Sanctuary in the City
This space is a perfect reflection of its host- special in every way! Phanat is an amazing, intelligent example of “it starts with self”. His vision for The Gardens & New Iberia is impressive & a reflection of his belief in humanity. We love, love, loved our stay! Our dog Max fell in love with his host dog Peanut & so did we. We came as strangers & left as friends & inspired people. Many thanks 🙏
Regarding New Iberia: Recommendations sent us to eat breakfast at Victors Cafeteria where pictures on the wall introduced us to a series of fiction books written by a local author James Lee Burke who writes of a character Dave Robicheaux in New Iberia. We were so intrigued with the city we’re now deep into the books.

Solo Female Approved!
I felt very safe here as a solo female car camper. Although previous reviews mention the neighborhood being “rough” it is completely fenced in and locked. It is a low-income area but I never felt unsafe. There’s a bio toilet that works well. Wi-Fi only works when you are close to house, not from where you park your vehicle. But they have a little table you can work at. The shower was not working yet so be sure to check in with Phanat if you are hoping to use that while there. There is water from hose available and electric hook up. I’d stay here again. The price is right for a place to safely crash for a night or two. The gardens are incredible!

Fantastic Stay.
A lovely HipCamp stay! We came as long time Airbnb-ers and first time HipCampers. We enjoyed our stay with Phanat for all the reasons we love to Airbnb: Excellent and interesting host - Phanat was the best, sharing his work in the community, especially his work with community arts and gardening. He helped us settle and was very helpful about local information (where to eat, where to go to see the kinds of things we were interested in…). He was super responsive to any questions we had during our stay.
The site was level and easy to hook up our electric and water lines.
And, Peanut, Phanat’s white German Shepherd, was a gracious host for our entire visit. :)

Garden Parking & Off-grid Outhouse
The neighborhood is a little bit rough, but the site has a locked gate and Peanut does an excellent job with nighttime surveillance. There was just enough space to turn around our large rig. 15 amp power worked great.

Darling City Garden Oasis
The campsite was gorgeous! Phanat (& Peanut) we’re incredibly welcoming while doing good in their local community. The nearby street noise is no big deal in a camper/tv/car. Absolutely loved it

Garden Parking & Off-grid Outhouse
So convenient for visiting Avery island. Parked in a garden with a locked gate so I felt very secure. A super friendly dog greeted me and hung around the garden most of the time (but didn’t bark). Some traffic noise from the road but I slept.

We still haven’t stayed here owing to an unexpected evacuation for Hurricane Ida the weekend before we were set to camp here however Phanat has been extremely accommodating and communicative and we hope to use a “credit” in later Fall.

Change of plans, but still good
I wasn't able to make it to the location, but communication was good with the host and everything was positive.
