ever! With that being said, this was the perfect place. The site was easy to locate and it was a super peaceful stay!! Thanks for a great experience!! ☺️ 1000/10 would recommend!

Site 2 - Camp at an Animal Rescue!
We spent almost a week camping by the lovely creek that runs through the Misfit Mountain property. The sanctuary is a young work in progress, but hanging out with the resident pigs, chickens, and rescue dogs was so much fun. The sites were clean and level enough to make setup quick, and there was plenty of room for dog walking and family fun.
I’ve always looked for the good in the bad or different and in this case it has nothing to do with facilities. I’ve read all the comments and my take away is this - these people are absorbing the negative effects of others down fall. They have a wonderful heart devoted to helping animals that others can’t/won’t. I’ve stayed at a place that was on the northern side of a mtn (NOT this place) and although I like the sun, I adjusted and found the good. So, remember when you’re commenting to alway find the “Color in the Grey” Cody Jinks. NOONE is perfect. If you are, please go to Washington - our country (USA) needs help. ☮️
We enjoyed our stay at Misfit Mountain! It’s a nice base camp for a small camper or tent. Perfect for an overnight stop or a place to set up camp and go explore the surrounding area. We didn’t spend a lot of time at camp during the day, but it was nice to have electricity, cell service, a fire pit, wood, and a toilet when we did. This is a great spot if that’s how you like to camp!
Super sweet spot with awesome people and cool little animals.
Only cons : Near highway, so it's noisy but it wasnt too much of a deal for me.
Would 100% recommend this place !
Rented the site for 4 nights so it is definitely worth it !
