We're a non profit community garden in the Old Algiers neighborhood of New Orleans on the West Bank of the Mississippi River, a 15 minute drive or ferry ride to the French Quarter. We use the money from these bookings to fund the community food access work that we do. While you're here you can enjoy our peaceful and spacious garden property, and we encourage you to get to know some of the fantastic neighbors who use our community fridge and herb garden. Take the scenic Mississippi River Levee Path 1 mile to get to the Algiers Ferry dock which departs every 30 minutes and drops you off at the foot of Canal Street in the heart of New Orleans. If you have a car you can cross the bridge and get to most of the city in 15 minutes. You can also explore Algiers Point with its many restaurants, bars, local art and historic buildings. The levee trail is a block away, where you can jog, bike, or just watch the boats go by. Property amenities include an open air bathroom and shower, communal screened porch with seating area, propane grill and various pots/pans, cooking gear and tableware, fridge, picnic tables and a small fire pit. There is an herb garden out front and there may be fruits and vegetables available for you, fresh from the garden, depending on the time of year.

The water level in the Basin rose by several feet, permanently flooding many areas, and people who had made their homes there eventually moved to communities on the dry, western side of the levee--Henderson, Catahoula, Bayou Benoit and beyond--leaving no trace of the old settlements behind. Only one community remained. Perched on a ridge along the banks of the Atchafalaya River, Butte La rose is the only community in St. Martin Parish that is still located between the Basin levees. No other place can claim to be the heart of Atchafalaya as credibly as Butte La Rose can. The community is nestled against one of the more winding meanderings of the Atchafalaya River, and residents remain closely tied to the river and other nearby waterways--fishing, crawfishing, frogging and hunting, enjoying bayou-side crawfish boils and pleasure boating. So many waterways surround Butte La Rose--Butte La Rose Canal, Henderson Lake, Lake Begneaux, Lake Pelba--it's as close to an island as you can get without actually being an island. A wonderful spot to crash and visit the various attractions nearby. The Tabasco Factory etc was great! Traffic on the neighborhood road is not bad and the sound of the train, two time during the night was not very loud. The Farm and grounds keeper, Jen is delightful and very helpful. She does the whole farm to Market with the produce. Wish we lived closer so we could visit this quaint and great hide out. Jim and Sheila

Weekend Trip to Iberia Market Garden

We loved staying at Phanats garden, it is a beautiful respite from a largely industrial area. It was so lovely to check out the gardens and so many plants and beautiful brick buildings. I would say this hipcamp makes more sense if u have an rv or trailer, tent camping was okay but it did rain and the grounds flooded (which Phanat warned us would happen so no fault to them). We felt very safe and would stay again albiet maybe during a dryer season.

Wow this wonderful place is not only charming but has so much to do around it. Ginny & Scotty are the most wonderful hosts. Ginny has all information for you when you arrive about restaurants, local pubs, 100 yr old store that was a gem. They have a very level spot with a picnic table, Tiki torches and a very nice porch to sit and enjoy getting to know each other. We cant wait to come back.

The RV space was premo for my vehicle & gear; there was ample space to pitch a tent and beat the Nola heat. Mark communicated transparently about the space and made accessibility easy. The semi-outdoor bathroom/shower was a nice touch - plenty of hot water with the on demand water heater. Mark & co. were super friendly and gave a lot of insights into the little fabulous cultural tidbits that Nola is full of. Sunday brunch was so much fun! Pelican gardens are such a beautiful forest of food and tropical plants 🌿 this was exactly the greenspace and vibe that I was seeking for camping, all while being a 20 minute walk to the Algiers ferry and close to the French Quarter & downtown. Riding the ferry daily and using the RTA Jazzy pass was a total breeze 🏖

Host Jen was quick to reply to my concerns. She offered a resolution that, though it would have cost me quite a bit more, would have helped me out with a detail I missed in the listing. When that resolution turned out to be unavailable at the last minute, Jen helpfully reminded me that it was my mistake in the first place and honored the original charge with no further inconvenience to the host. I wasn’t able to use the reservation or be refunded, however intend to book these accommodations again when my attention to detail improves! (Thanks Jen for the good advice!) Even as a self-described new host with a recently purchased and expensive property, she is very committed to justice and it’s always so refreshing to meet someone who keeps us on our toes! Awesome site! Very nice and easy access right off the road. We arrived late at night and were able to drive right in and hookup since the host had provided extension connections for all services. Very quiet location and very well maintained. Hosts were very kind and provided us with printed local information for the area as well as a small gift. Would definitely visit again the next time we are in the area!

We booked this place as we wanted to be close to New Orleans but not pay New Orleans prices! This place is a hidden GEM! It's no resort but has full hookups and is located in a small fishing "village" just 28 miles east of New Orleans. Bradley was a gracious and thoughtful host and offered to move us to a bigger and more private spot (site 12) once we arrived. Unfortunately, we did not have time to take advantage of his fishing charters as he also offers fishing excursions from his boats located just across the street! We will back back!

Absolutely the sweetest hosts we have ever encountered. We ended up with car trouble just before we hit the campsite and they were so kind and helpful. Upon arrival we recieved a brochure highlighting local history and attractions complete with good recommendations and sites to see, and even a welcome gift. We decided to stay an extra night. Hosts are friendly and kind, site it well kept and peaceful, and the setting couldn’t be more lovely.
