We use the money from these bookings to fund the community food access work that we do. While you're here you can enjoy our peaceful and spacious garden property, and we encourage you to get to know some of the fantastic neighbors who use our community fridge and herb garden. Take the scenic Mississippi River Levee Path 1 mile to get to the Algiers Ferry dock which departs every 30 minutes and drops you off at the foot of Canal Street in the heart of New Orleans. If you have a car you can cross the bridge and get to most of the city in 15 minutes. You can also explore Algiers Point with its many restaurants, bars, local art and historic buildings. The levee trail is a block away, where you can jog, bike, or just watch the boats go by. Welcome to Big Branch Apiary, a 50 acre honey and blueberry farm north of Lake Pontchartrain. We're bounded by the Big Branch Wildlife Reserve to the south and a Rails to Trails bike path on the north. We are 3 miles from Lacombe to the east, 4 miles from Mandeville to the west, about 3 miles from Fountainbleu State Park, and an hour from New Orleans. Most of the farm is a mix of hardwood forest and wetlands. Desert Bayou and East Branch Bayou meander across the property. The farm has deer, foxes, bobcats, owls, fireflies, otters, raccoons, turtles, and, well, about anything common to the wilds of the Gulf South. This includes a litany of snakes, mosquitoes, and deer flies in season. About 8 acres are used to raise poultry, bees and organically farmed blueberries. Overall, the land feels primordial and pristine. We are a designated Monarch Waystation and in the spring and fall see many migrating butterflies. We cultivate a lot of flowers so almost year round you can see butterflies in profusion. We are part of the USDAs Conservation Stewardship Program, concentrating on protecting and increasing habitat for animals and pollinators. Pets are welcome but please leash them. Campfires are allowed except on rare occasions. You can hunt for deadfalls in the woods on the farm, or we can provide firewood for a small fee. Our honey, fresh eggs, and homemade sourdough can be purchased as well. This is a rustic situation: think dry camping, outdoor (heated) shower, and outhouses. We have a tiny treehouse, an A-frame, a glamping tent, and several places to pitch a tent. The farm is pretty secure--someone is on-site most of the time, it's gated, and there are security cameras at access points. But it is a farm in a rural community--you may hear roosters crow, sheep bleat, dogs bark, and the sounds of owls, hawks, coyotes, and other native wildlife. The water level in the Basin rose by several feet, permanently flooding many areas, and people who had made their homes there eventually moved to communities on the dry, western side of the levee--Henderson, Catahoula, Bayou Benoit and beyond--leaving no trace of the old settlements behind. Only one community remained. Perched on a ridge along the banks of the Atchafalaya River, Butte La rose is the only community in St. Martin Parish that is still located between the Basin levees. No other place can claim to be the heart of Atchafalaya as credibly as Butte La Rose can. The community is nestled against one of the more winding meanderings of the Atchafalaya River, and residents remain closely tied to the river and other nearby waterways--fishing, crawfishing, frogging and hunting, enjoying bayou-side crawfish boils and pleasure boating. So many waterways surround Butte La Rose--Butte La Rose Canal, Henderson Lake, Lake Begneaux, Lake Pelba--it's as close to an island as you can get without actually being an island. We are only 3 miles from interstate 10 but we are a small remote camping village. Many hummingbirds visit here every year. They arrive in March and leave in Sept. We had a great time at Jan’s place! It was super clean, the shower was nice and hot, and we enjoyed a wonderful fire with the firewood provided. The area felt very safe, and I highly recommend staying here!

Mark has cultivated a true gem of a space in Algier's Point. I stayed at the tent site for two weeks. It was most days only a 10 minute drive across the bridge for work in the NOLA CBD. I was surrounded by a living garden and it was fantastic. Mark is a lovely human, and it's reflected in his intentional community space. There was also a hot shower and a kitchen I could use. I could not have stumbled upon a better place to be. Thank you, Mark. I'll be back.

I would most definitely recommend Damon's land for camping! It was peaceful and quiet but not too far from town. As a solo female camper, I felt safe. Having access to the RV (which could have been a little cleaner, but was not the worst public bathroom I've seen!) with a flush toilet, hot running water, and shower was a game changer for my trip ~ I had planned to split my 2 week vacation between camping and hostels, but decided to camp the whole time! I will camp on Damon's land again the next time I am in Louisiana!

Weekend Trip to Iberia Market Garden

We loved staying at Phanats garden, it is a beautiful respite from a largely industrial area. It was so lovely to check out the gardens and so many plants and beautiful brick buildings. I would say this hipcamp makes more sense if u have an rv or trailer, tent camping was okay but it did rain and the grounds flooded (which Phanat warned us would happen so no fault to them). We felt very safe and would stay again albiet maybe during a dryer season.

Wow this wonderful place is not only charming but has so much to do around it. Ginny & Scotty are the most wonderful hosts. Ginny has all information for you when you arrive about restaurants, local pubs, 100 yr old store that was a gem. They have a very level spot with a picnic table, Tiki torches and a very nice porch to sit and enjoy getting to know each other. We cant wait to come back.

Great spot! The garden is beautyfull & peaceful, especially for being so close to everything. The shower was better than a lot of houses I've stayed in, so yay for that. Definitely a great experience. My favorite was hearing the boat horns & a marching band practicing at the coast guard campus nearby. Love being right on the levee/river.... Thnx!

This was a beautiful location and great introduction to Louisiana terrain for a family who had never been :) Our stay got cut short due to some environmental influences (some heavy rain and brown recluses within the tent). Would have loved to stay if we prepped better and didn't have a young child with. Only complaint, is parking is described on site, I would say its better stated as on property, as this is not a drive up to your site and unload kind of experience. If we would have known, we would have packed much lighter. Regardless, a beautiful spot, accommodating host, and lots of wildlife to be heard at night!

I would definitely recommend this spot to others! It's peaceful & quiet. Beautiful area right on the river. Having access to the RV with hot running water, a shower & flush toilet was a game changer! I had planned to split my trip from Maine between car camping & staying at a hostel, but decided to stay on Damon's land for my whole vacation.

The RV space was premo for my vehicle & gear; there was ample space to pitch a tent and beat the Nola heat. Mark communicated transparently about the space and made accessibility easy. The semi-outdoor bathroom/shower was a nice touch - plenty of hot water with the on demand water heater. Mark & co. were super friendly and gave a lot of insights into the little fabulous cultural tidbits that Nola is full of. Sunday brunch was so much fun! Pelican gardens are such a beautiful forest of food and tropical plants 🌿 this was exactly the greenspace and vibe that I was seeking for camping, all while being a 20 minute walk to the Algiers ferry and close to the French Quarter & downtown. Riding the ferry daily and using the RTA Jazzy pass was a total breeze 🏖

Immaculate mowed lawn area perfect for a tent. Bucolic setting on a small farm. No picnic tables but I used my camping table and it was fine. I did see a fire ring. Bugs disappeared after sunset and temps dropped. Refreshing and relaxing overnight stay with wifi and a shower.

Mark's garden oasis in Algiers neighborhood was perfect for our 2 night stay in NOLA. Great spot for our 20' van, nice bathroom with shower! Super friendly folks, Mark and Antoine. Love the family feel, and close to ferry to get easily to tourist areas. Great value and our stay supports the non profit garden project! Love it!!
