Thousands of years ago, this area was known as the freshwater district, vital for its proximity to both the river and the ocean. It was originally cared for by the Timucua and the coastal Surruque tribes, who fished these waters and gathered along the nearby shell mounds. Later, in the 1700s and 1800s, the Seminole nation took care of this land. This specific pocket of Volusia County was also home to the Mascogos (Black Seminoles)—free African Americans and Native Americans who formed resilient communities, farmed the region, and fought fiercely to protect their freedom before migrating further south and west. 🗺️ Key Highlights of the Area 🚣‍♂️ Waterways & Paddling - (The Indian River Lagoon), 🚲 Hiking, Biking, & Trail Riding - East Coast Regional Rail Trail: Minutes from the property 🏖️ World-Class Surf & Sand - New Smyrna Beach, Canaveral National Seashore (Apollo Beach), Ponce Inlet 🚀 Rockets, Racing, & Local Flavor - Rocket launch viewing from the riverbank or the property, Daytona Int'l Speedway 🍔 Local Eats & Cold Drinks - The Tipsy Unicorn, New Smyrna Beach Brewing Company, Bricks European Cafe, The Corkscrew Bar & Grille, Chase's on the Beach Airboat Rides - 30 minutes Disney World - 65 minutes Natural Springs - Less than a hour (Blue Springs, De León Springs State Park, Kelly Park - Rock Springs, Wekiwa Springs State Park and more) It is my honor to share this sanctuary with you as well as the deep history and the story the land tells as you experience it.
