We're a non profit community garden in the Old Algiers neighborhood of New Orleans on the West Bank of the Mississippi River, a 15 minute drive or ferry ride to the French Quarter. We use the money from these bookings to fund the community food access work that we do. While you're here you can enjoy our peaceful and spacious garden property, and we encourage you to get to know some of the fantastic neighbors who use our community fridge and herb garden.
Take the scenic Mississippi River Levee Path 1 mile to get to the Algiers Ferry dock which departs every 30 minutes and drops you off at the foot of Canal Street in the heart of New Orleans. If you have a car you can cross the bridge and get to most of the city in 15 minutes. You can also explore Algiers Point with its many restaurants, bars, local art and historic buildings. The levee trail is a block away, where you can jog, bike, or just watch the boats go by.
Property amenities include an open air bathroom and shower, communal screened porch with seating area, propane grill and various pots/pans, cooking gear and tableware, fridge, picnic tables and a small fire pit. The fenced-in site is in a well lived in, low-income, busy neighborhood of New Iberia. The hosts live in the small brick cottage in front. The property is surrounded by gardens for guests to enjoy. There is a 15AMP regular outlet to plug into and a nearby water hose for travelers to use. We used to have a white German sheperd "Peanut" but he passed away in 2025. So that's the dog seen in some pics. There is a little dog "Lithium" (terrier mix) that stays on the property and will be out sometimes but generally stays inside the camper belonging to our groundskeeper Jenn.

Nice quiet out of the way campsite with several spots to choose from. Sit and watch the lazy water drift by on the bayou as you listen to the frogs from the backwater creek. This was a peaceful stop for us and the host was accommodating, helpful, and informative. There is a shower house and laundry as well as WiFi, and full hook ups. We highly recommend this site. Easily fit a 35 foot rig. It was surprisingly easy to get to.

Simple, straight forward place to camp right on the ocean front. Friendly folks at the local houses/campsites. Be warned, it’s far removed from any real kind of civilization - but THAT is exactly what I look for. Great communication from the host. I would definitely stay again.

My first Hipcamp overnight stay. So take that in consideration. Great hideaway right on the bayou. Definitely don’t want to miss this hidden gem off I-20.
Communications from booking to checkout was great, Phildon’s reply to any question I had was answered promptly. Great leveled land and hookups conveniently to rear of camper. Thank you again.

It’s so peaceful! We had a rush stay, got there right at dusk. Yet…it was oh so beautiful. The morning fog off the pond was spectacular. The fire pits are great. The horses! I am really looking forward to going back someday! My wife loved it too! Her first time tent camping ever!

Ahhh this place is so special and unique !! My first time staying in an animal sanctuary. You can tell the animals are incredibly happy there and treated well as everyone of them is friendly, including the emus which is not something I expected! The property is beautiful and Alyssa is incredibly sweet and welcoming. The stars of the show are definitely the animals, the cutest tiniest little piglet I ever seen called snoot, two beautiful horses, big fluffy dogs that’s love people, a pack of goats that are so funny to watch. There are also ducks, roosters, pigs.
This is a must go to for any animal

Jan's camping land was perfectly peaceful and exactly what anybody looking for a stop over for the night would want. It's far enough from the university to feel the tranquility of nature, she offers an incredible outdoor shower and a great fire pit to lounge by or cook your dinner over. The bathroom situation was great, and we could not recommend this land more!

This was one of the most beautiful farms I have ever been at. It was so magical! Our little spot was right next to the pond and the bathrooms were an easy walk. I absolutely loved getting to see all the animals. And the dogs were so sweet!

Where to go
Along the Gulf
Head along Louisiana’s coast, where you’ll find recreation areas, wildlife refuges, and, of course, beach campgrounds galore. Grand Isle State Park sits as close to the water as you can get, where RV sites are a fisherman’s paradise.
Follow the Mississippi
If you prefer the river to the gulf, stop in St. Francisville to get a taste of Louisiana’s local charm. The Mississippi River winds through Eastern Louisiana, and you can ride horses, hike, and fish throughout Tunica Hills. The peaceful blufflands house unique plants and animals, so you can birdwatch while cabin or tent camping.
Toward the Texas Border
Everything’s bigger in Texas—but not the Toledo Bend Reservoir, which hugs the border. On the Louisiana side, check out the RV campsite and cabin rentals at South or North Toledo Bend State Park. The area harbors some of the best Louisiana campgrounds, with picnic tables and group campsites. Cypress Bend State Park likewise overlooks the reservoir and offers unparalleled views.
Central Louisiana
You don’t have to head toward the state’s edge to appreciate Louisiana's beauty. Chicot State Park hovers in the state’s central south, with more than 6,000 acres of rolling hills. Within the park, you’ll find trails, cabins, and the Louisiana State Arboretum. There’s no better place to learn about—and see—the state's varied landscape.
When to go
Hurricane season runs between June and November. Save yourself the stress of unpredictable weather, and head to Louisiana between fall and spring. Remember that Mardi Gras celebrations pick up in February, so if you want a peaceful and secluded camping trip, keep the festivities—and their crowds—in mind. Luckily, enough campsites pop up beyond Louisiana’s major cities. You can easily find the perfect campground year-round.
