We had a wonderful stay at this Hipcamp. The 10-acre property is primarily open field, which gives you plenty of options for pitching a tent or parking your rig with room to breathe.
The “Dood” in the name refers to doodles (I missed that at first!), and they were friendly, well-behaved, and have their own large fenced area. They only barked briefly in greeting, at mealtime, or when alerting the host.
The newer additions to the ranch—chickens and turkeys—were a fun bonus, and we especially loved the fresh eggs. The miniature goats were an absolute delight and added to the charm of the stay.
This is a great place to stop over while traveling, especially if you’d like to explore the surrounding area and nearby springs. It felt comfortable, peaceful, and welcoming.
Host Sandi was knowledgeable and kind. Coming from a healthcare background, she clearly understands caring about people and making sure guests have a good experience. She was also very interesting to talk with if you enjoy visiting with your hosts. Her son, who co-owns the property, was equally friendly—he showed us the farm animals, helped get us comfortably set up, and made sure we were hooked to power.
Overall, a warm, enjoyable stay with genuine hosts and a memorable farm atmosphere.

We enjoyed our stay here. The directions are easy to follow, there's plenty of space to camp, and our kids had a lot of room to play. We kept one dog on a lead, while the other was allowed to free roam so long as he staying nearby.
We were able to contact the owner for a few questions on where exactly we were allowed to camp (P.S. to future campers: we were told we could camp anywhere the grass is cut down on the left side of the property) The owner's son was super nice and greeted us. Another lady who helps around the property was also nice and welcoming.
Expect to hear the donkey next door, dogs barking, and occasional gun shots in the distance. None of these things bother us, but may be offputting for someone looking for a more quiet, secluded getaway.

Loved my stay at the Dood Ranch! I came during New Years and was invited to a wonderful bonfire and enjoyed a meaningful conversation with Sandi the host. She even offered me a traditional New Years Day dish (peas and honey cornbread) the next day. Which was delicious. I felt safe and sound at the Dood Ranch and recommend it for any traveler who needs a nice place to stay. Very pet friendly so bring your pups!

This was a good place to stay for the night for a trip to Gainesville. It was far enough away from everything to be peaceful, but still was close enough to Lake City and I-75. I would stay again.

Spacious and welcoming, Sandi’s land is a sanctuary, with butterflies, birds, sweet nature smells, quiet, and since there isn’t street lighting to distract, clear nights mean a blanket of stars! The fire pit is a plus. And the sites are far enough from her space for adequate privacy. Sandi dogs weren’t a nuisance, (they’re fenced off or in her home), but neighboring ranches pups barking could be distracting if you sleep light. Thanks again.

The spot, on its face, and the people there were great. Only complaint was the barking dogs and stray cat that tried to climb in my camper. The dogs were taken in at dusk and weren't a bother during sleeping time. The night sky, sunrise, and sunset were stunning. Great place to stay for the price if you don't mind my minimal bellyaching.

This is a great RV spot, water and electrical hookups and a large open space.
However, I wouldn’t recommend it for tent campers. We had to relocate our tent multiple times due to the lack of privacy. After finally settling in a new spot, we were asked to move again within 5 minutes because of a neighbor complaint(???) No matter what space you choose, you are always 25-150 feet away with a crystal clear view of other campers and RVs, and you can clearly hear most conversations, zippers, music, etc. Additionally, there’s barely any privacy in the woods to use the bathroom, every time I ventured into the wooded area to finally pee, someone—either the host or a neighbor—would strike up a conversation.
On top of that, the constant noise from the nearby highway and the 10-20 barking dogs on-site made the experience less than peaceful.

Very nice primitive site, secluded, and the site has a huge hard wood picnic table. Includes everything that you would expect for the price. Fire wood was also provided as well as a very clean compost toilet. Would definitely go back.

Sandi's place was a great location close to the springs and close to I-75 but very quiet and secluded. Sandi and her daughter in law (Ashley) were great hosts, very welcoming and responsive.

Overall was a wonderful experience. Proximity to the famed root beer falls (or falling creek falls) and lots of space for camping - just be careful of fire ants here!

My friends and I were visiting for the annual Florida Folks Festival, however, to our dismay, there were no campsites available at any of the near by camping sites. Looking back I couldn't be more happy these places were booked solid! Tent camping at Sandi's was a fantastic experience!!! I will break it down into _ categories: Host, Location, Campsite Options
The Host for this site, Sandi, is not only incredibly friendly and helpful but also inspirational! She responds quickly to any questions we had and was genuinely interested in ensuring we had a wonderful time. While my friends slept in, I would talk with her and she left me eager to experience all life has to offer!
Sandi's property is a short 20 minute drive from Stephen Foster State Park, perfect for enjoying their festival. The site is located in Lake City which is a rural town, if you seek to camp in this or surrounding towns expect various farm animal sounds in the morning. To myself and my friends this did not bother us at all. This area is dark at night and the stars are magnificent!
For the campsite, Sandi has many options for whether you enjoy hammock or tent camping. I camped in the grassy field while my friends camped under the trees. If camping under the trees, bring a thicker tent footprint as there are a few thorned plants (a picnic blanket will do the trick). However, the field is wonderfully grassy! Sandi has big plans for this site and plans to constantly improve it. We cannot wait to visit again!
