Makoshika State Park

Makoshika is BIG. What can you expect from a park full of T-Rex and Triceratops bones? Fossil remains are the biggest attraction here, but the beautiful badland formations that have been whittled down to their sedimentary skeletons are enough to distract any paleontologist. In fact, the name Makoshika comes from the Lakota word for “bad land” or “bad spirit.” Wander through the badlands in utter amazement, or take a scenic drive through the landscape. Covered in sparse pine and juniper trees, you’d never know these majestic mountain ranges hide dinosaur fossils. It’s a perfect destination for budding archaeologists and seasoned hunters alike. With a museum, amphitheater, mountain biking and hiking, there’s no shortage of things to learn or places to stretch your legs. There’s even a Disc Golf course (one of the hardest in the U.S.)!
